I’m currently using the iPad Air 5 and I’m really loving it and speaking of iPad Pro well maybe someday in future I might switch it but for now I love the iPad Air 5
Hey After purchasing procreate do we need to buy more things from the app Or we need to purchase every app in ipad Actually I am planing to buy one for my illustration and digital art but i don't have any experience on apple products so please tell me Or suggest me 🥺
i have the Apple iPad Air 10.9" (2020) 4th Generation and yes the layer difference is insane. I just ordered the pro and compared the layer capacity. 3000x3000 pixels (300 dpi) 55 layers on air and 107 on pro. Not to speak of the lag i experience due to having large files. (just create smaller files). That doesn't work unless you like pixelated lineart and art. The air models have much less power in them that it can't handle apps as well as pro models. If you like looking at pixelated stuff while drawing detailed things, go for air.
Thanks for this wonderful explanation. I like that you have all the options in the video and added broll. Nonetheless, I still can't decide as I am new to Procreate and plan to use it mostly for lettering and calligraphy, with a few illustrations here and there. I have relatively large palms, as I am 6'4.
Glad it was helpful! Hm, in that case the iPad Pro 12.9″ would be the best because of the screen size and you shouldn't have trouble holding it in one hand.
Super helpful video and your art is absolutely breathtaking! I wondered how many layers you typically use for a detailed drawing? What storage capacity do you have? I heard when you get a pro with 1TB and above of storage you get access to more layers and under this you get less. I’m really scared of running out!
Thank you 😊 It really depends on the artwork, sometimes I only use few and sometimes more. It depends on the project. I actually explain more in one of my newest Procreate classes. You can find it on my website: artsideoflife.com/drawing-ideas-references-in-procreate/ I have 512GB and pretty happy with it. My first iPad Pro had much less layers and after i upgraded it got much better with layers. I didn't have to be so creative with them :) And yes, it's true 1TB and 2TB models will give you more RAM and thus more layers. I reviewed all the newest models on my website, too artsideoflife.com/procreate/procreate-equipment/
I'm probably going to get the iPad Pro 11". It's significantly cheaper than the 12.9" and I've been using my iPad Air 3rd generation for years now and it's just feeling a bit old. I can afford a new iPad so might as well upgrade. I mostly just want it for art on Procreate, but may use it for video calls and for light video editing (I've got a MacBook if I really want to edit things) so it seems like a decent choice. I don't need the big screen and the lowest storage option on the iPad Pro doesn't seem that much more than the second storage option for the iPad Air, so might as well spend a little more for the pro. I don't need a lot of storage but more than 64GB is nice to know you have I think. I do actually really wish I could get it with the pink casing though. My old iPad and my laptop are rose gold, so settling for silver kind of sucks. It's not something I'm actually factoring in to the decision but its still something I'm disappointed by. It'll be cool to finally try the second generation iPad pencil too because I've been using the original. It works fine but I've heard the second generation pencil is still better.
That’s a great choice. And yeah, the iPad Pro color options are quite limited but you can always get a pink case. I did it like that 😊 and yes Apple pencil 2 is an upgrade, it’s more ergonomic, attaches and charges magnetically and suppoets the newest Procreate features. Enjoy!!
What about 10.2 screen ? Will pro create work on any ipad ? All i want is that app with zoom abilities to do stencil for tattooing.. i want cheapest one for this, which is cheapest option ?
Joseph - see my post about the budget options artsideoflife.com/budget-ipad-for-procreate/ and on iPads compatible with Procreate artsideoflife.com/what-ipad-works-with-procreate/
What would you suggest for a child 11 years old who loves to draw and has expressed becoming an illustrator, but of course I don't want to spend too much in case she decides maybe it's something not for her.
Hey Patricia, yeah, with kids it’s hard bcs their preferences may change quickly. I’d go with refurbished older iPad. Or with iPad 10. Have a look at my list of iPads supporting Procreate on my website: artsideoflife.com/what-ipad-works-with-procreate/
I was looking at the pro because I have the 10.5 inch pro. But now I'm looking at the 13 inch air, if I was going to get a pro again which I want, it would be the 11 inch
Namastey.. This video really help me to clear my vision for IPAD pro & air.. Just one question, Like I want to buy IPAD only because of PROCREATE App. So, I can Experiment my Calligraphy Art & Collage Art. Nothing else. Please help to figure out which one it better for me.. 🍀 - Dhuweel from INDIA
Hi Dhuweel, get iPad Air if you will be making calligraphy and collage art only occasionally. Get iPad Pro if you will plan to create art professionally. Enjoy!
Hello. I wanted to ask you. Do you think you can made a video on the same topic but with iPads air and pro from this year (2024)? What do you think about new Apple Pencil?
Hey thank you for all this information… I have a question. I want to start with procreate. (I can paint with watercolor and pencil) I would prefer a big storage , able to work with procreate dreams and also a little bit of video editing with da vinci. As I am a beginner I dont‘t need to many masks.. and I don‘t need a very big screen. What would you offer?
Glad it was helpful. If you also want to do animation in Procreate Dreams and video editing, then I'd definitely go for iPad Pro. If you don't care about big screen then 11" could work for you very well. See details on my website artsideoflife.com/ipad-pro-11-for-procreate-drawing-and-artists/ and if you enjoy watercolors and pencils already you may enjoy using my custom watercolor and sketching Procreate brushes. You can check them out on my website, too artsideoflife.com/procreate/procreate-brushes/
I bought the iPad Air just to do doodling, I was told this has pressure sensitivity and it was within my price range … does the USB C pen work with tapering in procreate?
Hi, your information is very useful. Greetings, I'm from Indonesia, I'm an illustrator I'm confused about whether to choose the iPad Air 5 256GB or the iPad Pro M2 128GB? Is the refresh rate feature on the iPad Pro really important when drawing?
Hey, happy to hear you found it useful! When it comes to drawing on the iPad Air 5, I really didn't spot any significant changes in refresh rate, especially when comparing it to the Pro 12.9. The most noticeable difference was the screen size. However, if you're torn between the Air 5 and Pro 11, their screen sizes are pretty much the same. My main concern would be with storage; 128GB can feel a bit cramped, especially for animation projects. Also, it's worth considering that Pro models typically get longer iPadOS support compared to the Air 5. Plus, there are rumors that Apple is about to unveil new iPads soon 🔮. Just something to keep in mind!
That's correct. iPad Air 2 doesn't support Apple Pencil ... for the full list of Procreate compatible iPads check out my website artsideoflife.com/what-ipad-works-with-procreate/
And sorry but if you don’t mind me asking, at what age you started drawing? I read that you didn’t start it as a child. I’m older and a beginner and that’s why I’m interested. Thank you 🙂
Hi again! I did draw when I was a child, but professionally I started only as an adult. You can learn more on my about page artsideoflife.com/about/ 😊 I think the age doesn't matter when it comes to creativity. I've run workshops for older artists, and we had a great time learning together. Drawing digitally on the iPad can be enjoyable and rewarding at any age. It's never too late to start, and you'll be amazed at what you can create! I have a lot of classes and tutorials for beginners in my Art Club if you are interested club.artsideoflife.com/art-club Have Fun! ☺️
Hey, if you are deciding btw iPad Air M2 and iPad Air 5, get the new one for sure. Otherwise, depending on your budget, I’d still get the previous gen of iPad Pro. Compare all on my website: artsideoflife.com/best-ipad-for-procreate/#new-ipad-pro-2024-and-ipad-air-2024
Hi, thanks for watching. Glad it was helpful! Yes, if you have been thinking about getting the Air, the newest M2 model is a great choice. It will give you a lot of joy when illustrating and will also last you many years 😊 Have Fun!
iPad Air is fantastic for beginners and offers great value for watching videos, drawing, and music. If you're a professional or need the top-tier features like a smoother ProMotion display, the iPad Pro is worth the investment. Choose based on how seriously you take your art and your budget.
@@artsideoflife I’m not professional tho I want stuff to draw learning how to draw and watching video like movies and stuff and all taking pictures on it too such as stuff I can do on my iPhone 13 Pro Max 😬
@@artsideoflife but my brother girlfriend told me to get the iPad Pro but she been having iPad she had like the older one like gen 5 now she has the pro
Thank you for your video I am a drawing hobbyist on a x2 pen pro 19 inch but with cable computer I cannot keep install permanently so it refrain me to start to install everything. Noe I thought iPad 5 256gb but than iPad Pro 256 is nearly 20ӣ difference so wonder
Hi Riza 😊, I've found a great way to keep my Apple Pencil safe and charged. My iPad cover comes with a special compartment that's not only handy for protection but also supports the pencil's magnetic charging feature. You can check out this cover and other gear I use on my website: artsideoflife.com/best-ipadpro-accessories-for-artists/ Also, if you're using a paper-like screen protector with your Apple Pencil, be aware it can wear down the tip quicker. I've got some useful tips on managing this on my website: artsideoflife.com/how-to-change-apple-pencil-tip/ as well.
So I'm into ui ux designing and into graphic design so should i go with apple ipad air 5 ? Because in my budget i can afford ipad air 5 + the pencil but i cannot afford the pro with pencil. Please tell me ( I'm a freelance graphic designer and ui ux designer )
Thanks - this was very helpful . In an ideal world i would go for IPAD pro 12.9 inch. (lots of storage) Does that mean i need the Apple pencil 2? I have been a windows user all my life so dont know much about this!! Also can I transfer my illustrations from procreate to my windows computer? Can i then use them on greetings cards artwork done in Serif drawplus 8 or page plus or serif Affinity? thank you
Glad I could help, Penny! Yes iPad Pros support either Apple Pencil 2 or Apple Pencil Pro - see the overview on my website artsideoflife.com/best-ipad-stylus-for-procreate/ ... Yes, you can export Procreate illustrations into PSD, PNG, JPEG, TIFF, PDF which are supported by Affinity programs. Best wishes 😊
I am new here iam learning how to animate on procreate and make film projects and animations and art illustrations on procreate I don't know if should get the iPad pro or iPad air what IPad should you recommend me or chooee and i love your art work by the way its so beautiful ❤😊
Thank you 😊 Happy that you like it. If your budget allows for it, for animations I recommend iPad Pro 12.9. I've been playing with Procreate Dreams and the bigger screen definitely helps with the tracks and navigation. Find more in my post artsideoflife.com/best-ipad-for-procreate-dreams/
Hi, this video is so informative. I just had a quick question. Do you recommend I get an Ipad Pro with 128 gb or 256 gb? I want to animate and I wouldnt call myself a beginner artist anymore. Thank you ❤
Hi, glad you find it helpful ☺️ if you want to animate, get 256GB or if your budget allows, 512GB. Animation files are usually quite big, so bigger storage will give you more flexibility. Have fun!
Hi, Yes that should be fine bcs you are just starting out. You could also get an external storage. Here are my recommendations on my website artsideoflife.com/external-hard-drive-for-procreate/ … If you are interested in learning digital art, you may enjoy my classes. I have almost 40 of them on my website too: artsideoflife.com/procreate/procreate-classes/
Hi I use illustration apps for uni as a fashion student Illustrator , photoshop and procreate I’d want to use And potentially a lot of files Never any animation or videos I’m really struggling to decide what to get I can’t spend too much Really looking at 700 max if possible But if it’s worth paying more I will I’ve heard the new iPad Air 2024 is like the pro 2023. But out of all of them what’s best for me!?
Hi Kat, the new iPad Airs have a great price value ratio so they will serve you well. The 2024 Airs are not like the 2022 Pros bcs they dont have the same display, but they are pretty close. And they will be supported by iPadOS updates for a long time. Not sure you will be able to get to 700 with bigger storage but you could always use external disk to back up your illustrations like I wrote about on my website artsideoflife.com/external-hard-drive-for-procreate/
Am a fresher graphic designer and just starting to learn things and thinking of buying an ipad but confuse b/w pro and air can you please recommend one for a bit long term use and with all the features available on tha ipad which one should i get, my budget is little tight for the pro
iPad Air 5 for learning things. Then when you’re a pro get the pro hahaha. Trust me iPad Air now and pro in the future when the pro iPads get better and replace laptops
That’s great. Have fun with it! I made a lot of helpful guides on iPad and Procreate. You can find them on my website artsideoflife.com/procreate/ Refer to Apple Pencils. Enjoy!
Yes, but you need to export it in standard format. I have classes on animation in Procreate and Procreate dreams on my website: artsideoflife.com/procreate/procreate-classes/
I used a translation tool to understand, so I hope I got it all right. It's not about the model but rather the canvas size you are using and whether you are scaling it once you create it in a smaller size. iPad 9 has a small RAM, so you will have a very limited number of your layers available at large canvas sizes. Find more details on my website, linked in the video.
Hi! Apple Pencil 2 magnetically charges on compatible iPads which is really useful! You can read more on my website here artsideoflife.com/apple-pencil-2-vs-apple-pencil-1-for-procreate/
I am a fashion designer and I would like to learn how to sketch my own designs and also learn how to place the fabric patterns I have made on those designs with procreate , which would you suggest for me to get?
Are you thinking of placing your patterns on 3d renders or flat 2d? For professional work and career in design I suggest iPad Pro 12.9 or 11, otherwise the best value is iPad Air. Have fun 🤗
Hi i am willing to buy an ipad for drawing but i have never used procreate or an ipad before. But at the same time I want to keep it for a long term. I might as well use it for studying. What is your best recommendation? And which apple pencil do you recommend and why? I am considering air 4 or air 5 and i also have a budget Thank you
The newest iPad Air sounds like a great choice for your use case - you may consider the iPad Pro 11 as well if you need more storage options. That one will last you many years. I compared the Pro and Air here artsideoflife.com/ipad-pro-vs-ipad-air-for-procreate/
@@artsideoflife I was also looking into this! I am in-between both Ipad Pro11 and IPad Air but does the 256 GB affect the Ipad pro 11 in some way if I also got it 256GB? I am just confused on the storage on that note, because the Air is $650 for 256 GB compared to the Ipad pro 11 it is $750 which one would be better storage wise? The hover over function does not necessarily need to be a priority.
I also love the explanations you do on your website they are able to nail down everything important for someone who draws who is looking into for an Ipad!
@@littleaullet4210 🥰 Glad to hear it was helpful. To your previous question - if your budget allows for it iPad Pro 11 has better technology than iPad Air. The storage only matters if you will be storing a lot of files - artworks, photos, movies, classes, etc. 256GB is a great middle ground when it comes to storage!
Simply get the Air and upgrade to Pro when you become professional with your art, which means you can upgrade using the money you make from selling your art.
