I don't understand why the new iPad Air 4 is so hyped and even called the “iPad Pro Killer”. If 64 GB is not enough for you, you have to go straight to 256 GB because 128 GB is not available on the iPad Air. Then the gap between iPad Pro and iPad Air is just 50 €, and even if 64GB is enough, the price difference is 200 €. But you can sell it for a higher selling price if you decide to sell it and then you will get a price difference of 100 € or less. Then you get the following advantages: -120 Hz instead of just 60 Hz -Face ID instead of Touch ID -an additional ultra wide angle camera -Lidar scanner -600 nits maximum brightness instead of 500 nits -better processor -higher selling price if you sell the iPad used - thinner display bezels - better speakers -etc.
Yeah exactly! I went with iPad Pro 11 2020 with 4G cuz I have to choose between that or a iPad Air 4 4G but only 64gb storage... It has arrived today and I’m gonna use it as a student and also a lot off grafic design. This 120hz is just so good on a iPad if you are a gamer or a designer you will 💯 see and feel the difference it’s night and day!! If anyone gonna buy the air 4 go with the pro you will not regret that also spec wise it will hold up really good❤️
A lot of people don't care... the average consumer just wants an iPad not a pro camera on a tablet. I agree but its not gonna influence the general publics decision.
With the exception of the last iPad air I had, I have had each of my ipads for about 5 years Spending the extra money to get more ram and extra cores made sense to me since I plan to keep the 11" pro for about 5 - 6 years.
Hey, 5 months late, but I just did the same thing. The air was a super nice device, but the extra RAM, storage, and the 120HZ screen made me decide to go with the iPad Pro 12.9”. I don’t plan on replacing my laptop, but it will be great for basic things that my gaming laptop cannot sustain (it only gets about 3 hours with max power saving on battery). How are you liking it so far?
I had the Ipad Pro and recently bought the Ipad Air for my brother. Even though most people say that there are very little differences, they are in my opinion not so insignificant. For a user like me who does a lot with the Ipad Pro (University, Writing, Drawing, Work) the 120 Hz is a huge plus when compared to the 60 Hz of the Ipad Air. Another factor that bothered me a lot were the speakers. Compared to the Pro the speakers on the Air were quite literally garbage. For my brother who uses it for everyday surfing and casual use, the Air is perfect. But for people who want to use it for more productive tasks, the Pro is the way to go.
For surfing and simple tasks, there is the ipad 8. gen. The ipad air4 is buildt for video editing ans photo editing. Ipad is with it 120hz screen better for drawing
I was so sad when the air was launched in September thinking i probably wasted my money to get the 11" pro in August. But I'm so glad i didn't get this one. As a student and digital artist 120 Hz comes in handy. It almost feels exactly like paper. I switched off promotion to experience 60 Hz and it ws significantly slower. Plus you don't get a flash in air which comes in handy as I've to take photos and scans of documents all the time.
@@paulanonuevo9056 this is a reason why I’ve been hesitant about getting anything with such a high refresh rate, honestly; I feel like it will make everything else I deal with (60hz displays) look quite poir
@@PortableMediaReviews true but in contrast to what I said you'll kinda forget about it for a week. (switching from my s20 fe to Note10 as my main phone).
Took a looooong time to decide between the two, and I just got the new ipad air 4. Thank you for your videos that helped me making the decision. Im pretty impressed with ipad air 4.
I picked up the iPad Air 4 after a lot of contemplation. I’m very satisfied with it. It’s extremely fast for what I need to do with it, like multitasking with Microsoft excel/word, surfing safari, and watching HBO. The 2 speakers are great. I have the magic keyboard which works like a charm. I have the 256 gb version for $750. iPad Pro 256 gb was only $100 more ($50 off on amazon). Sure the iPad Air doesn’t have 120 hz which was the only reason for me personally to get the pro instead but I’m very happy with the air!
Normally if I want to take a look at the screen, I lift the device and automatically put the finger on the reader so when I actually look at it, it's unlocked already. So that depends on how you adapt the flow of how you do things... And this is faster* than face id.
You have the ability to make me feel I need to buy all Apple products that I don’t actually need 🙄️ I had MBP 16, you made me want to buy a MBP 13 2020; I had a 2018 iPad Pro, you made me want to buy an iPad Air 4 and an iPad Pro 2020. Great job!
Upgrading my dad's iPad air 2 for Christmas and wanted to get an new ipad air 4, but just can't commit to the the 64GB and getting 256 doesn't make much sense bc it's so close to the pro. The way I think of it, my dad will most likely never really notice or use all of that extra 128 GB of storage of the air(256GB) compared to the pro 128 GB, but he WILL notice the better speakers and refresh rate screen of the pro and, 128 GB is the sweet spot. So for me, the pro just makes the most sense and seems like the best way to spend the money. I'm excited, will be a huge upgrade, even though it's probably overkill for him. He will keep it for 5+ years
I was thinking the same thing. I wanted to get my wife a new iPad for Christmas, upgrading from her current Air 2. I was leaning towards the iPad Air 4 and originally thinking of the 64GB. But now I am thinking the extra storage space might be the better option, although she currently has 10GB remaining of the 64GB of her Air 2. But as you said, if I am paying the $749 for Air 2 (256GB), does it make more sense to pay $50 more for the iPad Pro 11 inch (2020 with 128 GB, which is more than enough storage). My one hesitation is that I think she would personally prefer the Touch ID over the Face ID. Would it be good enough to just get the 64GB ipad Air 4 and by an adapter or dongle for external storage? Any thoughts?
@@bryanm5901 Hi. I think it depends on what she uses it for. To me, it would only make sense to buy external storage for images and videos to be connected when editing videos or doing temporary work. I'm not completely sure how apps work for external storage, but I doubt one would be hooking up storage to access apps. Apple does have some good cloud storage plans which could be used to store photos, videos, and app data (I don't think apps can be accessed through the cloud), which could be an option for you if a lot of her storage is taken up by photos and videos. The majority of my dad's Ipad is apps, so I just went for the 128 GB pro.
I still can't decide what to get. Any suggestions? I will use it for drawing, watching videos, taking notes, gaming, and zoom. If I get the pro I'll get 128 gigs. If I get the air I'll get 256 gigs.
Currently a new refurbished iPad Pro 2020 from apple costs less than an iPad Air. So I thought promotion and a better chipset would be better off for the long run
@@TheiTE Mine got delivered on 24 oct, 64GB Green, I know how it works. Speakers are placed a bit far from the grill, so the sound comes from all. However, a bit louder from two than other two. But this stereo setup is perfect.
@@AshuKemla Yeah, the sound quality will be great. Mine is coming 2 weeks later. But... The iPad Pro Will be slightly louder and fuller in terms of sound quality
Guys, I have a question and need your insights on it. I am a college student and am currently in my second year. I am getting an iPad as a birthday gift from my Bro-in-law. He gave me the choice to choose the one I like the best. He doesn't mind the price difference between the Air 4 and the Pro. He is adamant that I get the better one regardless of the price. This is my first iPad or even tablet for that matter and I do not see myself upgrading from this for at least the next four or five years. I intend to use it for college work, multimedia consumption, gaming, video editing and design. Here is my question- what should I do? 1) Get the Air 4 64GB (I'd rather have the Pro 128GB than the Air 256GB) or 2) Get the Pro 2020 11-inch 128GB or 3) Wait for the next iPad Pro. P.S.- Regarding the 3rd point, when is the next Pro slated to release? I thought Apple comes out with a new Pro every two years. But I've heard people saying it is due next March. If that is the case, I can wait till then. But anything later than March is not ideal for me. Thanks in advance.
You should get the Ipad pro 11 inch. Everyone else just has a problem in picking between pro and air because they need to think about the money they're spending. If money isn't the problem then go for the ipad pro. I think you won't regret getting the pro.
i rarely write comments on youtube but man i love your content. professional but not too serious, you keep things simple and voluntarily with a bit of humor and you don't overwhelm the viewer with boring prolonged specs. talk. As for which ipad, I'll definitely go with the pro. Problem is.......can't afford neither of them.
I think another important thing to consider, is it going to be your primary device? I already have a phone and a laptop, 256gb and 1tb+256 respectively. And I do most of my stuff there. So if ever I'm going to buy this, I'm not gonna need another 256 just for my TERTIARY gadget
Can anyone help? I think I’m going to get an iPad, and I was thinking of the air 4, but 64GB was just too low. 128GB would have been the sweet spot, but I thought I would go for the 256GB model anyway. But I realised the iPad Pro 11inch base model was only £40 (here in the UK) off the 256GB iPad Air 4. As I said, the 128GB is no problem, so what model do people think I should go for?
I’d go with the Pro 128GB. There’s not a lot of difference in price between the Air 256GB and the Pro 128GB. For just 40£/50€ I’d always go for the Pro
I’d go pro if I was in your situation, if the difference is just 40£ which gives a better screen, battery life, brightness, camera, ram, better sizes and Face ID, the pro is the best thing for you and You won’t regret your decision
I’d go with the Pro, unless you value the extra 128gb of storage on the Air. If you think 128gb is enough for you, and it’ll be in the future, get the Pro.
@Freakyooo I'm not looking for a full refresh, just a minor update to the new architect. I would assume that they would do something like this at the Mac event, considering that the iPad Air can outperform the Pro in some areas.
@@nightthemoon8481 two generations old? Dude it literally came out in march 2020 and they skipped number 13 they went from A12 to A14. Two years less updates? What the eff?? 0.o
Will the iPad Air be powerful enough long term? Typically keep my devices until they are no longer supported by software updates. Will it still be running smoothly throughout its lifecycle?
Gary...I have recently sold my iPad 6th gen, iPad mini 4, Mac mini, and I am left with my iPad Pro 10.5 inch 512 gb 2017 and my MacBook Pro 15 inch. I am also looking to upgrade my iPhone to the iPhone XS Max to the 12 Pro Max. I run my skincare business and have recently gone paperless and clients fill everything out on my iPad using the Apple Pencil. I am torn which iPad to upgrade to, the new Air 4 or Pro 11 inch? Or do you recommend I just keep the current iPad? So far out of the 512 gb on my iPad Pro 10.5 inch I have only used 32 gb. I use this iPad for work and personal. I create marketing ads on it, email, POS (square), client before and after pics, web browsing, watching RU-vid videos. I also use MS office for iPad too, photo editing, social media too. Some basic video edits, very basic, nothing more than 5 minutes long. Please give your opinion and why. Thank u Gary. Love the videos and content too!
I’d love to get the pro. But i would rather choose the iPad Air 4 256gb because still cheaper than the pro and spend that money for the apple pencil To make it simple better to get Air 4 256gb + apple pencil with the same price instead of getting only iPad pro 128gb Just personal opinion tho 😌
Same. I really liked the rose gold ! To match my phone and Apple Watch. I wanted something light to, especially since I already have a MacBook. I’m gonna wait to see the new iPads in April. But as of right now I’m stuck on the air.
Thanks for all the videos Gary!! You helped me to make my decision for the 2020 Ipad Pro 11" with 256gb. My logic was that I am using my ipad for many different things these days, including video editing with Luma Fusion, so I wanted a slightly bigger SSD than my current 128gb (in an older Ipad 5th gen), and 256gb, coupled with an 1 TB SSD (Samsung T5), should work perfect for me. Given my video editing needs, I also wanted 6gb of RAM which will allow me to work with 4k video, and hopefully 5k in a few years when this becomes more common as RAM will benefit mutitasking with larger files. I watched video after video trying to figure this out, and came across another review by Noah Herman (iPad Air 4 vs iPad Pro 2020/2018 // Performance Test! - Is the Air MORE Powerful?) that demonstrated the video performance difference I was looking for. After buying the 256gb Ipad Pro, I find that I like the Face ID (it is usually quicker than pressing a button), and have been enjoying looking for accessories (case, pencil, fast charger, USB -C 3.1 cable, adapters, etc). And btw I bought my Ipad Pro at Costco for $850, which is $49 off Apple's price! Good luck everyone!
The most important aspect of the iPad is the display. If you use the iPad for reading, media consumption, gaming you're going to want to go Pro. However, if you're going to use your iPad for getting work done, taking notes, or just needing a portable productivity tool, then the Air is the way to go. I was the first list of scenarios. I had tried the Air before buying the Pro and I could notice the difference and I am just an average consumer. Great video like always.
In my country, the 64GB Air is priced aroung 680 USD, while the 128GB 11 inch Pro is at aroung 820 USD. Spending a little more for the Pro is a no-brainer.
I would like to buy a Tablet for the next 5 Years. (Study/Work/Netflix/a bit gaming. I would use most of the time ApplePen. Shall I pick the Air or shall I Go with the Pro ? Thanks for your answear!
I still don't know which to buy.. I really like the pro but the air opens apps faster and I like that.. also I want to buy an ipad to last me atleast 3-4yrs so it got to be future proof.
Air is faster than the pro only at the single core in multicore pro is faster so basically pro is faster also it has more ram. I would recommend to go for pro cause 1) 120hz 2) better camera with flash 3) better speaker 4) more ram 5) more storage 6) Face ID Of course there are also some minor improvements So if you have the budget then iPad Pro is still the better choice
Unfortunately, the cellular version I wanted made the air cost the same as the 256 gig 11 in iPad Pro. So I ended up getting the pro and honestly I really like it. I saved for a laptop replacement and apple made the best touch screen machine. The used 2020 iPad Pro 11 in is a steal.
This video genuinely allowed me to make a decision between which iPad I was going to buy THANK YOU!!! I watched soooo many comparison vids and not until this one did I get some content that allowed me to compare how I would use this in my day to day life and how to compare the $$ vs storage and so much more. Again thank you!
@@imaarush_ I don't think software will catch up to the processing needs of a newer chip (not even in 4 years). I have the 512gb 11" pro model. If I didn't own an iPad I would definitely go for the iPad air 2020 without a doubt
@@imaarush_ got ya, me not having it would be getting in the way of making videos. But if u don't need it hell yea I say wait for the newer one. Also the chips samsung are producing are gonna be revolutionary they're saying their mid range phones will out produce their the snapdragon 865+! So i can only imagine that their flagship chip will be just as fast or faster than the a14 chip. @@hannahvivi5066 If you only have enough money for one I’d get the iPad. You can get a Logitech Bluetooth keyboard and mouse to go with it. I prefer my iPad to type at and watch Netflix. I only use my laptop for heavy workloads because it’s easier to multitask on a Mac (iPad is getting better every update) iPad does share more app compatibility to iPhone than Mac does.
i used the air briefly but found that the lack of promotion and the sliiiiightly smaller bezels really bothered me, so i had to upgrade. but if you’re not too pedantic, the Air is absolutely amazing for note-taking
Bought my ipad pro last october 21 'cause I couldn't wait for the ipad air 4. I'm actually glad I did just that. I'm loving everything about it so far and I don't regret buying it. I use it more than I use my phone and my macbook air 2019. It's faster than my macbook at some points but the power of a laptop/computer just feels different.
Picked up the 256 gb version of the Air 4 and absolutely love it. I’ve been using it exclusively to edit my photography. It’s a workhorse. I’m going to see how it works out when I use Adobe Rush to edit my videos as well.
As a person living in a 3rd world country where it doesnt have official apple store so the new stuff always coming late (around 3-6 months late), im struggling to buy these ipad. The only way we could get this ipad air is through black market online store where they bought the item from other countries, and they hijacked the price until its the same price with the ipad pro one (same storage space). People tend to say that we should buy the ipad air because its value for money, but if they are at the same price, what would you choose? Im confuse, should i buy ipad air 4 or ipad pro 2020?
Another great video TEDD. I was able to get the iPad Pro on an education pricing deal for the same price as the new air. Also included free air pods. Couldn’t pass it up. Although I’m sure either iPad would have work for my use case.
@@truemex4life it was a promotion at the beginning of October in Canada. I got it in an email from Apple. I had to order direct from Apple. But it ended on October 13th.
@@truemex4life I looked back at my order. I made a mistake. It was the same price to get the iPad Pro with free air pods. As what the iPad Air with the next size up in storage would have been. Still a good deal I think
Do you think an air or a pro can replace a laptop? I want to be able to use procreate for art and lettering, Adobe photoshop and illustrator, but I also want more of a computer experience for scanning documents, web browsing, etc. thoughts??
Great video. I’m trying to decide on the iPad Pro and reMarkable 2. I know... completely different devices. Thank you for sharing. Btw...I swear you look like someone I was deployed with in 2008.
Could you elaborate more why the Air 4 is better than the 2018 Pro? Apple has refurbished 2018 pros on their website for cheaper than the Air 4, and some features on the 2018 pro make it sound like the better device (at least on paper).
I also prefer touch ID on phones but face ID on ipad. Just because I dont unlock ipad as much as my iphone in public. I usually work with my ipad sitting down. Also the location of the touch ID on the iphone is front, center, where you’d normally type. On the ipad, you have to slide your finger to the side.
Hey Gary, hope ur doin good, I've been planning to get my first macbook but I'm super confused (obviously) , I've been watching so many videos about what macbook should i go for, and your's as well, but Still confused. So basically my needs are : coding, photo editing and normal school work. Can u please suggest a macbook for me? Thank you✌️♥️
i would suggest the 16” macbook pro for your needs. It would be the best. A 13” macbook pro is good but for photo editing it is probably better to have a dedicated GPU. The extra processing power is nice.
Hey Everyday Dad, now that the M1 iPad Pro is announced, there have been discounts on iPad Air 4 to $550 and iPad Pro 2020 to $700. Considering the differences in the video, do you think the $150 is worth it for the extra storage and features in the Pro 2020?
I went for the iPad Pro 2018 with the A12. It is pretty much the same design as an iPad Air 4 but with promotion, quad speakers, Face ID, and a few other things. Only thing is that I got it on Amazon renewed, so a used or refurbished products. Here’s to hoping it comes with like-new condition!!
The SoC in the iPad Pro 2020 is just far inferior using A12 cores. The new upcoming A14X 2021 iPad Pro is a much fairer comparison using A14 cores just like the iPad Air 4.
I think it's like that: if you are enough with 64gb - take Air 4, if you want more take pro 2020 11" 128gb or more if you need (of course if 120hz is must so you know what to choose)
I’m a college student who is getting a MacBook and iPad duo for school and I’ve been going back and forth on which iPad to get. I’ve decided to save money on the iPad to put more towards upgrades on the MacBook since the iPad will mostly only be for note taking. The iPad Air does everything I need! 😁 thank you for this helpful video
Hey Gary! Been in a toss up. For the kind of videos I make, do you think editing primarily on an iPad Air would cut it? I’d like to edit photos, do all video editing (color grading, sound design, etc) and I’d also like to make some music on it. Do you think the Air could cut it?
In my county the iPad Pro 2020 is cheaper than iPad Air 4 after the announcement of the 2021 iPad pros. They will probably revise the iPad Air 4 price. And the good news is that, the 2021 iPad Pro starts at 22% cheaper than old stating price of the 2020 iPad Pro
Honestly man just get a base model iPad Pro 2020, in some stores they sell it for $50 cheaper, nobody will use up 128 unless you’re a student and even then a 128 GB model is more than enough, I got a 256 GB because I want it to be future proofed.
Hey depends for what, bc if I were u, I would get the 2018 Ipad pro, bc it has 120hz screen, and it has a good procesor, but if you want it for school, art, and/or music/videoediting, then I would go for the 2020 ipad pro for that minimum of 128gb of storage and the a12Z chip.
Here in the Philippines, Ipad Pro 11 2020, 256Gb costs USD 916.00, while Ipad 4 256Gb costs USD 885.00. With only USD31.00 difference in price, it is a no brainer that I bought the Ipad Pro
Which one is the best for video recording and live stream concerts with high quality video etc? Do you think is better to wait for Christmas as they might launch other models? There is any way to use logic pro x in the iPad?thanks , Its so overwhelming choose the right one!
I have the iPad Pro 11 in. In all honesty, I probably would’ve went with the Pro anyway because I would rather have 256 GB than 64 GB and if I’m spending $750 on the Air already, might as well go with the Pro for $50 more. However, I got my aunt the 64 GB Air and I think it will be perfect for her!
Rumour has it anything below A13 chip will not be able to play real console games, so the pro 2020 chip does need an upgrade ASAP, Air4 for could also be clocked to 90hrz in future updates
Upgraded to the air 4 from a 1st gen 9.7 pro. Thought about it for a while of either going old or new pro 11 or the air 4. Or even a used 2018 12.9 pro. Final selling point for me was looking 2 years from now I would like knowing I have a newer cpu under the hood and don’t believe I would ever utilize the 8 cores in the pro.
Lol 120 hz vs 60 hz not being that noticeable sounds like the same argument as 30 vs 60 fps from years back. It is very noticeable. It’s just that the only content that will realistically use it is slow mo video and gaming. The bigger advantage of Pro Motion for most people is matching the 24hz of most video content to save on battery
hellooo! just wanna ask something, anyone can answer. i have been contemplating for days now whether to get the ipad pro 2020 or the ipad air 4. the pro was released first and is now discontinued but i found a trustable seller and they have it. so yah. i would appreciate it if any of you reply. help me decide, plz. thank youuu!
Depends on the user. If you are the type of pictures who is a minimalist whom doesn’t store such lots of 4k videos, movies, creation works.. yes 128gb is MORE than enough. (You can still store documents, movies, videos, photos, and such but do not go overboard as if this will serve as your creation device or storage device for movies and photos) If you are the type of person who creates content to do for professional living like videos, arts... 256 is the minimum storage
