Got my blue one yesterday and it is still my favorite iPad. I will never purchase another larger model again. I was out of storage with the 64 gb, and I desperately needed the 128 gb. The one disappointment was still having the 60 hz. Seriously Apple, this was a no brainer and because of that I think they should have called it the iPad Mini 7, not A17 Pro. IMO, without the 120 hz, it isn't a pro model. Good job, Brandon, thanks.
I upgraded / traded in my mini 6 yesterday for the iPad mini (A17 Pro) 256 gb, plus cellular and I am not disappointed. I used the mini 6 as my main computer and the A17 Pro Mini will continue to be my main computer for the foreseeable future. The mini is great for trips, tooling about the city, chilling out at a coffee shop etc. I have been running the 18.1 Beta and found no issues, the mini doesn’t get warm so far as the mini 6 did. All in all the A17 Pro Mini I feel will be just right until the next upgrade, or Apple introduces an iFoldable.
Are you happy with the 60htz , non oled display and the barely fixed jelly scrolling? What about the a17 pro which is last year I phone 15 pro chipset. It is equivalent to snapdragon 8 gen 3 which is not a computer level performing processor. Do you think at least they should have provided a18 pro or m2 with mini7. Can you use final cut pro in that form factor?
Just wondering, why didn’t you choose 11 inch I pad air/ pro? I think you will have a much better experience with them considering if you are using iPad mini as you main computer and also desire portability.
@@kamda환인 guys simply tryin to justify his regrettable purchase !! ipadmini doesn't meant to be used as computer whatsoever even those pro ipads barely be used as one as its software locked from running PC apps and not to mention that outdated a17 that almost caused heatgate with previous iPhone as apple still has some of em in their stock so they've decided to put em in these ipads and calling it a day lol
Guys, it is his choice to use the iPad mini as a computer and it’s cheaper than most iPad/laptop, it could still be used as a computer because of the new keyboard it provides, it’s just a little small like if you want to have a portable iPad, this is the choice for you as it is small and provides the same power ( or more ) from the iPhone 15 pro max and plus, why are you guys caring about the LCDs and the OLED, it is a different screen, i know, it is just about the polarizing and the lighting nit, it is just like literally, mostly going to use it inside not outdoors anyway so the mini 7 is actually good as the new AI it provides ( which is the apple intelligence ), so it is good enough to have a iPad mini 7 to be your computer, also having cellular network is actually the best for working like in metros, buses and pretty much everywhere.
Got mine yesterday and I can't stop using it. I think I use it more than my phone now. No regrets downgrading from Ipad pro 11. This thing is so light. Unfortunately, there is still jelly scrolling but only if you really look for it. It doesnt really bother me.
Hi, I currently own an iPad Pro 11 First Gen and I'm 90% certain to get a Mini 7 next month, I'll trade in my Pro 11 for it. Just wondering how you found downgrading from a pro 11, what should I consider? I travel a lot and go on motorcycle road trips often so I think the mini might be perfect for me.
@@alatorreluis i have had my ipad pro 11 inch for years, and I seldom used it because it was not comfortable for me to use while sitting, standing, or even while lying down in bed. It is also too big for me bring it out to work since I still have to bring my macbook with me. Sorry but ipadOS can’t completely replace macOS. I am not a creative so I only used it for media consumption, playing some mobile games, and as a digital notebook. And because it is too big and slightly heavy, i almost always used my phone for the first two purposes. I had the chance to borrow an M4 ipad pro last week and even though it is slightly lighter than my previous one, it still does not feel good. Since I got my ipad Mini, I’ve been watching videos, writing notes and playing games even while walking around the house. It doesn’t strain my hands and arms even after long usage. Portability is really the only reason I got the new iPad Mini. I tried playing some games like Genshin, ZZZ, WuWa, and Pubg, and it does not disappoint. It is worth the downgrade for my personal use case.
@@5AMMotorcycles it was awesome i can’t stop using this thing. I’ve been watching videos, playing some games, and writing notes all day. It is convenient to use even if you walk around the house a lot since it is really light. I dont think I have picked up my phone that much for the past two days because I use the Mini for facetime and iMessage too. The battery life is awesome. It can last the whole day of continuous usage unless you are gaming ofcourse, even my previous ipad pro does not last that long while gaming. I travel light too. That’s why the ipad pro was so inconvenient for me. If you really do not need the extra screen real estate and the extra power of M chip, i suggest going for the Mini. Also, if you’re coming from a first gen iPad pro, I don’t think you’re actually downgrading in terms of performance. You’re only downgrading on screen size.
I'm currently on a mini 5, it's done genuinely incredibly for 5 years, it's just starting to show signs of slowing down, especially since iOS 17 with the lockscreen stuff and iOS 18 in general. If the upgrade from 6 to 7 is as impressive as you say it is, then i have no doubt the 5 to the 7 is a whole new level! Was very much looking forward to this video and i am not disappointed! :D
Yes, that will be a great upgrade from the mini 5! Especially if you value things like Apple Intelligence, extra RAM/memory, document scanning, and gaming!
Same here actually. I also have a mini 5 and like you said it is just starting to show signs of slowing down, especially with the new software updates from iPadOS 17 and 18. I also agreed that it did incredibly well holding up for five years because some devices actually starts slowing down way before then.
Just got mine and I’m already enjoying it thoroughly. Never had an iPad before today. Didn’t want the Pro, the Air was too big, this was the perfect form factor for me.
I had the iPad Mini 2 way back when. I absolutely loved its form factor. I have the M1 Air now and I’m genuinely considering trading it in on the new Mini. I don’t use it anywhere close to its full potential and I feel like I’ll be happier with the Mini.
Hey man. It'd be a good idea to blur out the serial numbers on the back of the ipads :) some folks could use them potentially to scam people by selling a fake ipad mini with those serial numbers Also the IMEIs in the scans 5:35 love your videos btw
I am an Apple Addict. I have the mini 6 and the only way I know about "jelly scrolling" is because I've heard so much about it. Otherwise I would have never noticed.
@@Hhhh22222-w I'm going off topic, but you need some history lessons, buddy!!! You forgot what happened for the past 200 years before that!!! then you'll know once you come across history how the whole Western world that we know today was created in the first place!!! As you were talking about innovation then let me break it down to you as we were quite literally building monuments and megaliths while the entire western world were hunting mamooths and sabertooths and barely made inventions to make fire from scratching rocks !!!! 👊
Upgraded from the 2019 5th Gen. Got myself a case, but still not sure if I’ll get a Pencil. Went with the base storage and the darkest colour - not a fan of pastels. Looking forward to trying the AI when it gets released in the UK. Thanks for the content.
Grabbed it while my resell value on my iPad mini 6 was still decent. Solely grabbed in anticipation of Apple Intelligence. Plus I also had a $180 credit from trading in my old iMac years back. So that made the new mini super affordable. Love my iPad Mini. I hope they don’t end of life it ever b/c I’m a long time fan.
I’ve been a fan of iPad mini since gen 1. Been upgrading by skipping a generation until from 5 to 6 because there were lots of upgrade. For now, I’m gonna skip the 7 and wait for the 8. Not enough reasons for me to upgrade.
The “jelly scroll” is not due to different refresh rate on the sides of the screen: both are 60 Hz. Is due to the delay between the far points of each ranges with respect to the closest pixels to the controller, when scrolling. Or the opposite, depending on which order (far to close or close to far) of refreshing is using the controller, they are two of them one on the vertical side and the other on the horizontal side. You can see it also in other 60 Hz iPads, depending on how fast is the controller and the screen response. The Apple Watch Ultra shows also same effect
I know this might not make sense to some, but I think giving your old device to a family member is a much better way to get rid of your old device. Yea, you lose a couple hundred dollars, but they will appreciate a device like a mini6 so so much
Don’t know why everyone is whining about how it’s the design as last, this applies to iPhones too. It’s a good design they don’t need to radically change it just to be different
Thank you! I’m not complaining at all about the form factor or the fact that it uses the same shell/body as the last mini. I’m a fan of the shell/body so I don’t need a redial redesign, just for the individual components (screen, speakers, and battery) to improve
The person who buys the iPad mini is likely to be the one who has an iPhone and a MacBook. They don't need a big tablet because they have a MacBook. The iPad mini, which is only 7% of Apple tablet sales, is not an important lineup for Apple, and there will be no new iPad mini release for at least two years. Because of this, iPad mini can be discontinued at any time. Except for the still 60Hz LCD, +35% CPU & GPU, 8GB RAM, 128GB storage, Wifi 6GHz, USB 3.2Gen2 is an overall upgrade. Note: A18pro has better performance than M1, CPU performance is 10% higher than A17pro, and GPU performance is 20% higher. In other words, the performance of the iPad mini 7 is about 90% of the M1. Personal opinion: In a year, the iPad Air will be increased by $200 with OLED, and in 2-3 years, the iPad Mini will be increased by 200 dollars with OLED.
I got iPad mini 7 and so far I like it. I had £100 knocked off price so it was £400. I never owned iPad before but i don't think nothing wrong with it so far. My last tablet was Samsung S6 lite but iPad seems alot faster and better than that and was about £100 more.
I had the mini 6. I picked up the mini 7 yesterday. I had the base 64 gig model and wanted more storage. The 7 comes with 128 gig base, double ram, faster processor and all for the same price as the 6, sign me up. Also, i traded my 6 into BestBuy for $260 reducing my out of pocket cost…I figured this value will only get lower so might as well do it now! Disappointed i had to upgrade to the pencil pro, but i guess i would have bought it eventually.
Yes, me too. 500 nits brightness, 60hz refresh, in 2024 .... no thanks! If Apple had given us a 1000 nits and 90hz refresh rate, that would have been a decent compromise. But, alas .......
I have the mini 6 and it’s not worth the upgrade since it’s the same old display. I think anyone who wants an iPad mini, should look into getting the 6th generation, they’re almost the same as the new one, and they’re not cheaper.
@@Richard.Cabeza it's the opposite, they are literally saying its just the previous mini but with a new chip, ofc laymen wont know but you can ask at the store
I have a 128 gig mini 4. People spent 499.00 for a mini 6 with 64 gig. There was a 150.00 difference between that and 256 gig. On the new I pad there is a 100.00 difference. I am going to buy the 256 gig as I plan to have this iPad a long time. My 128 gig mini 4 lasted 9 years. With AI, you don't know how much memory the other apps are going to eat up so you are covered in that regard. Oh and for the people who don't think this tablet is a seller, Amazon in UK sold out of Wi-Fi only versions, then though the UK customers are denied a plug with their purchase!
@@BrandonButch, but AirPods maxes were not advertised as a new gen, they were just “refreshed” cuz of the eu laws to replace lightning with usb C. iPad mini, on the other hand, was an upgrade, which even says in its name (a17pro), but it’s so minor, they could’ve at least made the screen pro motion for games
@@Saypov This isn't a pro device, it'll likely never get ProMotion. That's what the iPad Pro is in the lineup for. I do think it’ll get OLED next, though
I just bought this one and I didn’t have one before but this is a good comparison. I have the iPad Pro 12.9 in from 2022 and wanted the mini more for games. I use my pro for creating my thumbnails, school work and watching movies/youtube.
The US price normally is before tax, hence the difference. Still a difference after adding tax to the US price, but a lot less than it initially seems.
The Pencil Pro will not sync with “find my pencil” on my new mini (A17 Pro). All the other functions of the pencil perform normally. The people at the Apple Store went over it with a fine toothed comb and could not figure out what is wrong. They even replaced the pencil and that did not solve the problem. It may be a software problem that could be fixed with a future update. Anyone else have this problem?
It's good with the minor upgrades, but to have a tablet at this price point and theoretically use it for the next 2 to 3 years and still run on a 60hz display is sort of a dealbreaker for many. That being said, it's still a good-sized tablet.
I have the Mini 6 and am thinking of upgrading to the Mini 7. Do you know if cases for the 6 will fit on the 7? It looks as though they have the same exact dimensions, but I didn't want to have to buy a new case for the 7 if possible.
@@SirMopy scrolling animation is feels choopy and clunky to use eitherway and jelly issue is a main cause for that !! iPados is presumably optimiused and designed for bigger screen size thus the sizes of apps and icons feel so misplaced in ipadmini
Brandon, I'm going to be honest. I was waiting and waiting for the ipad mini 7, but I have now decided to go back to samsung for my tab use case. I'm going to be riding out a samsung galaxy S9 Tab for now. Wayyyyyy bettttterrrr in terms of OS, design, bang for your buck, and microsd card slot -> more bang for your buck. 😊
I have no iPad Mini at the moment, but still deciding. It's a great device for note taking for my use case and watching videos. The document scanning also seems appealing. Honestly, I don't mind the 60Hz.
If it's your first iPad mini then you should get it. If you have the 6th generation then there's not much difference so avoid. And this year its cheaper and has more RAM and storage, and an upgraded chip.
Still 500 nits? That’s bad engineering! Bezel around the screen still to big. Apple should go Pro with this mini and launch a SE as well. Aka a slightly higher price for he Pro. And lots less for the mini SE.
Yep. Considering the Mini is the one iPad that many of us take with us on the go. And using it outdoor for maps and info, when traveling, means that owners will still struggle with this. 1000 nits would have been acceptable.
It’s more then 10 years ago Apple launched the mini. And upon till today it still has a 500 nits screen. That really s*cks! This means you still cannot take it outside on a bright or sunny day. After 12 years no progression here. That’s bad engineering!
yup... exactly THIS! and it's the only issue i have with my mini 6. i don't need a 120hz screen.... i'll take it when it's like 1000nits and comes with 120hz, ok nice topping on the cake.
Is anyone else holding hope they've got a pro mini coming, or something? It's just interesting they went with "iPad Mini A17 Pro", rather than "iPad mini 7th generation". Makes it seem like there could be others sitting alongside it...?!
Don't upgrade. I bought the new one and it overheated to the point where I couldn't even hold it in my hand. I returned it and got a new one and that one overheated too, so I returned it and giving up on this new Mini.
I did the same thing. With a trade of the base to the new base it’s worth it. It’s not worth a $499 purchase though. With that being said I don’t believe Apple ever called this an iPad mini 7. It’s an upgrade to the iPad mini solely to make it fully compatible with Apple AI. Really very little more besides a few quality of life upgrades. It’s not a new gen. It’s a spec bump for the current gen. I bet a new one comes out in a year maybe 2 max. No way another 3 year wait.
Does it work with the apple pencil 2? If not, it’s really a shame.. You would have to upgrade to the pencil pro (which is a lot of money and most people don’t need the upgrade) or downgrade to the pencil 1…
3:32 that is the spot that any iPad mini that's going to bend will bend there. Also, I find it coincidentally deceptive to change the name from iPad mini (x) to iPad mini (A17PRO). It gives the impression it's a "Pro" version. All the other upgrades (WiFi, BlueTooth, RAM, SSD, USB-C 10Gb/s, etc). No need for 120hz or OLED, that may come out as a real "Pro" version and with increased pricing. The Mini is a good form factor for me, the 11" is too big for everyday use.
Im using ipad mini 5 now. Im sceptical, should i buy ipad mini 7 or ipad air 11 M2. Since M2 much more powerful and future proof longer. Or just wait for upcoming Apple event🧐. Thank you for the detail comparison.
I have an iPadMini 4 running on iPadOS 15.8.3! it is very slow now, it doesn’t get iPadOS updates that much anymore… I’m thinking on upgrading this 9 year old iPad Mini to the new one, but stumped between the new iPad with A14, or this A17Pro with the mini…
@@BrandonButch I watched it, and almost didn't post my comment - I was just responding to your comment where you asked if any other content creators showed video proof.
Attraction: A17 Pro raytracing etc; Apple Pencil Pro; USB 3.1 gen 2; 8GB memory; iPadOS vs 18.1; Apple i (even though i trust none); Bluetooth 5.3; wifi 6e; priced advantage to doubled storage compared to 6th gen iPad mini; trade-in could knock do this $749 - 249 = $500 for wifi cellular with 256GB. and my 6th gen battery health 79% not worth battery replacement? My resistance: no SIM tray,
Watching on my 7 and I love it, I can’t compare it to any others as it’s my first but I definitely prefer it to my 2018 Pro with Magic Keyboard in terms of weight. For my needs it’s perfect, I can definitely tell the difference with the display but the only game I play on it is Clash Royale and there’s zero difference with that. I wanted AI but didn’t want to ditch my 13 PM as I prefer there notch and love the phone so this I’d the gets me what I want.
60hz is a deal breaker for an iPad that's gonna be used for gaming. They could have atleast put 90hz on this mini. That's sad. Better get the Ipad Air M2 2024. I have the mini 6 and with minimal upgrade, I don't think it's worth it
I have not been impressed with the mini 6. Like the size, don’t like the under performance. It wasn’t worth $500.00. I don’t see a compelling reason to flip to the mini 7. Seems to be Apple going through the motions, without major substantive improvements. And, I am an Apple person.
The problem aint ipad mini 7 tbh it's just that mini 6 was already extremely good so if they wanted to launch it they should've given it something better let that be another thing but ipad air m2 is just 100 bucks more yes mini tablets are something else but you get far better things at that price people wanted apple to give it oled or 90 hz cuz apple is the only brand stuck with 60 hz and even lcd at that price
