Based on my testing with the iPhone 14 Pro it doesn't seem 3rd party repair is viable on this device, despite Apples introduction of the "Self Service Repair" program this year.

If the phones are irreparable and last only about 1-2 years then I'd move away from Apple or bought decent used ones for lowered price.

I was a real Apple fanboy back in the 80s and 90s, from pre OS6 days right up to OSX, but I switched away from their products right after the introduction of OS10.2. I haven't purchased a single Apple product since, and that includes iPhones, iPads, and all the rest. After seeing this, I remain confident that my decision was a good one for me. I like to think that the customer should always come first, and being able to repair your own gear is something I consider a critically important feature, especially when the replacement costs are so high.

@yukonchris
@yukonchris 4 месяца назад
@@jaywhite15_AL I don't think there was any one straw, but several. Apple's claim to compatibility was one, especially when third party software made specifically for the Mac OS would often break after a major OS update. That told me that even compatibility within the ecosystem was questionable. Another was watching what happened to some of the independent software makers who had committed to building applications for the Mac OS. One I remember particularly was Watson or Sherlock or something like that. Finally, is was the "cult" of Mac. After a time, I realized that adherents, myself included, were treating a corporation a bit like a religion--anything they did was awesome, even when it wasn't. Critical thinking had been shelved.. Once I ditched Apple, I just owned a computer and got things done. Also, weirdly, I found that software on the PC actually continued to work, for the most part, over multiple iterations of the OS.

Funny enough about all these repair tech channels they push the narrative that Apple are anti repair. When myself being a phone repair technician. I can say that iPhone are way easier than Androids. 1. The flagship android phones are extremely expensive to get replacement parts. They range from 300-700 for a screen. Compared to Apple parts that are 70-200. 2. Apple is easier to fix, when you need to swap a screen. All you need to do is replace the screen and move the proximity sensor.. With Android you literally have to take apart the entire phone and put it in a new frame. This runs the risk of parts like volume button, speaker, charging port and many more being damage. Yet everyone pushes the narrative that Apple is worse. Which is a lie

@@malfaroangel3896 did you even watch the video? Not arguing that replacement parts on some android phones can be expensive, but even with the cheaper iPhone screen and easier placement, it won't entirely work as the screen and many components are serialized and artificially break functionality, disincentivising 3rd-party and forcing customers to go to apple with their higher repair costs (or cost for their repair equipment) to get their phone fully working again as described in the video. Most Android phones don't even do this.

Problem with that is the logic board is serialized as well as the simcard tray and display. The system Apple uses has the serials logged together, so they would be able to determine that there was a swap. The reason the parts from Apple are able to function is the Apple core systems update the database with the new serials to match the components that weren't replaced. When the phone connects to the internet, it phones home and updates the parts list. That's the loophole for the Apple Self Repair- when the parts are sent to you, the part serials are updated.

Hence, R/F section may not be separate WiFi and Bluetooth which would effect R/F module design. Any thoughts? Thanks Jeffrey, again you delivered great video with important info. It's sad they still don't believe the people will still buy new phones even they could fix old one. Disabling self repair is a huge punch to our nose without a reason and against a law of ownership a things. I hope lawmakers will definitely cut it a very below, it will be good for customers and for the planet.

Now we have a "Never used Iphon 14 brand new for sale" This is similar as the case of Jhon Dere, only they can fix the tractors. Law should cut that practice, in EU there are some laws that said that you can change the oil of your car everywhere when it is new and the warranty still will work. We need something similar for every device.

Amazing to see the refined modular component design and absolute intricacy. The micro-interconnects and other absolutely tiny parts in these phones. Exotic tech we have gradually grown accustomed to.

For the life of me, I have no idea why a screen should be an issue (other than $$$$$ for Apple). NO ONE is going to swap out a screen unless they HAVE TO swap out a screen. Same for everything else, but most everything else Apple could gaslight for technical reasons. Not for a screen.

My first Apple was Xs it was nice, now have an 11 it's ok!!! Till now they are ok, even though I miss the jack and the possibility to use a microSD for more Memory... I'd love a more practical Smartphone like those in the past!!!

More surprising than this issue is the fact that people keep buying them. Another example of feelings over facts.

The front camera is likely the sensor for auto brightness. Hence it not working when the cam is disabled.

I never seen a video so detailed. It was a great eye-opener. I’d rather keep my Google 6 Pro and wait till the next Google 7 pro comes out.., (just a few days from now actually.) I’m pretty sure I will enjoy that one way much more and be comfortable and pleased that it is my phone! And that it does not belong to the manufacturer even though I pay for it. Thank you so much for this video! Kudos to you.

If you are really happy with that phone you wouldn’t need the very next version. Most people on iPhones are happy to upgrade every 3 years. Rarely do people upgrade to the very next version.
