This video is just for fun to see how far the portrait mode has come. *iPhone images have no editing and A7iii images just had exposure adjustments*. I was surprised that they both had similar AWB. A lot of the bokeh issues can be fixed by using an APP called Focos. Check it out! I will probably make a video on it.

I was looking at a comparison of photos (with same subject) from the OG iPhone to the 11 Pro and it’s insane how far it’s improved. And the original iPhone camera was so much better than the other phones of the time, or at least what I had.

Ummmm... check your eyes. Check other RU-vid videos comparing iPhone to other cameras. iPhone is absolute crap at human faces. The HDR lifts shadows wayyy to much. This makes faces flat and orange on iPhone XS and iPhone 11. It’s the worst camera I have ever seen for a phone.

D SoHiDef i have an 11 pro max and used high end dslrs. I’ve taken photos with a 7+ that looked amazing with lightroom. Photos blown up on print one thing but at this point phones are a threat. If iphone is 1k and dslr is 3k are the dslr’s 3x better? Probably not. I took a few pics for instructions and got DM’s asking what DSLR was used. These people use high end cameras. Proof enough for me that cameras are catching up. I just wish iphone had better zoom

youv never had a DSLR..the sharpness and contrast from a DSLR or mirrorless , you cannt compare it to any phone . I have an iphone 11 but still have a mirrorless but a DSLR photos are way ahead by over 100. night photos , portrait, day time .whatever

I'm a Sony shooter and I noticed that too. The iPhone shoots looked perfectly acceptable to share on social media and for memories. If you're shooting for a portfolio then obviously use the Sony.

Given the price of the iPhone 11 pro he didn't need to justify anything. Anyone with a proper camera knows that special moments are captured better with a camera. The iPhone/Samsung/Huawei images look crisp, sharp, saturated etc. But upon closer inspecting... They look fake too.. fake bokeh, oversharpened, smudgy details when lights go out etc. Above all, they're flat...

@@louisebijnens5220 each phone has got it's pros and cons. iPhone camera works in a way that it still creates watercolor painting like images, eg when looking at trees etc. The colors seem to be more natural though bit warm, but it's okay. Still... No comparison to a proper camera. No matter what phone, you get either flat images, or wannabee fake bokeh. They're meant for instant shots and somehow people think they can compete with cameras like the one in the vid. They can't

@@meritosagie4394 actually DSLR are not going forward lmao... my very old d7000 have 99% the same quality of my new a6400. They only improve autofocus in all those years but actual quality is the same. Now look a phone of the same year of the d7000 and a 2019 flagship smartphone. It's mind blowing how much they improve and camera company need to wake up. They need to start incorporating those computer IA at least in jpeg. Just look the iphone that take every time 9 photo seamless when you press the shutter and converge them to a single photo with super high dynamic range. Now in order to do that on my a6400 I need a tripod, a stationary subject and then edit everything on photoshop... they need to wake up or they will die

@@M461Cfs yes that was always a thing but in 10 years I see a 10% improvement with the same sensor size for dslr/mirrorless. In smartphone they use always that 1/2.2 but in those 10 years we saw a 500% or even more improvement. Obviously smartphone are selling like crazy compared to camera and company like apple can invest millions in research but why people start not buying anymore camera at first? Because Nikon and especially canon sleep for years meanwhile smartphone get better every years by a big margin

comparing the shots, it looks like taking half/three quarter body shots, the iPhone compares very well to the camera. In the sense that you can have more DOF on your subject while still blurring the background it actually my suit more. The colours look good also. Honestly not bad from the iPhone

I’m not saying that it’s better than the Sony camera, but give credit when it’s due. The iPhone camera is phenomenal and offers so much more than just photo taking.

i don't think iphone gets better photos. those are straight out of cameras. with that iphones will get better colors. put them in photoshop/lightroom/capture one, and the difference will be massive. the data inside that fullframe sensor is unparalled by a tiny sensor.

My takeaway from this comparison is that unless you are making money with your camera their is becoming little to no reason to buy an expensive dslr or mirrorless camera when the iPhone can produce such similar results. Great video

agreed. If 3rd party apps can get their 3D algorithms working for the blurring to look more realistic, it'll get pretty close. The colour can be tweaked with RAW iPhone photos even more.

Computational photography is definitely getting better and better each year. Won't be surprised if portrait shots soon will have cleaner edge detection like visible hair strands, accurate colors just like in dslr/mirrorless cams, etc.

What makes a photographer is NOT the tools he has at his disposal - it's how he works with the tools at his disposal. That being said - as a photographer from the very early days of digital photography, the quality of this 12MP sensor on a phone vs where we were 7-10 years ago is AMAZING! The point of a camera phone is not to replace a larger sensor/expensive lens setup - it's there to help the photographer in moments that are not expected. I do not carry around my rigs every day - and I completely appreciate the fact that I have a camera in my back pocket that is doing things a DSLR (Digital) could never have done 10 years ago. Be a photographer - take pictures, convey moments.

I think it’s pretty impressive how good the fake bokeh looks now. You can still tell it’s artificial, but it looks a lot more realistic than just blurring out the background

At the end of the day, when you’re taking photos, who are you trying to impress? Most people put them on for family / friends / followers. The majority of the people in these comments including myself actually prefer the iPhone photography. Like, I really wanted to like the Sony’s images, but the iPhone’s were much more pleasing to the eye without having to study Bokeh etc. It’s just like music.. sometimes people prefer a Taylor Swift song to Ariana Grande’s, even though Grande is a better singer.

This only shows how good the iPhone’s new camera is, you are comparing it with One of the best dlsr out there and the iPhone keep it UP, you are not helping the dslr with this video, because altought the dslr is a best camera the iPhone gets the job done and also you have a little and powerfull computer in the palm of your hand and also a phone.

First of all it's not even dslr, it's mirrorless. Second the a7 III is not considered one of the best, in fact it's the entry level full frame mirrorless camera from Sony. Anyway still a great camera, just correcting you on technicalities. The iPhone is great as well, I don't like the portrait mode what so ever though. It looks so fake to me, maybe for instagram or some other small factor photos, not sure.

I'm really kinda impressed at how the iPhone 11 Pro compared to the mirrorless. Any chance you'll do a video where you go in depth into what stood out to you as the photographer and editor? I know in the video you said the winner was pretty obvious, but I found the comparison shots striking. 50/50 for me, easily. I'm curious if your opinions changed in post. Great video! You made me start taking some reallllly cool photos with my iPhone 10s! Just so you guys know, these same features in iphones photos are pretty much the same on a iPhone 10s as well. Obviously the A12 chip and telophoto lense in the iphone 11Pro will be better, but the 10s has STELLAR results as well! Just wanted to mention just in case ppl thought this was only on the 11Pro. Both cameras have their pros and cons. Some shadows just dont look good and some of the lighting don’t look good. So, I guess it really depends on the lighting situation.

With perfect light conditions the phone can take good pictures.When you don’t need to crop or print large format or edit or or or. Beyond that it’s no comparison.

Lee Zavitz Moment has pushed back preorder release from late October to late November for the iPhone 11 camera cases so I came to the conclusion that you could just buy the Sirui mount clip as they use the same mount as moment lenses. 3:19 So up until this shot, the trend was that the iPhone’s photos were more processed and the Sony’s more raw. In this shot, though, notice how her jacket and shirt are left almost untouched in the iPhone’s picture, whereas on the Sony, there seems to be some balancing being done. Contrastingly, the iPhone seemed to have applied some HDR processing to reduce the harsh light on her face, whereas the Sony left it untouched. Moral: Photo processing isn’t limited to smartphones, it seems dedicated cameras do this as well, and sometimes to their detriment.

This is why we need a proper OS and AI in our cameras, and yes I know the most important thing is skills, but we’re in 2019, just imagine the best DSLR with amazing software. I personally prefer the iPhone pics in this comparison.

not happening. professionals want RAW and have full details to manipulate not jpeg processed photo. the dynamic range in that photo is massive if you put those files in photoshop/Lightroom/Capture one.

@@default2826 still a larger sensor will trump any day. that HDR on smartphones looks flat. HDR is not good always. HDR on smartphones destroys the contrast of shadows and highlights whereas cameras don't do that. they look gorgeous, there's a pop of reality, colors are not fake, and details are there even on shadow areas. RAW on smartphones will just give you more noise xD do you know what you are saying? xD what's amazing in these smartphones are their software processing. using RAW would beat the purpose xD

3:21 the iphone shot was definitely better imo. One thing I REALLY like about the new iphone cameras is that the highlights aren't too harsh, so photos aren't as blownout
