What is more IoT than controlling your power outlets through your smartphone?
I realize this project with an ESP8266, a relay and a power outlet. Quite simple and a little dangerous.

5v relays.work.with the mcu just fine.You can power the relay5v via the 5v pin.And the relay geta triggered by the 3.3v signal
@nenioc187
@nenioc187 6 лет назад
That is correct. As you can see in the video, the relay does it's job without the need for a level shifter.

Thanks! Inspiring people was the main reason, I started this channel. So this is one of the best compliments, I can receive. Keep it up! And be careful when working with high voltage!

Great project; much nicer solution than fastening the power strip on the wall within your reach (and your visitors' view)! Wish I could do this in my home, but I understand that you would burn my house down or electrocute me for pirating your creation. 😂

You should add strain relief to the mains (AC) cable, it can easily be pulled loose.

Hi, I have a question. can i power up a 5 volt 4 channel relay module with a 5 volt 0.7-0.8 mAh wall type charger, which is basically use for charge the simple mobiles. If yes, then how i connect, i mean what will be the circuit diagram. which wire will be connect with the vcc and which wire connect with the ground and which wire is connect with the ESP8286. OR, ESP8266 nodeMCU board 3.3volt is sufficient for 4 channel 5 volt relay? i am try to built a home automation project. Thank you very much. Please help me

What was that interface you were using to make the button etc? Did you write your code or did you get help with an external application.

Hi. You seem very knowledgable... so question: i want to set up my home yard sprinkler, interior lights, etc. so that i can control them remotely on my smart phone/PC. Yes, there r a lot of products out there that do this via wifi. However, my wifi router at home occasionally needs a reboot (unplug and plug back in). I wont be able to physically do this rebooting while traveling in other countries for many months at a time. What are my options these days to alleviate this issue? Thanks!
@nenioc187
@nenioc187 6 лет назад
There is no need to reinvent the wheel. There are cheap digital plugs, that can be programmed to turn off/on at a specific time. No WiFi required and you'll probably find them at your local hardware store.

but once you said relay works with 5v but in video it also get triggered with 3v.why?
@nenioc187
@nenioc187 5 лет назад
It has to be powered with 5V. But due it's cheap quality, the trigger pins are 3.3V tolerant.

Thanx for the project, but above all thanx for the coding which is short and simple! :D Is there a way how to add to this project another mechanical (normal) switch and what would be the difference in coding?
@nenioc187
@nenioc187 6 лет назад
The relay works like most light switches. You can build a cross connection with it. The code only handles the relay state. So there is no need to modify it.

Mains voltage is dangerous! And can be lethal if you are doing it wrong! If you have to ask this kind of question, I highly recommend asking a professional for help you with this project. Your life is too valuable for this.

Well, if you are using a MQTT broker that is accessible from the internet, you can control it from everywhere on the world, where you have internet connection.
