A lot has changed with the new iPad Air. I’ll give you a down-to-earth guided tour, but I’ll also ask: can a professional guitarist run their life out of an iPad? I’ll show you what’s possible.
I review the new iPad Air I just switched to and compare it to the 2017 10.5” iPad Pro I’m coming from. We’ll take a thorough look at the new USB-C port, the benefits and pitfalls, and how it works with hard drives and audio interfaces. Also: no home button! No headphone jack! Does it matter?

Great. Helpful. Watched your first video on the Schure which was great too. However, audio and video out of sync a lot....on this review... I think that I am in wait and see mode as Apple are about to launch another ipad. I have the 10.5 “ ipad pro and it has been my no 1 item since buying in 2018. I have an iphone 12. Have been a mac user since 1993! Have a 2008 imac that functions and have all old files accessible to that via an external drive. My needs have changed over the years. I used to run a small and busy consultancy but now I am on my own....so much easier just taking care of me rather than a small office of people and associates....so my needs are simpler too...mainly wordprocessing, all the usual photo and video stuff, plus a need to develop podcasting (hence the interest in the Schure). I need a bigger screen than the 10.5 pro and the imac does not cut it now....pondering a macbook air or a larger ipad pro..which I will need to work out how to access my old files... Apologies for the ramble!.....I get to this techie transition point every eight to ten years and started with the need for a mic (will the Schure work with new ipads with non thunderbolt? I think there are issues that you have highlighted in the other video...) and now looking at the whole ecosystem! Throw everything in the air and start again, maybe?! I have subscribed. I like the thoroughness and the excellent communication style. Please get the sync issue sorted...and can i magically learn to play the guitar as well as you (well, no! Of course not! No shortcuts to that!) Thanks.

Hey Pete! Ramble on, brother. I’m here for it. Audio sync issues were down to me not paying close attention to the sample rate-LumaFusion projects are at 48khz, and if you import 44.1khz audio it loses sync. Noticed this halfway into making this, and was too far gone to start over! As for tech transitions, the iPad has become so capable that it can accommodate all but a very few use cases, and as such is more than enough computer for most people. And the rumors indicate that the new ones may even finally be able to run pro applications such as logic and final cut. If that’s the case, then one has to really struggle to find a good reason to stick with a laptop. I happen to have acquired the Apple magic keyboard for this iPad, and I can tell you that it is my favorite computer I’ve ever owned in that configuration. Fingers crossed for the next launch! @@SamVarma Cheers Sam! I see that the new iPad pro 12.9 will have thunderbolt as well as a better screen.....Will that resolve the issue with the Schure microphone perhaps? Go well, meanwhile!

@@peterawlings6568 I read it might have USB 4, which would be awesome. It’s the latest spec, which would be compatible with thunderbolt as well. As you know if you’ve watched the video, I spent a lot of time digging into the state of USB... ;)

@@SamVarma thank you so much, unfortunately yes, but this video was so complete and perfect 👍🏻. I am a musician ,a pianist, and I’m studying music in university, I bought an iPad pro 10.5 (2017) 512G like you about 6 months before. In your idea is it better for me to sell this and buy iPad air 4 or iPad pro 11 (2020)? I mostly use iPad for taking notes ,reading books, watching videos and see music sheets. I want to buy a Apple Pencil! In your idea upgrade this device or just keep iPad pro 10.5 and buy a Apple pencil 1st gen? I worried about getting update of this device I worry it no longer get update on 2 years later. I would be so happy if you help me. And again thank you so much for your attention, and high knowledge!

@@SamVarma and I worry about the lower refresh rate (mostly for writing with Apple Pencil) and having just two speakers (not 4 speakers like pro) on iPad air4 in comparison to iPad pro 10.5, are this problems bothering ?

@@rasaebadinia2326 Let’s see: the 10.5 is getting old now, and buying a pencil for it might be a waste of money since it will only be compatible with the old iPads. You have 512GB, which is a lot of storage, and that was the main reason I upgraded. I would say that if you think you will use it, and you can afford it, it would be worth getting a new M1 11 iPad Pro with a pencil. The Pros last longer than lower models, and you will be able to use it to do more than you think. The 10.5 is getting older, and there are many things it can’t do-from the camera system to the neural coprocessor. If it’s too expensive, a good compromise might be to buy a used 2019/20 iPad Pro. Almost all the benefits but less expensive. And don’t forget to look for the certified refurbished ones, since they have the same warranty and are identical to brand new (I’ve bought refurbs many times). Hope this helps, and good luck!
