Pronounced In Excess. Great band. Sad story, their front man/lead singer Michael Hutchence committed suicide. They have some great music. Suicide Blonde, Listen like thieves, Devil Inside. Oh yeah, they were from Australia.
@@redarmysoja Actually, he didn't commit suicide. It was an unfortunate accident that certainly appeared to be a suicide but I'll not put the details here.
@@lynw1623 They are not a total household name, at least not where I live (Germany) so I kind of know where Doug was coming from. Did not know about the crowd record! Fantastic band in any case.
Had a friend in school, who loved this band. He was always a little strange which was great because I was as well. Right before we started high school, he was diagnosed with cancer. Though he received treatment, he could never recover. By tenth grade he had lost an eye and all of his hair. He suffered greatly. He got picked on for wearing an eye patch by a football player at the school. We beat his ass and put him in the hospital for two weeks. We got in big trouble. But we were protecting our friend. He died later that year. He never even got his drivers license. But every time I hear INXS, I think of him. That’s been almost 30 years ago.I hope you are at peace and still jamming my old friend. Love you and miss you. RIP David.
Michael Hutchens got most of the attention as the super charismatic front man, but the whole band is just killer. Everyone seems to get their moment to shine, and they are so tight!
I was so in love with Michael Hutchense, and it gutted me when he died, but the group as a whole was just amazing! Great songs, inventive videos, sex appeal . . . Yeah, they had it all.🥰
Michael was a natural baritone, but he could still really hit those high notes so well, and make it look effortless. Very gifted, and underrated as a singer
Never tear us apart, I agree this song is amazing. Saw it performed live in Brisbane Australia. Kirk’s sax playing gave me shivers up my spine. So good. Their back catalogue is the playlist of my youth. 💕
Man, INXS was my music obsession in the late 80's, early 90s! Hutchence had SO much talent and charisma. I'm so glad to see you reacting to them. :D Try "The Stairs", "Devil Inside", "The One Thing", or "Never Tear Us Apart". Really anything by them would be awesome. ETA: adding "Need You Tonight/Mediate" to that list!
He did "Need You Tonight", but I'd love to see him do the longer version with "Mediate" on the end. (Speaking of, the video is inspired by "Subterranean Homesick Blues" by Bob Dylan. Is he an artist you can react to, Jamel, or has he gotten blocked? That's a great song and a cool video, which would be awesome to do opposite "Mediate" by INXS.)
One of the greatest bands ever!!! They literally have fused all genres within their discography: dance/rock/funk/jazz/reggae and more... so happy you discovered them. Keep listening...from a huge INXS fan🙌. We miss you Hutch.❤️🙏❤️
Say it like "In excess" . Definitely the funkiest band to come out of Australia. They had plenty of great songs. "One Thing" was their first hit in the US, though mostly on college stations. "Don't Change", "Original Sin" "Burn for You" "New Sensation" and "Need You Tonight" are all great songs. Thanks for listening and keeping great music alive! Peace from SF Also, if you want to listen to a killer Talking Heads song listen to "The Great Curve". The Stop Making Sense version would be good. The live energy is great on this one.
I was rude and jumped off another reactor’s channel as soon as I saw the notification. You are my absolute favorite person (besides fam!) in the world!! Please more INXS. You said it right!! I jump on these that I am afraid will be blocked within 15 minutes!!
I love this band! INXS (sounds like “in excess”)! Great band with mega hits like “Need You Tonight”, New Sensation “, “Suicide Blonde”, “Never Tear Us Apart”, “Original Sin”, and many more! Michael Hutchence was a very magnetic and sexy lead singer who left us way too soon (RIP)!!❤️❤️
Hey Jamel: INXS got your shoulders moving, brought you the funky beat, the cool video and the sax. I guess they gave you "What You Need"! Love your reaction to one of my favorite bands from the 80s.
Back in the day (when I liked to party) if the party started dragging, all I had to do was play some INXS, and people perked right up! I love this band!
'In Excess' is probably the best way to pronounce this. I've always thought of them as the Australian Rolling Stones. This song is really jamming and very original. Sad story about the singer....RIP.
I’m probably dating myself, but I remember the Casey Kasem Top 40 show every week, and he said they named themselves because someone told them to “name themselves ‘In Excess’ because there’s too many of you, and you’re too loud”. As a 10-year old, I chuckled.
Even though they were extremely popular in the 80’s. I think they are extremely underrated. Their music still enjoyable to me Many great tunes ahead buddy!
Pronounced ’in excess’. The original line up of INXS seen here are: Michael Hutchins - vocals (1960 - 1997) Andrew Farris - guitar, keyboard, vocals, composer Jon Farriss - drummer Tim Farris - guitar Garry Gary Beers - bass Kirk Pengilly - guitar, saxophone, vocals And not for nothing but "Dirty Vegas" with J.D. Fortune was a great song, too.
@onewrytr Dirty Vegas is a name of a group with a very popular and catchy song called "Days Go By". It won a Grammy I believe. Here's the link ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gLCduDJVksc.html JD Fortune has an incredible voice and personality. I feel bad for what happened to him. He went down the rabbit hole of drugs which was unfortunate. I'm not totally sure if the Farris brothers could have put the brakes on his spiral out of control. JD Fortune is making a comeback. What a great pick to feature. Michael Hutchence was the whole package. A true rock star if there ever was one. He had it all and yet like so many highly creative individuals he struggled with mental health and drug problems. Sadly we will never know what could have been. I lost a family member the same way. Deeply creative musician and artist, lovely and caring on the outside but haunted by their inner demons to a level we can't understand. Like shooting stars they are. Burn brightly and just disappear one day.
I'm with you "New Sensation" is my favorite INXS song. "What You Need" is a VERY close second. This song made me a fan. Should hear both Thieves and Kick, great albums and my favorites. Love almost every song on both!
@@markdavidson9100 Is that song a B-Side? I have it on my double KICK CD. There's no words to explain, the strongest love in vain?! Is that the one you're talking about? First song on the CD w/B-Sides. Love most of their songs anyway 💕
Meet Michael Hutchence, one of the most charismatic frontmen ever created. Fabulous voice and the performance level was always through the roof; best live band. Michael wrote almost all of the lyrics and most of the melodies...a truly poetic soul I've seen him on American Bandstand dancing better than the kids on the dance floor. Love Disappear, Suicide Blone, Never Tear Us Apart, New Sensation, Time,.....I was a HUGE fan in the 80s and still am.
Thank you for doing this.. not a bigger band in the world in the late 80's outside of G-N'R. One of the best front men ever, Michael Hutchence. R.I.P..
"I love dat saxophone like I love my organ and my cowbell!" lol I had to laugh at that line. Jamel, you have to be one of the funniest reactors I've watched.
I remember I was out tux hunting for my Senior Orom in 1986 when this song came on the radio! It was SO NEW and COOL & I loved listening to it every chance I got.
Hey Jamel! This is one of INXS (pronounced In Excess) best songs. Michael Hutchence was one of the best frontmen around during the heights of their musical career. Even Axl Rose, was super impressed by him. And that's when GnR were the biggest band in rock. Please consider these other INXS songs: "Kiss the Dirt" (my favorite), "New Sensation", "The One Thing", "I Send a Message", "Bitter Tears", "Devil Inside". They were a great band for quite a time from the 80's into the 90's. Add "Original Sin" and "Suicide Blonde" to that song pile. You can't go wrong with any of them. ✌🏽 out, Jamel.
I just now watched the film INXS: Never Tear Us Apart. Not the doc,but the movie staring Luke Arnold from Black Sails as Micheal. Made me cry. It shows why his personality changed so badly,as well as everything else. Laid it all out there. So well done. The ending is so beautiful. They clear up the horrible rumors about his death in 1997.
Excellent suggestion! Every single song on "The Swing" is a keeper - that whole run of albums from "Shabooh Shoobah" through to X they never really put a foot wrong - but you're right that's a highlight one should interest Jamel. It even has Daryl Hall (!!!) on backing vocals, so it ticks every one of Jamel's boxes :-)
Omg! INXS!!!! They had great songs! ‘Need You Tonight’, ‘Never Tear Us Apart’, ‘Original Sin’, ‘Don’t Change’, ‘Listen Like Thieves’, etc etc etc 🙏❤️❤️❤️
Oh, bringin me back to the 80’s. I have to throw a few out there now. Murray Head “One Night in Bangkok” Fine Young Cannibals “Good Thing” Real Life “Send Me An Angel”
Michael Hutchence was my hero. My life changed the day he died. November 22, 1997. INXS is still in my life everyday. Thank you Jamel. Everything they did was magical.
Loved INXS...they were always so cool and wrote amazingly catchy songs. Saw them live once on the KICK Tour and they were fantastic, of course. And the opening act was...Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers.
I saw them at the Beacon Theatre not long before Michael died. My favorite song of theirs is "Listen Like Thieves". As others have said "The Stairs" is right up your alley.
I remember in 1986, just before I went to PROM in my Senior Year of High School, this song hit the radio and was all over it! I could not get enough of listening to it! Loved INXS, but it is a shame the lead Singer killed himself in 1997 when they were still at the top of their game musically! Have missed that voice ever since! Loved that band from Australia!
Oh man, this brings me back to high school! I was lucky enough to see these boys live, what a great show! Rest in Power, Michael, we still have your music, and for that, nothing can tear us apart. ❤
I'm so glad I came up with this band came from. Even though I was a headbanger I loved this band! You should check out their whole catalogue so many more to listen too.
INXS was an incredible band from the 80s.. yes, the 80s. Great musicianship, lyrics, rhythms, presentation.. extremely talented in all rock-n-roll departments.
Pronounced like “in excess.” If their frontman, Michael Hutchence, had not died so young, they would still be international superstars. His showmanship was incredible.
So glad you have discovered one of the most amazing bands. Was lucky enough to see them live at least ten times over 15 years or so. Music is genre-less, and simply awesome. Enjoy and suggest you listen to all of their different styles and albums. Try "The Strangest Party" "I Send A Message," and a couple is slower classics "Never Tear Us Apart" or "By My Side"
Jamel... If you ever do “a run” on great Aussie bands or solo artists, may I recommend a group that EVERY Aussie here would know & fondly remember..... COLD CHISEL, with the truly charismatic lead singer named Jimmy Barnes. He was born in Scotland but raised here in Australia & whether it was with “The Chisels” or from his stellar solo career, “Barnesy” ALWAYS gave a million percent for the fans & still does to this very day 🇦🇺✊️😎👌🇦🇺
@@crucialtaunt5717 .... The Church are very well known here but we Aussies on this channel are ecstatic & over the moon that Jamel is featuring one of our all-time greats on his channel. I can’t speak for my fellow Aussies, but when we’re enjoying the great music that Jamel brings us, it doesn’t matter where you come from as we are “all one” in support of the big guy (Jamel) ✊️😉. As he so often says.... “OOOOH WEEEE!!! PEACE OUT!!!” ✌️😁✌️
