I still remember this was the last match when Aussie was defeated in a world cup game. After this match, they dominated throughout without even a single defeat in consecutive world cups 1999-2007. Personally feel Glenn McGrath was the most important factor behind their eternal success (due to his extraordinary line and length, he created immense pressure on every batsman right from the 1st over)

I still do remember this match watching it live with my family. Wt a game it was and specially moin khans innings and Battle between Steve waugh and shoaib akhtar.

After this match Australia defeated west indies Bangladesh and qualified as a 3rd team from the group carrying 0 points in super sixes where they had to win all their 3 matches against india zimbawe and south africa which they did and qualified to that legendary semi finals against south africa and in final defeated pakistan comprehensively. That is 7 consecutive wins. After winning this world cup they were able to assemble a squad which will be remembered for the years to come. They won all the matches of 2003 and 2007 world cup and finally lost a world cup game that also came against pakistan in 2011.

Pakistan captain and his goons fixed the final tight, yes, every chance that australia would have won the final fairly and squarely because they were resurgent, but Pakistan Waseem n Co threw the final, just to believe look at the horrendous balls , waseem n Saqlain bowled that day, it was even more obviousbthan Asif and Amirs no balls, and the batsmen , getting out was a comedy .... dont get me wrong as I said , with resurgent Australia they still could win the world cup no doubt about it, but the final would have been like this league game. Waseem might be a legend but his brother and bookies were mint together it was a God damned racket until Misbah came ......
