Ionization Energy and the Photoelectric Effect (AP Chemistry)

This is an AP Chemistry multiple choice question (MCQ) focusing on ionization energy and the photoelectric effect. During the photoelectron effect, a photo hits an atom and ejects an electron. Based on the kinetic energy of the electron, it possible to determine characteristics about the electron's location. The question also asks about electron orbitals, shielding, kinetic energy, ionization energy, and electric configuration.
This multiple choice question (MCQ) is specifically designed to help students with the AP® Chemistry exam, but it would also be helpful for exams and curricula such as A-levels, Regents, IGCSE, JEE, NEET, CBSE, MCAT, DAT, SAT, GRE, and OAT.

How time flies! Back in 2015 I used to listen to your lectures when I was preparing for my medical entrance exam. Today I received the notification of your new video. Now I am a postgraduate resident in pathology. Thanks man for your significant contribution ❤

thank you for all you do Tyler, i recall watching your physics 20 and 30 videos, being so discouraged with my previous exam results and thinking i would never get into university because of the difficulty. video after video i would stay up late, practicing and praying for good marks in my diploma. 5 years later I have graduated from the University of Calgary with a Computer Science Degree, with distinction! the habits you taught me were the foundation for my academic success, I cannot thank you enough! you are changing the world for young students, my accomplishments thanks to you Tyler!

I used to watch your videos, the one back in 2015. I started last year, and that time I just graduated to middle school. Your topics are very useful even as low as that. I'm in the 2nd year now, and your videos are still useful until today. I saw this version of you and wow, time really flies. You've grown a beard, your voice changed, and your type of content is shifting to more complex chemistry. Thank you for the significant contribution, now I understand materials before my teacher explained them, and I understand chemistry up to university! I'm close to a scholarship in my school and I just need to fix chemistry, I'll be sure to watch more of your videos! :D

Thanks for the creative video shooting and the step by step logical explanations. I thought I understood this. It sounded like the incident photon could have any possible energy. Shouldn't the ejected electron kinetic energy depend on the incident photon energy and which orbital gets affected? If so, couldn't any orbital provide an electron that just matches the energy of some photon so the subtracted energies get as close as possible to zero? So really, all shells could provide an electron that just has enough energy to escape...meaning A, B and C.

@@tdewitt451 It seems like there is more interest in the reactions that affect global chemistry for the next decades. Given enhanced rock weathering is a leading carbon sequestration approach, curricula may focus on its reactions. Perhaps the stereochemisty and charge distribution (as opposed to the basic balanced equation) of H+/H3O+ interacting with Ca or Mg silicate rocks (and their various spatial arrangements) would be a good next video.
