Not only was this video great and what I was looking for, I enjoyed how casual and under produced it is. Most tech videos are so over produced and scripted. This reminds me of early RU-vid days AND is just as informative. Love It. Subscribed!
I think getting a macbook air + an ipad mini would be the best combo. I switched from macbook to an ipad air with magic keyboard and realised it’s still not as great as the proper laptop especially on apps like Microsoft Word and PP, and I hate that the front camera is not in ideal position when doing zoom calls. Also, most of the time, it’s annoying that the ipad will fall backwards because the keyboard itself is not sturdy enough to support the ipad especially when you’re using it on bed or in your lap. But I love the versatility of the ipad though and I love it for note-taking, manga and ebooks. Battery wise, I have to charge the ipad everyday when doing casual work but with my macbook before, it could last 2- 3 days. And if I wasn’t using it everyday, the standby battery life will last even longer.
My original iPad is second generation so I waited a bit to upgrade. My original still works ru-vid.comUgkxUGaHtKW8MwCql2fPyIm9-ftTqSMzKFFA , but the battery is bad and won't stay charged so it always has to be plugged into a power source. The new 10th generation was a great bargain for Prime Day that I couldn't pass up. It was easy enough to set up: everything came down from iCloud with no issues.
I got an Apple refurbished Mac Mini M1 plus an Apple refurbished iPad Pro 2018 with Logitech Slim Folio Pro keyboard case (Amazon "used-like new") all for about the same cost of a new Macbook Air. This combo gives me the best of both worlds; a powerful desktop computer in my office for pro work (video editing) and a very functional portable computer when I am away from home. Plus the iPad is a great desktop companion for the Mac Mini using universal control or as an extended monitor.
Great comparison, and exactly what I needed to finally decide on which way to go. For me - the possibility to use the Macbook Air with an external monitor tipped it in favor of the Macbook. Great video - no frills and to the point. Thanks!
Agree with everything except note taking. Writing is definitely better on the Mac and I agree there’s something about writing on an iPad that just seems sweet but for note taking (I know they were in the same category but they shouldn’t be in my opinion) I think the iPad wins. Just being able to take your pencil and iPad and fire up GoodNotes/notability is another level.
This video was really informative & help me make up my mind which device is better for me personally. In my opinion you missed out what probably is the most important subject for many people especially these days & that is Security which device is using touch ID of Face ID because everyone has their own preference of which their prefer!! & think is better safer ect ect !
Great comparison! Purchased an entry level M1 MacBook Air to help kick off my RU-vid channel. The battery is stellar, editing videos is a breeze and learning the MacOS is fairly easy, coming from windows my entire life. Been following mobilesyrup since Daniel Bader days convincing me to get the Nexus 4 😂
You can turn your ipad into laptop by using magic keyboard especially with the new OS update, but you can't turn your laptop into ipad, like touching screen ,using pencil for taking notes, games, easy to carry. But the fact is the ipad can't do the heavy works like professional final cut and word.....etc So why no one says all that features in ipad and different of mac
the macbook definitely seems a lot easier to be productive for anyone with a job or anything more than watching videos. I def find the macbook air heavy tho and its hella expensive

Really I wanted to hear that an iPad Air would be robust enough for the ways that I will use it but still good enough for my work related tasks (not hardcore photo or video editing). I am not at the store yet but I think I will opt for the iPad Air to replace my old Macbook Air (2012).
imagine using a full keyboard on the ipad by connecting it vía bluetooth. why would you buy the folio keyboard case?? the ipad would win over the macbook air
its much easier and faster to get work done on a macbook. It would be hard to write a paper or say write a book on an ipad. Maybe thats just me though.
The gaming point should have gone for the Mac, there’s Crossover and Parallels on the Mac to make up for the lack of native games, and you have a lot more options for cloud gaming with a controller

Was looking to replace my 2016 15 inch Macbook Pro which I use as a travel laptop when not working on the desktop Completely forgot how limiting dual-display on iPad and how terrible it would be for photo and video work. On that the try to keep the camera in manual focus if you are using fuji, it was a bit nauseating to watch with jello-like jitter from the digital stabilization and constant out of focus. For your setup, in the a-roll, you really don't need a high f-stop so closing the down the aperture a little if you want to be on the safe side and just keeping it in the manual would work much better for overall video quality. Keep it up, always use the site for news and just stumbled on the youtube channel!
Good comparison! One thing I disagree with: making hand-written (pencil) notes is for me an asset of the ipad, not for the macbook air. That would make me switch to the ipad, together with my needs for reading and a bit of drawing.
i got the ipad air 4 last year but im thinking of trading it in for a macbook air... you thin thats a good idea? i mainly use ipad now for watching videos
Is iPad Air not suitable for doing office work ? Like excel and data entry work .and all the other photo /video editing software's on it have very limited functionality?

Hello, I'd like to ask your opinion. I already owned a Macbook Air M1 and I'm planning to get an Ipad Air 5 as a secondary device but I'm contemplating on which storage to choose. I'm just a student who wanted to use Goodnotes and anything related to my studies. I'm not sure how much storage I should get. What do you think?
Hmmm, I think if it’s a secondary device you can probably get away with 64GB, but if you want to store a lot of music and photos and games the larger storage is prob worth it.
get 64GB its more than enough for normal use, a lot is in the Cloud so dont waste that much money for the 256GB. Also you can get an external SSD for 50-100$ abd youll be ablbe to use it with ur Macbook AND the iPad
I think 64gbs is fine, you can easily aidrop stuff to your MacBook and store them there once you don't need them anymore, or upload them to cloud. Goodnotes and PDFs alone won't take that much space
For me that blue looks more DARK BLUE in the unboxing videos then in apples presentation. I’m rly tempted to go for blue iPad but I hate Touch ID. And the fact that it has no 128gb option. If this iPad had 128/Face ID/120gh display I’m going for it. But I can’t go bcs I love Face ID so that’s why I’m going with iPad Pro
Dont agree your point in gaming. Yes, both of the devices sucks when it comes to gaming that has limited triple A titles but gotta be honest Mac supports more visually beautiful actual console games because it is an actual computer, iPad runs on mobileish software. Besides it also supports some mobile games on it. I can play Hitman, Dying Light, Dirt 4, Mafia 3 natively on Macbook air M1 and smooth GTA V gameplay through Crossover and the latest Resident Evil soon. Those titles wont see iPad soon , most likely 95 percent never
Hello, I'm stuck between ipad air 5 / ipad 10th generation (logitech keyboard + apple pencil 1) or macbook air m1, both of which correspond to 25k. The results have not been announced yet, but the departments I want are law or psychology. I have collected a solid safe at home, I don't have a laptop or iPad other than that, and I can't take the safe and work with it. Which one do you think I should buy, everyone says ipad is more comfortable, they say there is no cost of copying in terms of presentation and working (as far as I have read from videos and forums) and this photocopying thing confuses me about macbook. Also, I am too involved with computers since I was 5 years old and I can write too fast, but I have no idea if I have difficulty in handwriting with mechanical writing. In fact, both are absolutely necessary, but we do not have that much, although we do not have them, but I will try to take them into account because it is important.
