Or you know... From Blade Runner, behind Roy Batty. It says TDK. The entire building in Ion Fury is actually based on that final building rooftop where Roy speaks with Deckard.
@@dmitriyparfenov Nope, it isn't anything to do with Demolition Man. i think you've jus projected a bit of yer own history n film knowledge there... unless you can point me to a citation as fact. In Blade Runner, it's a TDK (Electronics manufacturer and used to own Take Two licensing) neon sign. MDK works nicely instead and references another old shoot em up. MDK from Demolition Man was never used as an acronym as its far more twisted to jus say "Murder Death Kill. Murder Death Kill. Murder Death Kill. Murder Death Kill. Murder Death Kill. Murder Death Kill. ....." :D
@@mossadon There is a game called MDK. Which the creators actually said stands for "Murder Death Kill". Civvie-11 did a review of said game. And mentions exactly that.
26:06 "They put dog meat in your burger" Isn't it a reference to Duke Burger from the Duke Nukem 3D Atomic Edition? In the Duke Burger, they literally had dogs in a cellar to make sandwitches from them.
The "strange machine" is the one used in the movie: "Barbarella"...it's used to give the "ultimate pleasure" to women by the villian, but Barbarella was too... "strong"... and made the thing break.
@@ikagura I mean, Barbarella was a softcore porn for mainstream cinema at a time when any direct mention of sex was frowned upon, sooo it had to be kinda strange ^^
33:33 is a reference to the 1995 Bethesda game "The Terminator: Future Shock" where you could shoot the moon and it would say "Ow". Hit it enough times and it'd fall out of the sky.
@MrNahual2099 AVGN is comedic act - by his own admission, he's no videogames expert and has a clear bias towards console gaming. In a nutshell, we're supposed to laugh, not to take it as a history lesson :P Bethesda made *several* Terminator FPS, not always with that engine. Skynet is my favorite.
33:25 The dead body in that secret is that of Dangerous Dave, from the game Dangerous Dave in the Haunted Mansion. Speaking of which, the hamster popping in the microwave in that same level is a reference to the game Haunted Mansion, not to be mistaken with the above. 33:35 That is a reference to Terminator: Future Shock, which also included shooting at the moon as an easter egg.
The AASHITTY graffiti at 33:25 is a reference to a particularity of the Doom engine: the very first wall texture won't display correctly. To work around this, id software put in a "dummy" texture named AASTINKY in Doom 1 and AASHITTY in Doom 2. Since the textures are loaded in in alphabetical order, these always get loaded first. doomwiki.org/wiki/AASTINKY
Oh yeah, I forgot that. Many references to maniac mansion, there is the kitchen with the chainsaw in the background, the microwave thing, etc. There are so many damn references and easter eggs in this game, that I am pretty sure there are more in this video missing. I already finished the main game and tried to find all secrets and still some I missed (I didn't clipped with cheats though) and others I didn't know where they were referening till I found out here.
The wooden horse is still a reference to the first Blade Runner. The detective who follows deckard through the entire film folds them as his hobby, and the last scene of the movie we see a folded paper horse outside of Deckards Apartment...
What, the E number for monosodium glutamate (MSG), a commonly used flavor enhancer? That's really all there is to that, and nothing more. Nothing. More.
@@Grease-Goblin It's been changed to MSG in the version I just played, I guess it was either unintentional, unauthorized, or they wanted to be more subtle about it.
22:30 The machine is a reference to the film Barbarella (1968). Machine looks like the Excessive Machine from this film, "D.D" stands for "Durand-Durand" who 'use' the machine on Barbarella, and "sonata for executioner and various young women'' is his quote when he's answering Barbarella's question about what is it. You can see it for example here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Eu7GgZbCLsY.html&t=
You missed the reference when you're entering that one plaza and the scientist dude says "For all your rage, you're still just a rat in a cage." Which is a reference to the song Bullet with Butterfly Wings by Smashing Pumpkins
One of the best games I played in the recent few years. The makers really understood why we loved old school shooters so much and put all the effort to make it special.
Umm no. The “little horse” does not refer to Blade Runner 2049. That “little horse” is a unicorn and is a central plot point of Blade Runner, not Blade Runner 2049
John Kimonster He's 100 percent correct. The unicorn refers to two scenes seen in the original Blade Runner movie. The scenes together indicate Deckard is a Replicant. One of the scenes (the dream sequence) is not included in the theatrical cut of Blade Runner. The horse in Blade Runner 2049 is not a unicorn.
This just came out yesterday and u already found all the easter eggs...All Hail to the King Kacpi! I also like that u put clips from where the references come from not alot of people do that, thanks!
5:20 Easter Egg: there is a Chinese text before you get to the You Wish Easter egg: 古老的中国秘密 This means: Ancient Chinese Secret. Lo Wang said that every time when the player have found a secret in Shadow Warrior
21:55 that strange machine and the sentence on it are both from the classic sci-fi movie Barbarella. By the way, I think it's in Cultural Divide map that there's a toilet shop ("Turd-O-Rama") where we can see a brown armchair with a built-in toilet. Could be a Simpsons easter egg.
Also, you don't need the noclip there (I wasn't even aware of the hidden message). If you watch over the monitor, it will give you the letters (which I didn't notice were notes - I'm not musically inclined)
Actually it could also be a referrence to that one gamer that wanted to make a chair with a built in everything eg. a toilet, speakers, refrigerator, etc. for gaming
just finished this game, man I had no idea of all the hidden stuff, I mean I found secret rooms with ammo/armor, but nothing like the stuff shown here. The apartment designed after the move "Hardware" was cool see (kind of an underrated movie), so was the "Portal" and "Ninja Turtles" rooms. They really packed a lot in here. Between swapping this and Halo Infinite over the past week, it's nice to go back to the FPS roots of how this genre used to play.
27:11 also the Elephant's Foot or Medusa makes an appearance, as this has been known, if you see this molten corium structure, you will die within hours.
"33:30" "Dave is not here man" can also be a reference to the games called Dave. The first of which was Romeros child before id existed and the latter had Dave looking like that dead dude with the red hat. Dave was one of the things that got Carmac and Romero acquainted.
1:44, it's an unicorn. It's still a reference to the first Blade Runner, Detective Gaff makes those unicorn Origami everytime he's investigating replicants because apparently, all replicants dream of unicorns.
33:36 BTW for anyone wondering, shooting the moon is a reference to an old _Bethesda_ game. Specifically, their OG Terminator games: Future Shock and Skynet. Super, super ahead of their time, and ambitious, being a full 3D shooter with _a lot_ of the DNA that went on to make the core of the Bethesda Fallout games as well as one of (if not THE) first game Todd Howard had a major role in directing. Of course, it's Bethesda, so it's an absolute bug fest nightmare to run, even (maybe especially) back in the day. Oh, and BTW, this was _before Quake._ Super impressive.
I also noticed posters for the "Video Loca Bitchin' Fast 3D 2000" video card which is an old games magazine joke about an overpowered video card. If you search RU-vid for it a guy actually built a non working physical version of the card as an April fools joke. Also noticed a poster for Big Bill Hell's Used Cars, also on RU-vid. Edit: Oh yeah, and in 3-1 Washington Institute, in front of the building is Love Fist's limo from GTA Vice City, recognizable by it's colours and the "LU FIST" license plate.
This isn’t just a couple of 80’s references, this is insane. Just the head from hardware would have been enough, let alone the whole fucking apartment. Then throw in chopping mall for good measure
Thanks for making this video, i can't imagine how much time and effort it took to record all places in the game and then to find all movie, tv series and game images that come along with them. Really awesome you did this all!!! Leon
33:36 the moon you shoot at says "CHA" which is a reference to The Tick cartoon, when Chairface tried to write his name on the moon (with a laser I think) but got stopped part of the way through
@@isekaiexpress9450 There is a character named Tania, but I have been wrong for many years that I played that game. Cameo is very frequent with phrases and reference. I will take your post valid. Thanks.
Also there are two more references to DOOM: One of the difficulty modes is called ''Ultra Viscera'' which is a direct reference to DOOM's ''Ultra-Violence'' On a crashed bus in one of the levels on the LED screen is written ''Sandy's City'' which is a reference to one of Bobby Prince's music tracks for DOOM, called ''Into Sandy's City''.
If you check the security monitor below the "big rigs" easter egg it actually shows enemies hiding in the quake 3 deathmatch map "blood run tourney" made by ztn
at 22:30 the Line "what is that thing?" and the wierd looking machine (actually named "the excessive machine") are both references to a 1968 movie called Barbarella staring Jane Fonda. The excessive machine is a torture device that the villain puts Barbarella in to kill her with pleasure. He stands at the end closest to you when you first see it, and plays it like a piano with Barbarella's head and shoulders visible sticking out the end with the wavy bits. Eventually the machine burns out having failed to kill her with pleasure.
The "little horse" isn't a reference to Blade Runner 2049, it's a Blade Runner reference, just the directors cut. Deckard has a dream about a unicorn and then later another Blade Runner makes an origami unicorn. This was all part of the implication that Deckard was a replicant, which I guess is why they cut it from the theatrical cut.
E621 next to the powerpuff girls reference might be a reference as well... to a furry porn site of all things... and the liquid under it is white... yeah...
One thing I can add is Slade in the house of Horrors area refers to the main guy in Take No Prisoners, a very edgy fps inspired top-down shooter of yore
Seems like that area in general was a action game/shooter easter egg room, he swooped by a name plate that looks to be for Kyle Katarn, the protagonist of the series of dark forces/Jedi knight star wars fps games. Edit: and fittingly the plate says retconned as he was declared none canon by Disney when they took over the Star Wars license.
At 5:20 you can see the Chinese text 古老的中国秘密 which literally is "ancient Chinese secret" which is a Shadow Warrior reference because Lo Wang always said that when you discovered a secret area.
The amount of references and detail in this game is awesome, to the point where my first playthrough was often a slow crawl, lol. Also in 1-1, the nightclub called Tech-Noir is a direct reference to the nightclub in the Terminator. EDIT: I also just realised, the secret tune you play on the piano is literally the "secret tune" sound!
"Sandy's city" on the bus in DC Meltdown was a good one. I also found the 69 cents poster to be amusing cus that exact poster is in Duke Nukem 3D The plush shark is really cute too haha.
The falling moon is a reference to an old pc game made by bethesda called Terminator: Future Shock where you could do the same thing and it would say the same lines as you were shooting it
You might have mentioned it and I just missed it, but the ma yuan painting 'walking on a mountain path in spring' is another reference (my favorite as a huge fan of song dynasty artwork)
There are also two simpson easter eggs, the toilet couch that homer made when he tryes to be an inventor and in the hospital stage there is a single bed that works with a button that goes up and down like homer playing with his hospital bed while says "bed goes up bed goes down"
The Voxel Test screen with the letter B is probably a reference to infamous newgrounds meme "B." a 1 frame flash movie submitted by StrawberryClock, who inspired the creation of the Clock Crew.
21:47 the congraturation is also a reference to the bad spelling from the Ghostbusters NES game. Although that one says Conglaturation!!! You have completed a great game. And prooved th justice of our culture. Now go and rest our heroes!
Near the end of the video, during the Caleb's Tomb easter egg, every plate is an Easter egg itself : Kyle Katarn refers to the character you can play as or see in the Jedi Knight series, Slade is the name of Deathstroke, a supervillain (or antihero) who appears in DC comics, and the Magnificent bastard one refers to a meme
26:06 it's a reference to "Duke Burger" level from Duke Nukem 3D. 33:22 and it's a reference to Dangerous Dave games series by Id Software. 34:22 and it's a reference to Star Wars.
