Your open mind that let give yourself a try to e-books and find its usefulness is a wonderful example to many people out there who resist to new technology alternative and are so close-minded that even write article in newspapers against e-books.
Rich, I have been through 16 years of our educational system plus 2 years of occupational training. In all that time I have never come across a better educator than you. Thank you for your calm and patient demeanor.
Rich, I tried that... I think my file is corrupted, I couldn't load ebooks on my Kindle Fire either...but yet, I can read the ebooks on my 10 yr old PC!, thanks for your help...I learned alot from your instuctions on RU-vid about the iPad...JB
Rich, thanks for speaking in a normal cadence. I really enjoyed this video and found it very helpful. I recently bought a series of books from a company called ebooks, but have been unable to read it in Apple Books. The other company’s reader does not have the features that Books does. How do I import (?) these books so I can read them in Books? Thanks for your help. You now have a new subscriber .
So helpful. I’ve been intimidated by the books app forever. Now I have a better understanding of how to navigate, search, and more. I’ve purchased many books outside of the books app, but they reside there for reading. I might give the bookstore another try.
How do I import into the book app full books in pdf format I encounter online during browsing? For example, ph.d these. Currently, I just save them in a folder. Thanks, Nissim
Thank you for the video on apple books. One comment/question: I just bought a 3 book bundle (audiobooks) and what I got was a huge 197 chapter book that starts with the first book and ends with the last. No individual book sections. No way (that I know of) to separate out each of the books. I wanted to start with the middle book, but can't even find where it is? Very frustrating.
As someone who has macular degeneration in both eyes, reading from my iPad Pro is a necessity. While I regularly buy from Kindle, and audio books from various sources, I’m appreciative for your video on Apple Books. I look forward to perhaps using it and expanding my library. I also look forward to other, more in-depth, videos you may upload to You Tube.
do you know how to fix ibooks when browsing paid books is not an option. in the browse sections tab, it only shows 'fiction and literature' and 'non-fiction', nothings else. I also can only read free books.
My iPad Air 4 with the latest update (17.2) does not display controls this way. I have to press on the lower right corner to bring up a menu that shows Contents (hamburger icon), Bookmarks & Highlights, Search Book, Themes & Settings aA. It was very frustrating to discover these changes! I watched a video about how to set iBooks to be read aloud using Accessibility settings. I was supposed to be able to start the oral reading by swiping 2 fingers down from the top of the screen, but that is not working, either.
Excellent video showing the highlights of the Apple Books app. I've only had Apple products since early June of 2022 so I'm still learning about them! The Apple Books app is *excellent* and I am very thankful you opened my eyes to it, Rich!
Hey Steven! You're welcome. I've been thinking about all your recent comments and it got me to wondering about making an "Apple eco system" video where I take a look at how Apple products work together. What do you think?
Hello. Great video! Just wondering if anyone would be able to help me with something. When I open the Books app, I don't have an option to look at the Bookstore, Reading Now or Audiobooks. I've contacted Apple support multiple times but they're not helping me at all. I've seriously tried everything. If anyone has a tip they think would be helpful, I'd really appreciate it.
Great tips Rich. I am currently using iPadOS 16.1.1. In Books, I can no longer turn pages and am limited to scrolling which I don't like. I also can't change orientation to two page display in landscape view. Did Apple take this function away in 16? Any solution you know of.
I have a London guidebook (lonely planet) I am reading just now. I have made my comments by “drawing” with my Apple Pencil. Then I have shared (collaborate) with my wife for her to to make her own comments. When I am the next day opens the book, I can’t see her comments. Why? It doesn’t look like the share (collaborate) function is work the same way as sharing a document og Dropbox or iCloud. Could you please investigate a little in this and make a video? I haven’t figured out how to get this working. I think when I have the collaborate function it is obvious that it should be possible.
The only thing you didn’t cover is how to return to the beginning of the book, I like to read a book several times and getting to page one again is a complete mystery to me,at the moment I go back page by page which is very laborious
I still use my library card on my iPad. This way I can use cards from different libraries. You can keep them for 21 days, or return early. I use the Libby application, all free.
My Books app does not have a hamburger or any other navigation aid. I have to scroll forward and backwards page by page. I have an up to date iOS. I am reading a lonely planet epub travel guide. If I tap on a highlihated link for example, it will jump to it. However I can't get to the table of contents without scrolling page by page. Help
Rich, , Yes l would love to have a more detailed videos on “Books”. One thing I would like to find out is in Apple Books,do you know if it’s possible to read an E-Book and listen to an audible book at the same time in the app? I often buy the matching audible book that I am physically reading and listen along wile I’m reading. I’m wondering if it is possible with an e-book, that way you don’t have to carry a physical book around with you.
Great suggestion. I'm thinking of going back over a number of topics I've covered in the past and making more "advanced" videos. I'll add Books to the list. Thanks for watching!
I would like to know how to download books from windows PC to ipad? I have a collectioon of books from a Kindle format and would like to read them in my iPad...JB
I'm pretty sure you can install the Kindle App from the App Store. Then just log in to your Kindle account and your books will be there! Hope this helps!
There's a complicated way to move the books over - too much for this reply. You can just download the Kindle app from the App Store and read your Amazon books on your iPad using the Kindle App. Hope this helps!
I wish I could read my book I purchased on iTunes Store…but I can’t the iBook keep crashing either after 30 sec or on book loading, which frustrates me to no end. I usually read during break and lunch break but now I have to go on internet to read other then the books I have purchased. So anyone else have this issue?? I tryed those methods propose by company and others yet it fail to succeed in the task. Sorry for venting a bit of frustration but I had to ask
Richard R. I just viewed your video on Apple books. I have an iPad and being a senior, senior I would like to know in your opinion if it's more cost effective to use Amazon Kindle or Apple books to make purchases? Is one better than the other? Thank you. Richard
You know, I like the Kindle. I almost bought the newest version last fall. I think it's a great product. But in the end, I use my iPad for a lot of different things, and using it to read books just makes sense. My own experience is that the cost of books is not much different between a Kindle and an iPad. Thanks so much for watching!
Rich, Thank you for your reply. I watched your Apple book digital video again and I think that's the way I'm going to go. I like the idea that I can sample free books to get comfortable with the system before buying. One last question, your video was with the black background which I find hard on my eyes, how would I set up books to read with a white background and black print? Thank you, Richard R
@@richardrosenblum728 I'm not Rich, but I'll answer on his behalf. You can set the Books app to always show white pages, always show dark pages (for us night readers), to use a muted amber page colour, or to automatically switch to "dark mode" after sundown.
I think Apple did away with the shelf. On my iPad I just have a picture of the book cover. I kind of liked the shelf too. But I'm used to the new look now. Thanks for watching!
When you add a payment method you're simply providing a way for Apple to charge you when you buy a book. You should be able to see and buy any book in Apple Books.
Since I’ve owned Apple, they’ve had select text to speech and it’s never worked properly in iBooks ever the app crashes or just goes extremely slow and it’s utterly pointless to use. Why is it something so simple they can’t get to work properly for what 16 years now. When I disconnect from the Internet put an airplane mode the text to speech in iBooks works slightly better, but still crashes the app why is this is it out of stupidity or just plain laziness? Also, why does every other book PDF reading app don’t have options to select texts to speech. They will just select all of the text and start randomly reading from the beginning of the page and that’s including text that doesn’t exist.
You know, I've never tried the text to speech thing. I always just read the books. I'll give this try and see what happens. I can say there are a lot of half-baked features that go nowhere. Apple is usually pretty good about this stuff, but sometimes there are issues that NEVER get fixed and are just unexplainable. Anyway, thanks so much for watching and commenting. Maybe some of my other videos will be helpful.
You can download books to your iPad. If you've downloaded a book, it'll show up under "Downloaded" in the side bar in your library. Tap on that and the books you've downloaded will be there. You can read them when off-line. Hope this helps!
