Female subscriber here, LOL. My husband and I love your maps at the beginning of your videos. Thank you for all of your videos. My husband and I watch your videos and will be going to some of your favorite places. Love Roodle. Thanks Carrie and Dave.
Yes! 😀What a pleasant surprise to wake-up to! It’s so reassuring to see a real-life example of your entire process, using iOverlander and feet-on-the-ground assessments. Your hard work in producing this video will undoubtedly make a countless number of people safer and happier for having watched!
Hi! Loved the opening drone footage. So beautiful. The end footage was so amazing. Thank you for sharing this beautiful area....perfect with morning coffee. I love doodle in the beginning....he's totally there and then lays down lol. What a nice tutorial and over view of Ilander. Good to know information...you made it feel less overwhelming by showing how easy it is to use. What a stunning spot....That mountain! Great video!!!!! Xo
Thank you, Jim! I think the wind damaged the drone. We may have have to invest in a new one. We have got over two years out of it with a massive amount of flight time.
This was very informative. Lots of logistic behind boondocking. Are you sometimes burn out by vanlife and you feel to step away from the van by renting an airbnb place for short little time?
This app is going to be really handy when I get closer to west. East coast really sucks for boondocking and there is barely any places to camp. But I did find some new places I had no idea existed thanks to guys!♥️
@@oneadVANtureatatime You're quite welcome! Four Hundred "Likes'. and only two "Thumbs-Downs" is a very telling and successful record. Please don't be discouraged by the few douchebags out there.
Thank you, Papa John! We appreciate you taking the time to comment. We love to be helpful so if you have any questions please as. We have been living in our van full time for 2 years now. 😀
This was very good information for me. I am about to start my journey in a few weeks in a Chevrolet suburban with my greyhound Annie. Annie would love to meet Roodle . Your advice about this app. and use of the filters was very helpful! Thank you guys! Stay safe! 😉
+Bob Cruikshank you are very welcome! You will find iOverlander get used A LOT. You might want to have a few other back up apps. Freecampsites.net, compendium, Boondocking and my new favorite is FREEROAM
You are very welcome, Stephani. We made another video last fall that may be helpful. We cover our top 5 ways to find free camping. I will leave the link below. We love to be helpful so if you have any questions please ask. 😀
Thank you, Joy. We also like the “FreeRoam” app. It's also free like ioverlander but seems to have better camping destination locations. This app does not get used as much and that turns out to be a good thing. It also can show public lands like BLM and National Forest. 😀
Don't ever camp out at the Sun Coast Casino in Las Vegas. They don't allow you to stay there to camp unless you have a room there. They will ask and verify if you have reserved a room if you are caught trying to stealth camp on their property. Stay away from camping from that place unless you go there to gamble or eat. I go to Red Rock Canyon or closer to Mt. Charleston to no get hassled with.
All great helpful info. I don’t think I’ll be camping at all this year but when I’m finally able to hit the road I’m anxious to try out this app. That’s great that you guys have only had to pay for camping once since you started traveling. Your channel has provided info about many great places I want to check out when I’m able. I really appreciate all I’ve learned from you guys and very grateful you have a channel as a resource for me. As always happy and safe travels. 🚐🐶😷❤️
Thanks for sharing your knowledge, I have a question that I can't understand with the video. How do you find in ioverlander the location that you had selected in google maps, for example, mt hood highway 35? When you go from maps to ioverland, you get the same location that you had on maps. Thks
Hi Andres. When you are in the ioverlander app looking at a possible camp location, if you scroll down it should give you the option to open up google maps. I hope that helps, I may have misunderstood your question. It's best to start with ioverlander and then pull up google maps to check the area out as well.
we love national forests and BLM (Bureau of Land Management) land. You can find some areas on Ioverlander or search for dispersed camping in whatever area you are in.
Hi Michele. We have thought long and hard about this one. We deliberately don't leave comments on Ioverlander because many locations are getting overused and shut down. We are afraid that the next time we need to use one it will have a brand new sign that says no overnight parking. Normally we love sharing our camping locations so others can enjoy the same area but this app is extremely popular and widely used.
@@oneadVANtureatatime Good point. Reason I asked was, you mentioned iOverlander last year in your travels and as I was trying to plan a trip (pre Covid) with some iOverlander locations. When I visited sites in the midwest and most if not all hadn't had a review in a year or two and I was hesitant to try and use them not knowing if they were still open. I can see why you do not leave a review if it already has had a lot of recent reviews. Thanks for the input I didn't think about the high usage issue, makes sense.
We have the campendium app but don't use it much at all. Initially, it did not have the off the beaten path places we like so much. It's been a while and we should give it another chance. That would be a good comparison for use to do after more research .
@@oneadVANtureatatime I've used campendium.com recently and it was OK, helped us find some spots that we wouldn't have known about otherwise. I had never heard of ioverlander. I just downloaded it and did some looking around. It seems like it might be better than campendium in many ways. It has some spots on our last route that I didnt see on campendium. Campendium might just be another option. I just use their website, I don't know if they have an app. I wonder if all these things will get better as time goes on and more and more people add things to these sites and apps. I really like that ioverlander has many other filters like showers, water, laundromat, etc. That sets it apart. Edit: Oh yeah, one thing I like about campendium for right now is that you can check a box to exclude places that are currently closed due to covid. That was helpful.
Great video guys! We have used this app a couple times this year for the first time and love it! Great review. We have parked our van in some nice campsites from iOverlander. Sometimes Nieghbors are not bad to have. Thanks for sharing. ~ Paul & Magen
@@StacyForest738 If your using your iPhone or tablet: open app and the the blue dot is you. Use both your thumbs and drag from the outside of your screen to the middle. every time you do this it will reveal more land around you. move the screen with your finger until the area you'd like to visit appears then pinch in (opposite action with fingers) when icons appear tap on one. info will come up. At the top right is the word "Filter" tap there and you can choose what you're looking for: water, bathrooms, wild camping, mechanics, etc. Best advice would be really play around with the app and get familiar before you leave on a trip.
@@michele2017promastertravel Oh that is great info! I have played around on the app but never had much luck figuring out how to use it well. That is really helpful about dragging the blue dot. Thanks!
Those coordinates are longitude and latitude in decimal degree format. Plug those into almost any car or hand held GPS device and it will give you directions to the site. The biggest problem people have is plugging in the coordinates in the wrong format. There are two primary formats: Decimal degrees such as IOverlander uses and Degrees-Minutes- and Seconds as you would find on a USGS Map. Conversion between the two formats is simply a matter multiplying or dividing the appropriate units by 60.
Very true Bob. One time I was picking up trash and found a 10 dollar bill! We really don't mind picking up a little trash and maybe people will see us doing it and join in. 😎 We hope you are doing well and getting time to enjoy your photography.
We live in a place where people litter a lot, even just the way the trash truck works sometimes litters when they pick up the trash. My husband goes onto our street almost every day to pick up all the trash around. One time he found a dollar! Haha! Not very good hourly pay for that job, but the perk is really not having to look at all the trash and keeping our neighborhood clean!!!
