At the iPhone launch, Apple stated the iPhone 15 Pro Max night mode would be 2 x better.
In this video we will see how to take photos of the stars with the iPhone 15 Pro and see how the 15 pro compares to the 14 pro.

So glad I came across your channel. I don’t have a 14pro, I went from a 13 pro to the 15 pro max and I can say it’s easily 10x better at night pictures than my 13 pro. I’ve only taken a couple comparisons but the difference is huge. I’ve always loved astrophotography but hard to do it easily here in Vegas without driving for hours. You got a new subscriber for sure though. Awesome work.

Just received a call from my carrier retail store where I pre ordered a 15 Pro Max… it’s in for me to pick up in the morning 😃 Coming from the 13 Pro Max I’m looking forward to seeing more of what the new 48 megapixel sensor with the new zoom capabilities can do.

LOL ME TOO!!!! I waited on from the 14 Pro Max for this 15 Pro Max! I'm more into video and will use Blackmagic Camera app (its amazingly FREE) for my shooting, along with all the rest of the gear. Blackmagic said they actually worked with Apple to make sure the app works the best with the new cameras within the iPhone. I say, get it now before they start charging like Filmic Pro app

I have the 13 Pro Max, and I figured I'd hold on to it for at least 3 years, but hoping for 4-5... it's a solid phone. But I just ordered the 15 since the cameras are so much better all around, and they FINALLY went with USB-C!

my mother has the S 23 ultra and the camera on it is just mind blowing I upgraded from the 12 Pro Max to the 13 Pro Max because it was supposed to have a better camera and I think the camera system is actually worse. Especially when it tries to switch cameras on you and it changes where your aiming at

You honestly aren’t missing anything camera wise. I upgraded from the 12 Pro Max to the 13 Pro Max because the camera was supposed to be a lot better. It’s not I actually think it’s worse quality and it does a really annoying thing where it will try to switch between close-up lens and regular lens , and it changes where your aiming like changing which eye is closed. It will jump a little bit to one side.

Hi Shayne, I have a question about night mode on the iPhone (I have the 14 Pro Max). I took photo's of the northern lights and I took 10 second exposures in night mode with my hand resting on a wall. Those photos turned out far better than the photos I took with a regular photo camera on tripod. But then, when I look at the data it says those photos were taken 1/2 second on 5000 ISO, 1.1 seconds on 2000 ISO, but it never shows the 10 seconds it actually took to take those photos. What do your photos say about the used exposure time (when used at night in night mode)? Hope you will see this. Thanks for your reply 👍

I would love to see what you could get if you just shot the sky, and then stacked a whole load of these 30s images together, perhaps even using a tracker and see what you could come up with, I know its not for beginner that type of shooting but i think it would be intersting to see what could be done with a bit extra gear.

I've got the 15 pro, I have pitch black sky, I set it on a tripod and the 30s exposure rolls but the pictures are very noisy and it also has some blue tint and some red tint areas. Having played with the pixel 7 pro before I've gotta say the pixel was miles better, the sky was blue, stars were bright and there was no noise. I'm very disappointed in the camera, even the iphone 8 had less noise in macro photos, or pictures taking of moving subjects (like a cat) in bright sunlight had zero noise. Hopefully Apple will fix the camera with updates, at the moment it's just not what it can be.

Shayne i think you could make an argument that they are both better?? The 14 Pro Max looks, imho, more true to an actual night shot while the 15 Pro Max looks more like an early morning shot ie: much brighter, moving away from the feeling of "night". I plan on upgrading and I don't want to buy a pro max, I'd prefer to buy the base model 15. Does that phone still take good night time photos?

A guy in the phone shop said if you want decent night time or astrophotography photos you need Samsung or Google but iPhone really only does decent selfies or pics took in the day. Don’t believe it takes good photos at night. I took one the other night on my iPhone and the same photo on my mum’s Samsung and wow yeah say no more

Omg, this is really amazing. Since when could iPhones take such amazing night shots? iPhones don't support true long exposure like Galaxy phones and only support image stacking(night mode), making it difficult to get good results in astrophotography. It seems that the new iPhone 15 Pro Max has made some improvements in the processing method. I hope Apple will eventually support true long exposure. As of now, it seems to support a maximum exposure time of just one second. Anything beyond that seems to be emulated by taking video.
