Ip Man vs Gang of Axes in the movie Ip Man: Kung Fu Master (2019) 

I like how everyone politely waits their turn to get kicked.

This was more believable when it was called "Kungfu Hustle"

Ridiculous. What made the first Donnie Ip Man fight scenes great was that they were just within the realm of feasibility. Taking on ten unarmed men was farfetched but you could imagine one of history's greatest masters pulling it off if he doesn't hold back. This though? This would be hard to believe if it was in the MCU!

This film is closer in style and writing to Kung Fu Hustle than the original Ip Man film.

So, let me get this straight. This "Ip Man" is taking on 1,732 dudes with axes while these other dudes just play a game of big ass Asian checkers? Oh Donnie Yen how I miss thee.

the fact that it's not Donnie Yen automatically makes this a fail

Even Smith managed to punch Neo a few times.

If you think about it's pretty amazing that the whole Transformers franchise is more believable than this scene.

This movie takes place in a parallel universe when axes can't be thrown on someone intentionally

Now I have to watch Donnie’s Ip man to restore my faith and respect for Ip man.

If a man could actually pull this off in real life, he’d need to be Captain America or some shit. This type of skill can only be pulled off if your mental processing ability and reflexes are superhuman.

Safe to say Donnie Yen was the best Ip Man since he could fight so many people at once, now most of the time people who fight this many, take turns fighting the main character. Meanwhile, Donnie Yen fought 4 guys at the same time when they all attacked at. The. Same. Time.

I always enjoy looking at the extras in the background flailing around.

I was a huge fan of Kung Fu films, until the day I got tired of always seeing and seeing the same stupidities that we can see in this film (and in many others), a man against a hundred men, it becomes redundant and exhausting. I would like to see more (very) realistic, historical Kung Fu films about the creation of such and such styles of Kung Fu, why and how they had the idea to create these styles: Hung Gar, Pak Hok, Pak Meï, Shi Dong Wu, Ba Fan Men, Pao Ying Kuen etc...

All that fighting while going up the stairs and his hair still maintain dry and he doesn't even break a sweat..god damn! haha

Kung Fu can beat hundreds of people around with weapons, but lose to 1 MMA fighter. How strange

Why couldn't they just call it Kung Fu Hustle: IP Man, I could've lived with that.

This is sadly the most derivative of the IP MAN movies. Not only of the Donnie Yen films (the gold standard) but of other Hong Kong films like KUNG FU HUSTLE.

Only thing accurate is the fact that the real Ip Man was actually a cop in Foshan around 1916

I hate seeing this kind of fight where the guys in the back just did nothing. We don't have eyes in the back. This is the best spot to attack.

Everyone talks shit about the fight sequence, but the dialogue is the real tragedy here.

Ip Man is a historical figure and now thanks to movies like these, a lot of people will not have a clue what kind of person he really was. I get that it's for entertainment but when basing a character from a real life person and make him do over the top things like fighting a hundred people without even a scratch like he's Superman is just confusing alot of viewers of what he really is in real life. I've done my research and I know for a fact that none of this stuff in the movie is true about him other than he did Wing Chun, but for many people in the world who don't do their research would probably believe it in a heartbeat.

I wonder how a fight like that will turn out in real life. 🤔

Kung Fu movies have gone down the drain as of late. The constant over reliance of cinematic fight scenes, strings and gravity defying skills (using strings) has made these movies feel more and more pretentious. I really miss the days of Jackie Chan and Jet Lee where the fights cerography were well thought out and the characters felt highly skilled in the arts. Ip Mann 1 was one of the few movies that trancended beyond just being a action flick into a pretty heartful movie about surviving an invasion. The rest of the series promptly degraded into a campy martial arts movie where you can ignore most of the story and acting and are only there for the fightscenes. Even then those fightscenes aren't quite as entertaining as it used to be thanks to their over reliance on strings.

Man, is that unrealistic, that's a catastrophe. Always attack in turn, not all at once. One attacks and the remaining 50 jump around and wait until the predecessor is defeated. It's like a bad Hollywood movie. And I don't think it's realistic that he hits so hard that the guy flies 20 meters backwards. Not even with a Wing Chun master

Thought this was Kung Fu Hustle, would not have been surprised if you told me this was a sequel to that movie.

They made this man a god. Even the Hulk can't stand a man with that many knives. The room is a person like you and me, only a person with good technique.

Needs more axes. I'm just saying I take a shower in axes every day and that's not enough. They need a giant hand with a giant ax to come down towards him from the sky, like an omnipotent ax. I'm just saying.

Donnie Yen has so much majesty on screen. He's technically skilled but its his soul that his character fights with which makes him outstanding. This guy is alright.
