Allegedly the preconditioning to DC-charger starts 40 km (25 miles) before the charger and it will raise the battery minimum temperature to 21°C (so that battery can take 180 kW). Two more conditions: DC-charger as destination must be entered when battery is over 29% SOC, and the preconditioning will stop if the SOC drops to 23% or less. But these are only rumours - need to be tested in actual driving. Thanks for the great video!
thanks for the info Alen Brown definty want to test this out under 23% as that means you'll never get 10-80 charge speed if that is the case. Ah the 21c minimum temp looks to be the case I'll quote that in my next test. also be good to test to see if it kicks in when putting the destination when under 29%.
It works really well from the feedback coming from Germany. For once, great work by Hyundai ( even if it's an obvious miss that should have been there day one )
Great review, just like yourself I’ve owed a 40kw Nissan leaf and currently own a Hyundai Kona 64kw the extra range of my Kona has made such a big difference to running a EV . I found the battery effective of the Kona is fantastic very rarely drops below 4.5miles per kw and although I do like the Ionic 5 I think I’m keeping my kona with its 300mile range is far more useful than a faster charge time.
totally agree, we still have our Kona 64kW and that being the longer range car out of the 2 is hard to compute sometimes. The only benefit is the extra space and mod cons and the only up side to have less range is the extra charging speed (now) when at a 350kW charger. But yes it's hard to think of another car to replace our Kona, efficiency for the win :)
Another great video, James! So re range: after hyper-mileing rather obsessively over the summer, my Ioniq 5 premium 73kwh RWD got 325 miles on a full charge. I was pretty delighted with that tbh as it is a very spacious car and lots of that would have been transporting the family and baggage too. It will be interesting to see how much it falls during winter months.
Cool. I’ll see what I get. The family will want the heating on so no more hyper-mileing for me! I took a photo of the dashboard showing 325 miles. Tempted to frame it… 😂
Hi new subscriber here, great video.can you tell me what app (I'm assuming its an app ?) you use to show the battery SOC, battery temp etc you show in your video. they look useful, are they easy to set up ?
Hey its very easy to setup if you goto ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Gx4IXfeSxBQ.html from Alen Brown and info is in the description just follow that. You'll also need a OBD2 scanner that was used in the video: amzn.to/3DNC8H3 and a bit of software called car scanner which I used the android version play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ovz.carscanner&hl=en_GB&gl=US My setup is my own custom one but the one that you set up will look like the one in the video link, hope that helps.
It was interesting that the power figure jumped around so much. I would have assumed it would be near constant on the motorway. BTW the best range I have managed is 220 miles on my AWD Ultimate.
I’m impressed that you are getting 260 miles, I guess that’s the benefit of sitting in the inside lane watching all those cars overtake. I have the 77kw ultimate twin motor, so similar to your project 45. From full I can get about 228 miles. I really need to slow down to stretch those miles.
260 is combine and i mostly drive 65 on the motorway just slowed down while I was talking to myself in the car 😆 winter I'm close to 210-220 I'm very light footed with years of Nissan leaf training 😂
I saw a video that showed a 20% increase in range doing 65mph vs 75mph. In my ICE car, I got 14% more mileage doing 65mph vs my old standard of 73mph on the highway.. Yep, slower = better range no matter the vehicle.
You can see what the battery heater pulls in the energy screen and it is around 4 kW You should see a red coil over the battery icon in the lower-left corner of the screen
Great video. Very interesting to hear the differences between hda 2 and 1.5. We ordered ours back in November and got the order cancelled in june with the option to order the 2023 model with a discount. So very informative to hear about your experience with the two different hda. BTW what colour is your car?
Thanks for watching. My car is digital teal green pearl. In shade it's a blue grey and green when it's sunny and different shades depending how the light hits it.
@@LemonTeaLeaf the visual of cars driving alongside you does look great. But it’s certainly not going to be a game changer for me. My commute is fairly local and I won’t be doing many motorway miles, hence I have a 58 on order.
@@evmurph5877 If you have the tech pack with the HUD you'll find you'll notice the red cone pop up for the blind spot monitoring in your eye line more than any car squares on the HUD.
@@LemonTeaLeaf I’ve ordered a premium so no tech pack. I believe it still has the bling spot monitoring with the warning on the mirror though? I ordered Nov 21 and my car landed in the UK 26th Aug, so I am looking forward to finding all this out!
How much did it cost you for the software update for the battery? I’m taking my Ioniq 5 for a recall for it shifting into gear on its own and I’m thinking of mentioning this update to the service person at my dealership. I have the eco package so I should be able to receive this one. Thanks.
I got it free as i had warranty and other software update but was told it be the price would likely be 1h of work which is around £100-£120 but if they're getting paid ny Hyundai UK for recall /warrenty/dashboard updates then its worth asking for the BMS update and see if you can get it free or at a discount.
Hi - looks very interesting. I live in central Scotland too - and pretty sure I've passed you couple of times ;-). I have an Ioniq 5 Ultimate AWD with heat pump, and enquired with the local dealer on availability of the BMS update. They informed me that the s/w update would be a non-warranty update and chargeable at £108/hr (they couldn't say if it would take one or more hours!). I've emailed them (and Hyundai UK) to check if its is indeed policy to charge for software updates. I've owned BMW i3 and Jaguar I-Pace previously, and both dealers offered these sort of software updates as a courtesy. I thought I'd ask you though if the dealer you visited also charged you for the BMS update ?
I got my car software installed for free though I had warranty work and other updates that was part of the dashboard that need applying. Also I know the boss at DSG and he said for an hour labour they would be around £100-118 depending on the dealership. I did offer to pay but he wouldn't take my money, which I'm not complaining. You could try one of the other dealers or you can try getting a service and any missing dashboard update that would be paid by hyundai UK and have them throw in the update for free/cheaper? It's very strange its not covered as part of Hyundai UK dashboard/warranty.
@@LemonTeaLeaf Thanks ... I'll chase the local dealer as I've been a customer for 20 years! Mine is black 😀. I've seen the "silver" one a couple of times too!
Just had an update from the dealer (Falkirk) - apparently my car isn't automatically showing as an upgrade candidate on their system, but they're going to do the work. I'll update the thread on whether there's any charge or not. Seems crazy that some car manufacturers aren't terribly organised with this sort of thing.
On the N model vs Ultimate (or Namsan) vs P45 - no solar, no pop-out, no rear-sun-blinds, no rear elec seats, no cooled seats (on the N), HDA v1.5, possibly a rear wiper - I've an AWD big battery Namsan on order but am seriously considering cancelling it or offering it to someone who wants one quick. The p45 is a superior car IMO - except for the slightly larger battery, a sunroof & digital side mirror (& deleted digital rear view mirror) as I believe they'll install a rear wiper - as per N model test car.
I do like the extra in the P45 which makes its a true limited edition unlike other car makers just slapping a 1st edition badge and stick on it. Depending now the N looks in styling I could be tempted to make the switch.
@@LemonTeaLeaf totally agree! Hyundai told another Hyundai dealer I was dealing with (Peterlee Hyundai) that the Namsan would be at least as high a specification as the P45. That no longer appears to be being born out in reality… Also, my local dealer has booked mine in for the BMS update - as per your advice, I needed to gently guide them where to look - they found it & are progressing with it under warranty (will have the optional £60 1st service done on same day - 2nd November). Thanks for the genuinely useful video 👍
@@ApplesnCastles Definity seems easier to get it cheaper/free if you have other worked carried out by the dealership. Good to hear they'll install it without charge and if they get it under warranty all the better 👍
@@LemonTeaLeaf Hi James, a long overdue note of thanks (+ a cheeky question); 1st, I had my p45 in for the battery BMS update - thank you; it helped that I was able to provide the specific information you'd already provided from yours (as to where they should look on their system) which certainly helped. I have the same seat-squeak issue you had there, identical to yours; I've noticed that it doesn't do it if the heated seats have been on which on the way to the dealer I had on so couldn't replicate it but on my way home, it did it immediately so I went straight back, played your demo of the noise alongside mine. Favour to ask though I've moved home & am now using a new Hyundai Dealer (Corkills, Northwich) & they're asking which dealer repaired yours so they can ask or how they repaired it -so as not to re-invent the wheel so to speak; was that Morecambe Hyundai by chance? Do you have a contact that you could send (perhaps privately) please? By the way, have a look at the cloth around the speakers on your door cards - especially the front ones. Looks like the fabric is delaminating from the door-card on mine around the speakers. My car has the light interior so may only affect or be noticeable in light? I have shown it to them for that to be repaired. Thanks again!
@@ApplesnCastles Hi, Yes it was Morecombe and if they ask for Will he'll have the information, but from what i remember they had a simliar problem with a Genesis and they fixed it with a brace to strenthen the bolster, took them a week to source the part and fix. It was all covered under warrenty also. I'll make sure to look at the door card and see if i have the same issues in the black interior. Hopefully they'll have your seat fixed as it was very annoying :)
pretty good info on your video here, just a quick question regarding to the manual pop out handles, does it retract on its own, when you get in the car? or do you have to manually push it back in
Yes sounds like it only preheats with built in satnav as I think that's where it gets the info for the a charger stop. although it might be worth a test.
I've read some of the blurb and there's mention of the battery heater only working when the SOC is above 29%. Any chance you could you a video where the SOC of the car starts at 30% and goes below the 29% while you're still driving to the HPC?
Ha that would be awesome if it did that when I get the 3d/head down view of the ioniq 5 when using the parking cameras I wish that was also changeable in colour as it's only in white. its the little things isn't it :D
It's called car scanner and it's free with ads, I paid to remove the ads. You can get it for iOS also. play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ovz.carscanner
@@LemonTeaLeaf Ok, my son is probably getting it in the near future, when he decides to make an appointment. I've seen a report stating that the charge ranged from 0 to €75 here in Germany. I will buy an Ioniq 6, as soon as possible, maybe even one of the First Edition models, depending on availability and configuration.
I got 48 kW at 0 C on my Kia EV6 in Canada. 😂 Rumour is we are getting a BMS update soon. It's available in the US for ioniq5 but they nerfed the eco performance and need to fix that.
Aw man I would have thought they rolled it out globally by now! I have my fingers crossed for you guys to get it soon as it makes a big difference in winter.
@@LemonTeaLeaf The Ioniq Guy did a RU-vid about the release in the US (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sXacOKJZA3Q.html) and did a test in a later video.
The first edition and the first shipment of ioniq 5 (late 2021) in the Uk had pop out handles, after that point they removed them in all models due to chip shortages so they could start shipments sooner to customers. They are bringing them back in now and you can order them with the tech pack. I found that they have different specs depending on your region. in the UK you can't get the sun roof as an option but can in Europe.
They're actually test mule Porsche Macan EV, think they where testing the HPC capability of them. had a nice chat with the guys but they where secretive about what they where doing 😀
