Yup. Then it's down to a 256GB Air or a 128GB Pro. In that case I'd probably go for the Pro. If the base Air was 128GB, then I'd go air no question. And that's probably why Apple limited the base Air to 64GB, not to cannibalize sales of the base Pro.
Very much true. I had ordered 64 GB version first but then cancelled the order and bought 256 GB one. Tbh it wasn't a tough call for me to choose between 256 GB iPad Air and iPad Pro cause I had stretched my budget too much and even though the price difference of 3k/4k rs doesn't look much drastic, it was a significant amount for me considering I had gone for 64 GB iPad Air first which comes for 50k and stretched it up to 65k for 256 GB. But now I know I'm going to regret for the next couple years every time my iPad Air fails to satisfy me while doing certain things(Gaming on 60 Hz for example) just because I was too low for 3k rs to purchase a Pro.
@@pratikkakade5039 I can understand your situation. Even I've had this dilemma many times. But just be happy with your decision. Apple iphone 11 retails around 60k in india. For 3k more(with HDFC bank discount) you can get the latest iphone 12 mini. For 5k more from there you can get the 128 gig iphone mini. For 3k more from there you can get iphone 12 regular. You can see where I'm going with this. There is always something new and shiny on the horizon for a little extra. It all depends on how much you can spend at that moment when you decide to buy it. Don't regret your decision, ipad air is still a good device and if this can console you - ipad air being the latest will receive one iPad OS update cycle more than the Pro. Cheers.
That’s why only buy 64gb one if you want more just jump into the pro for almost same money 128gb Got my air 4 64 gb in space grey and it’s amazing, I also have iCloud storage of 200gb so no worries for space , now the air was as addition to my iPhone 12, let’s hope they will last for at least 3 years 👍📲
I just bought one, the 256gb version with the pencil and magic keyboard. I sold my MacBook Air to fund it and I was nervous but the iPad is truly wonderful. Longtime (LONGTIME) Apple user, but this is my first iPad.This thing is absolutely incredible. I go from editing photos to playing games to watching RU-vid and Netflix to drawing in Procreate to typing scripts and papers, to studying, researching and taking notes, to listening to podcasts and music with ease. I’ve only had it a short while, and I’m still getting used to it but so far…I love it! I still have a desktop iMac if I want a full blown “computer”...but haven’t touched it since buying the iPad. I may even end up just hooking up a monitor through USB-C and using a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard and calling it a day. It’s THAT good. I honestly cannot think of a product that has brought me this much joy in many, many years. Thank you for advocating for it and for your wonderful videos. Keep up the great work!
@@theseriousaccount Yeah, they’re only honest mistakes, though especially for a tech channel it wouldn’t hurt to have made sure of all the content before the video goes up
How many people are watching this on their new I pad air like me to feel good about their choice? Feeling pretty darn good about it myself right now. Thanks dad.
It really is a no brainer, get the ipad Air, screw the pro, and use that money you saved to get icloud storage. You really don't need more than 64gb on a tablet, and if you do then you need a laptop.
@@Probanot lol that is definitely the least of your worries, Apple knows the iOS needs to be kept small, iOS14 is only 5gb, you still have 59GB to spare, a 10hr audiobook is 1GB. The LOTR trilogy is 200MB. Space is not a problem for light use on the iPad.
Watch Luke Miani's video "Is the Polycarbonate MacBook still good in 2020?" He gives a brief but helpful tutorial on how to update to Catalina. It worked perfectly for my 2010 Macbook Pro and now it will last even longer.
Hey! I was in the same position as you! I had a Mac book pro I got in middle school back in 2011 and it was showing it’s age years ago. Expanding battery, slow etc. it was a hard decision since I’m the type that thinks “laptops are the only thing I can use since that’s what I’ve had” I also have a iPad mini 2 showing it’s age. I was gonna get the Mac book pro again(or air) but since apple silicon chips are coming this year and intel is going bye bye I’d have to wait.....than wait again for silicon chip to work out its kinks! (Unless I wanted to risk a brand new chip!) So I opted for the iPad Air 2020. Best decision I made. The 12.9 I had ...and returned last year was beautiful but huuuge. Not a one handed device. I don’t do video editing-only light photo editing. Other than that it’s reading, drawing, and Netflix. And this works great. And when I go back to school the notes😍 Truly a different device than the iPad mini - way more like a computer. Haven’t opened my laptop since
Was a tough call for me between the 64 Gb Air vs 256 Gb vs 128 gb. iPad Pro. Ended up getting the 64 gb version and bought a ton of accessories with the money difference : a 240gb external ssd, a usb c hub, a keyboard and mouse, a stand, a case. Feeling pretty good about my choice. Can’t wait for it to get in my hands. Coming from a 2017 iPad, it has been a great experience but I started to feel its limitations
If you can do without a touchscreen the new MacBook Air looks great especially with a claimed battery life of 18 hours. Need to check those reviews to see if hype meets reality. If correct, you wonder if Apple could improve the iPad battery life next.
Love your channel! I am loving my iPad Air 4 256g, magic keyboard an gen 2 pencil combo. I purchased these items based off your recommendations. I purchased to replace my MacBook Pro from 2010. I never used my MacBook Pro 2010 to anywhere near what it was capable of and recently had to start plugging in the MacBook because the battery would drain super fast. I’ve always loved all the different iPad mini but I wanted something like an iPad mini but with a keyboard, so I could take it to work with me as a substitute teacher. I wanted it to be large enough to comfortably teach a class over google classroom/meet. But on the days when teachers assign independent work and I don’t really have anything to do other than to keep the kids on task and safe, I could use my iPad to read, color, or journal. I also love that this combo is so light, portable and easily fits in my backpack/purse. Thanks!
@@dimasgautama8947 I find the 64 gig adequate for my needs since it isn’t my primary computer, but if you can make the step up to the 128 Pro I’m sure that’ll be great too :)
I got the air 4, had it for a few days now, I honestly can say that I absolutely LOVE it. Mind you I'm a college student first so this is mainly for writing down notes and watching lectures and screenshotting the said lecture points if they do not have it online to add to the notes. I also download the pdfs/lecture slides to add to notability with ease and just add a fresh page in between to write down notes if theres no space. The 60hz is no problem for me due to I have never had a tablet before and seeing how smooth the pen writes is great. I'm sure I will keep this around for years, I have to say it's a solid purchase of a chaotic 2020.
Being new to the “Apple Eco-System” I am loving what the company is doing. I think the best set up for me is iPhone 12 64 GB, iPad Air 4 128 GB and Mac Mini M1 16 GB Unified Memory and 256 GB storage. ....at least this is my set up a podcaster and novice photographer. By the way thanks for your comprehensive reviews. I always look for your reviews of Apple products. Keep up the great work.
Your videos absolutely made my mind up on buying a new air over the pro. Iam new to making RU-vid content and I’ve had sooo many issues editing and loading videos. Yesterday I did all of the editing and uploaded on the Air and wow!! Thanks for the help.
Yesterday evening the amazon delivery guy knocked my door with my brand new ipad air 4 256 gigs. I am freaking out, seriously. Thanks for the first videos with the review Gary.
Honestly, I don't agree too much on what you said , obviously everyone has their own idea .... More than performance between the various iPads, the whole reasoning should be based more on storage, let me explain. Without a shadow of a doubt, the 8th generation iPad is the one suitable for those with average use (I guess especially for distance learning for children / teenagers or simply the iPad that is only used at home for the family), but taking into consideration 32gb storage seems a bit absurd by now in 2021, with system updates getting bigger already 1/3 of the space would already be occupied and opting for the only 128gb version is definitely the right choice! But now I would focus more than anything else on iPad Air and iPad Pro, differences yes, but not essential (as you rightly said) but even here, at least for me, it is more a speech to be made regarding storage. 64gb of base in iPad Air are not many and if I have to think a little about the future, in short, a little more storage is always better! (Surely even thinking of not being able to install an application because it takes up too much space seems to me a bit absurd in this era) So the option would go to the 256gb version with the price of 839 €. The 11 "iPad Pro starts at 128gb, the difference between the version of the iPad Air from 256gb and the iPad Pro from 128gb on the question of storage you can very well turn a blind eye in this context. Above all without forgetting that more and more iPad Pro 11 "can be found at 800 € (Amazon, mediaworld etc.) and remembering that iPad Pro has: 6gb of RAM, Promotion and 4 audio speakers (for me 3 big differences that really distinguish it from the Air). After all this "pippone", I hope I have not bored you 😂, for me the best choice if you bet on the air is still the 11 "Pro version for all that reasoning regarding configuration / price. Ps: No criticism of any kind, just my thought (: Pss: Yeah, I just do this comment in an Italian RU-vid channel. Psss: Yeah, I used google translate, the comment is too much long, sorry if english is not correct (: Bye an Italian RU-vid Channel!
@@alexkumskis7430 yeah but honestly, 64gb is too much less. For example, if you think in the future, the sistem iPadOS will be more big and you may choose which app you can download.... not happy😅
@@LucaLabateRU-vidtrust me I agree but if your mainly watching videos on it, I don’t think it matters. I am also going with the 11’ pro 2020 for Christmas. I don’t have the patience to wait for the next model
Incredible information. Thank you for being thorough. Was debating on a macbook air and this. Touch screen is so convenient. I finally made my a decision. You have another sub.
I brought both the air 4 64 gb as well as the ipad 8 gen 128 gb and honestly I love my 8 gen more. From cosmetics point of view air gets extra points+ a better display and processor but does not give value for money as 600$ is way to expensive in comparison to 429$ so my take 8 gen is more productivity based than air 4. Great video btw
My almost 6 year old Air 2 has served me so well, but my charging port is barely working and I have battery depreciation. This is a tricky choice for me, but the Air 4 is on my list.
I think the two things to consider: storage and apple pencil. If either or both then you should go for the pro. TEDD is correct in that 120hz is negligible in most tasks, except for the ones that specifically utilizes the apple pencil.
@@duo2146 I’m dead ! I finally got mine after a whole year. I’ve had my ASUS laptop for 3 years and my god , all it does is google. I had another ASUS laptop for 9-10 years. I thought this year I’ll treat myself .
I'm still rocking an iPad Air 2......yuuuup..aaaand, I'm pushing Keynote presentations through screen sharing and connecting a presentation clicker to it through an adapter to the lightning port! Keep in mind I bought this in 2014.....that's 6.5yrs ago!!! When this guy talks about longevity and that being a key factor in your decision, it's the TRUTH!
Maybe next year I might consider the iPad Air 4. I recently bought my first iPad in the 8th Gen weeks ago and still technically new to the iPad world. Hopefully someone will show me the ropes especially with drawing on the iPad.
I was able to snag 256 gb on sale at the military base for $600 no tax!!! I was set to buy the 11 pro but couldn’t pass the deal up. Hope I don’t regret my decision
Great video. It's definitely helped me to make a decision. Speaking of longevity my mid 2012 MacBook Pro is still going strong for Video editing and photo processing and it's running a Core i5 processor with 16gb Ram and a SSD (so I have upgraded it to the SSD and Ram but at the cost of just £200). I'm still getting updates from Apple 8 years later!
Bought a bare bones gen 8, found that I already needed more memory so returned after 3 days, got the air… It’s rad but I’m not digging the lack of a standard area home button… The button on top(by the camera even([lens clips])-yeah,Biggest bummer… love the usb c. Speed, works well…
The iPad Air absolutely is NOT priced closer to the iPad, it’s actually priced closer to the Pro. Did you even compare the cost of both of them before making such an ignorant comment?
I have a “top of the line” PC that can basically do anything. Was looking for a small laptop to do some work on while I was on the go. Figured a tablet could be a good option because the multi-functionality and price range. Was kinda worried ipad might me limited in features/accessories (i’m used to windows) but from this video it looks like there is a lot of customization that can be done in regards to that. You are convincing me man!
Same here. I bought me a Samsung tab s7 plus . Its amazing and I love it but ipad last way longer than any tablet android out there so I'm debating to return my tab and get this
With the way they price everything it just makes more sense to get a MacBook unless you're drawing or taking notes. Buying a $300 keyboard to make a tablet more like a laptop just doesn't make sense when you can get an actual laptop for around the same price.
I was on the edge of buying the air. But decided on the pro. Better processor and screen and the speakers sold me. Can’t wait to start 4K video editing on lumafusion. Delivery day is tomorrow.
Hello & thank you for this amazing video! What is the video editing app you're using at 01:15? Sorry if that's a super basic question.. I'm a Samsung/Android guy & have no idea what it is. But it looks sleek!
I’m currently a student in college and I bought the 11” iPad Pro 2018 last year for my freshman year. I instantly felt the draw backs of the iPad rather then a computer. My colleges websites and everything was not optimized for iPad. Some things just didn’t work on it. In today world of online school I would make sure all your schools programs work on iPad before you buy. They are great machines and make note taking so much easier and fun. If you already have a laptop and plan to just take notes I recommend the new iPad Air. I never come close to using the full power of my 2018 iPad Pro
@@hkrish26 that would be little bit of an overkill if you’re just a student who wants to take note. It would a tad bit pricey if every student went for the pro. Sure, if you’re rich then by all means get the 12.9” Pro. If you’re out of budget then I suggest you get the normal iPad instead. If you want the best of both worlds and you have more to spend, get the Air.
I’m a student, got the iPad Air 2020 to use un conjunction with my main bulky laptop. I just wrote a 4k words opinion paper last week and I have to say that using the iPad alone gets annoying. For having multiple articles open, looking up new information and typing I was still using my laptop. For reading the articles, the iPad was handy, helped with annotations. But I wonder if anyone can really replace a laptop with an iPad, no matter how Pro they market them nowadays...
Thing is so nice with the magic keyboard I’m obsessed.. just looks and feels soooo nice and way better then i thought.. expensive but its def worth it.. i had the normal iPad 8 gen for a couple weeks and i brought it back to get the air 4 and its a million times better.. screen size.. the look of it.. the picture and sound are way way better just everything and of course it goes with the magic keyboard and moire.. its not just like a laptop it’s BETTER
Do you have a video that talks about “APPLECARE” for these iPads? And if we should choose Wifi or Cellular version? ** Which iPad is recommended for my son who just started his 4 years at University for Psychology? Which GB would be enough? Awesome videos by the way. Super informative and I like your style of reviews 👍🏻 Thank you for any responses.
Great video, as usual. The problem I have is that this device is around 830 dollars for the 64gb version, in Romania. Are price differences common for other parts of the world cause I swear, every time apple launches something banks get broken over here. I get taxation and everything but this is just ridiculous:))). Anyway, love the videos and appreciate the recommendations. I think you convinced everyone on the editing video in 4K on the new air :D
Seriously considering the iPad Air 4, but... I am wondering how the iPad mini 6 will turn out to be, and also thinks it's better to wait for the 5G versions. 🤔
It’s Amazing 🤩 upgraded from iPad 6 32GB 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 got the iPad Air 4 64 GB used about 17 GB 256GB would be wasting money wouldn’t come close to using half that could use a coople more RAM gigs tho because iPhone got that. But also 🧲 on other end I use Velcro to keep iPad from popping off Smart Keyboard.
Would the use of cloud storage on the 64GB air 4 not negate the storage issue? 50gb of cloud storage would surely come out cheaper than upgrading to the more expensive pro/256GB air?
The iPad 7 4G is only 1 yr old and apple has already put out an update to slow it down as they have said it’s a known issue but I’m sure it’s on purpose, what’s to say the IPad Air 4 doesn’t get an update that “happens” to slow it down by their mandatory update or else no longer works.
Now finally got magic keyboard online Walmart for $178 a $10 amfilm papered glass screen protector on Amazon. After 7 months is even better, typing is more enjoyable and the track pad is amazing to use makes it even more worth it, and I like it because its an Apple 🍏ipencil 2 is Amazing
Dear Garry , once again , excellently video. Though it was a bit confusing , because I'm not sure what's better to buy for video editing... I'm a newer in video editing , doing 4 camera layers and some fade in and fade out effect. So , iPad AIR or iPad pro?
Hey Gary, I am wondering the transfer speeds from an external NVMe SSD to the iPad Air. Do you have the numbers? I am in between an Air, Pro or a MBook Air. Main usage would be transferring files when traveling and some video editing.
Thanks for getting me to purchase an Air4. Just found out that a Rampow USB to C plug works with a card reader and speedily put photo's from the Sd card into the iPad. The evening I got the new iPad, I plugged it into my iMac and that's after doing all the sign-in and all apps and the white Apple flashing started. Must have disconnected even though all the software was up to date. Had to hold in the touch button for a good while and then reconnect to the iMac. Let go and the lead was showing on the screen of the pad. Everything got wiped and I had to start all over again.
really helpful vid ty! I'm mostly getting the iPad Air for games in the future and for school, but will it be able to handle games smoothly? I was wondering since I'm not exactly sure if I should get the Pro or the Air specifically! ☺️
Man Gary you keep talking about video editing and gaming and I don't do any of that but I should still get one. Yes other Gary.... Came here to be convinced, my name is also Gary and I feel like it's a sign to just do it 😅
I’m watching this video on my iPad Air... I got it 2 weeks ago and so far, I’ve had an AMAZING experience... it’s crashed once, on Among Us which I was surprised about, but other than that, it’s a really good device :):):)
Still the best option to go for as someone who’s not a “pro” consumer? Not doing things like video or photo editing, graphic design etc? Just going to use it for the everyday things. Internet browsing, social media and as a media consumption device.
watching this video on my new iPad Air haha thanks for all of the videos about it. it really helped me feel like I was making an informed and wise choice
I am so torn. I don’t know if I should get the new iPad Air or wait until March and get the 2021 iPad Pro that should be 5G capable. My main uses would be for streaming TV, gaming and using Quicken. I am a long haul truck driver so I would be able to use the 5G in the bigger cities. Being 5G capable is the only thing that makes me want the pro. What would y’all do?
I would wait. You are one of the extensive situations for this type of product. Pretty much the only person I have told to wait but it should be worth it for you. 5g is a very nice thing to have
I've been agonizing ipad air vs ipad pro for the last 2 weeks. After watching several videos I went with the air. Unless 120hz refresh rate is a must have for you I can't really see any reason to buy the ipad pro right now.
How much does a laminated screen really matter? As other commenters have pointed out, once you go for 256 GB storage, you are very close to the iPad Pro. The cost of the accessories is also very high, especially the Magic Keyboard. All the hype comes down to this: the biggest advantage of the new iPads is the keyboard connector. That exists now on the basic iPad. The USB-C connector, the laminated screen, the reduced bezels with the touch button on the on/off switch, all these are nice-to-haves, but they do not, for me, outweigh the reduced cost of the basic iPad with. 128GB of storage. I write and view screens, the Air is too expensive for that. The Pro is huge overkill. The biggest cost gap is between the basic iPad and the Air. I stumble over that first step.
LOVE my iPad Air 4! Do I wish it had ProMotion? Sure, but I can live without it. I just wished they had a 12.9 version, but other than that, it's a perfect machine.
Would you say this is a good device for someone who runs a small business so document and online work capabilities is a must and possibly getting into blogging and video filming/editing as a compliment to their business? Nothing cinematic but still clean and professional.
I would recommend a MacBook for the online work capabilities as IPadOS is still not up to the point to compare it with a laptop. For a filming and video editing I would suggest the iPad Air or even iPhone 12 if you are willing to. If you are looking to do both with the same device I would go with the pricier iPad Pro which would do very well filming but may struggle a bit while working with some websites.
The issue or difficult decision is which device to buy. For me, iPad Air 64 GB is nonsense in 2020. Now $749 for iPad Air 256 GB? Now begins the game, for that money you almost can get the iPad Pro 2020 11', right? Now, iPad + keyboard + pencil= $1,027 the cheapest Apple combo. Now? We are in MBA territory with the new M1 chip. I won't continue, but you get the point. Basically: you choose iOS vs MacOS, you will spend a lot of money anyways lol Peace
I have 2011 Macbook Pro which is still usable w updated hardware. I debated should I buy new Macbook Air or this Ipad Air. I mostly use for streaming and web surfing purpose.
If you are prepared to pay the money for the 256GB you might as well go for the pro 128GB as the price difference is not much that’s why I went for the 64GB iPad Air 4 the price is fantastic and its almost as good as the pro and you are saving so much money and smashes the mini and the iPad 8 64GB is more then enough for me for what I use it for.
It doesn't come with the pen, no 5G option for connectivity, and if you do add a keyboard and pen it goes up to the same price as an entry level macbook. Tough sell. Not sure why people keep promoting. If it retained its 120hz, yeah I'd get that - but it's clearly lacking in a lot of features they could've added (especially with the new chip)
I got the Ipad Pro 2020 1tb of space. Woop woop. But in saying that it's actually a laptop replacement not an ipad I will just use casually. I've also got a 2018 ipad pro (v1 of pencil) 10.9 inch. which is used for casual use.
I'm not here because I'm deciding what to buy, but convincing myself that what I bought is worth it. I got the iPad air 4 in 256gb and still thinking if I go for the Pro instead. Nevertheless, it was a good decision, the fact that I bought tons of accessories as well. I saved more and get what I need as a student.
Well, i am getting one this month, it should be a pretty good upgrade from my iPad Air 1 (Yes Air 1) that I've been using up to this point. I don't need the M1 pro i will still have to carry a laptop for programming, classes, light gaming etc.
