@@MeltingRecords Naah. Unless these phone photographers want to start investing in profoto lights (which is currently the only brand of lighting right now that can trigger with a cellphone) we don't have to worry. While a phone camera can in some ways come close, they're gated by natty light and lights that would cost them as much as a used mirrorless.
@@ozarksdigitalcreations9254 Even if you do use lighting, can the phone sync flash, properly meter for external flash? You can shoot completely manual but then you might as well be using a DSLR or Mirrorless. Phones give you decent quality and convenience but If you want precision and control, a dedicated camera is what you need.
It would be better to get a $500 mirrorless or DSLR camera than an iPhone for video. Phones aren't really designed for it. They can shoot great outdoor footage but they lack low light performance. A real camera allows you to use a variety of lenses and you have better control over the exposure. You also get a better log file (or RAW) to work with in post. Comparing the $30K cinema camera to a $1K comments camera or mirrorless would be a better comparison.
It's better to get a Mirrorless camera like the Sony A7iii is one of the best camera's you can buy, It is a hybrid camera that means good for both Photo and Video and it's still cheaper then an iPhone. I guess all the professional photographers at some point have used this camera and it's the best you can get for Beginners.
@@voltage3692 it is cheaper. The guy on the top says he recommends iPhone for beginners but I am saying that why don't just buy a proper camera like Sony A7iii which is even cheaper then iPhone.
Then you should check your eyes if you think so. Anyway this whole test is lazy and footage looks very mediocre. Just because he added a lot of yellow warm tones with sort of yellow and teal look doesn't mean it's cinematic or looks "pro"
@piotrlisowski2012 "Then you should check your eyes if you think so" because you say so, or because "can't be, the price is higher on the other camera and the optics are better"? People don't watch optical specs and price tags, we watch the result. And I also did like some of the iPhone results more. I don't care if the other was sharper or any other such measure-bator concern.
@@foljs5858 just because you like something doesn't make it right or a fact. You didn't give any meaningful explanation why you think iPhone looks better in some shots. It's just your opinion. I know exactly why I'm right on this in terms of both technicals and visual aesthetics. What about you?
I think its great that they now have log footage on, I like to use my phone when on the go as its quick and easy. That being said its still not comparable with my FX3 footage, lol hopefully one day! Cinematic mode looks good sometimes but theres loads of times when the false depth of field looks whack
That final message is so true. And it really becomes obvious when you watch movies that are, say, 100 years old. There are some that hold up SO well till today because they simply have excellent storytelling, and the creators of those movies simply worked with what was available. If they were still alive, they’d put most of us to absolute shame, regardless of the gear. I’m not saying "gear doesn’t matter" because that’s not true, but price tag never equals impact on the viewer.
*How are we supposed to compare $30k CC with iPhone 15 PM when the bitrate is very low on RU-vid. I think if you had zoomed both of the videos simultaneously while you were editing this video in video editing software, we will be able to judge the result of both videos fairly. That's all, Thanks!*
I could tell instantly which one was iPhone. The colors are beautiful, but the digital “crunchiness” of the iPhone is hard to unsee. The future is bright for mobile filmmaking though.
Thanks Kyle. Another great video. As you pointed out you used the cinema camera LUTS on the iPhone footage. No wonder it was so yellow and the other golden brown. As you also pointed out you need to use Apple ProRes Log LUTS created for the iPhone to achieve optimum results.
Very good comparison video, would be nice to see a comparison if you rig the iPhone a little bit with an ND and a black mist filter, I’m sure that the gap between the 2 cameras will be even narrower.
@@edwardiii8409 ND stand for Neutral Density Filter, normally is used to slow the shutter speed down and get a more natural and "cinematic" look or to shoot long exposure photography
I think I actually prefer the camera movement of the 30,000$ camera at 6:50 instead of the stabilized footage of the iPhone. It gives a natural motion, it really sells me the feeling of how she's moving fast through the field.
with Iphone cinema mode, you can get pretty good results with shallow depth of field which is pretty close to the real pro cam, just sometimes 3X zoom with get fuzzy edges( thats with my 14ProMax)
The iPhone footage is awesome, but there’s definitely a difference in the professional equipment if you’re doing commercial work. For casual use and ever for some RU-vid stuff a phone can work really well
If apple could just lighten up on the post-process sharpening it does, or give us a de-sharpening setting in the app, then it would pretty much be perfect vanilla footage to work with. Thanks for the video
I´m sorry but has anyone noticed that he hasn´t an usb-c stick in the Iphone 15 pro max, so he coldn´t have shoot any footage in log because it´s only avalable when you hav one in it and btw it´s overgraded so it isn´t really a fair comparison ín any way.
Crea contenido en español! Me encanta ver tus vídeos, pero no sé hablar bien inglés. Pienso que más de algún actor de doblaje pueda hacerlo y esto ayudará a mejorar a muchas personas que hablamos español. Eres genial! Saludos! 😎
Quick question, are you using the “Action Mode” for the iPhones moving shots? Also Cinematic Mode I’ve noticed looks closer to the 30,000 camera specifically if you switched to cinematic for that close up hand shot.
Hi kyle - can you advice on the best way to possibly rig an Iphone 15 pro max to stack up against some of the top cameras out there…is this even possible?
Nah plenty of other examples where Apple LOG looks better than what's on here, didn't protect highlights during recording and could've used Resolve for CST to match other log footage.
I’m a small channel but my b roll definitely needs stability. I just ordered the 15 pro max today. I have been using a 12 pro max and it just isn’t good enough. I’m excited to get this in a couple days :) thanks for the video.
sony a6700 or zv e1 and you will get much better quality at the same size at the same price. yes, you still need to have the smartphone in the pocket anyway, but sorry. The quality from iPhone in this video is just garbage
After seeing people use iPhone 15 to shoot feature films and commercials, there's nothing that a new filmmaker can't do. Whatever the compromise, deal with it! "Depth of field wah wah" - Use Adobe's AI to add blur. "Sun glare wah wah" - use and ND filter "It's not soft enough" - use and ND filter ENOUGH EXCUSES!
Well, you are just using the iPhone with no accessories. How are you getting correct shutter speeds without an ND filter? Why arent you using any of the great 3rd party lenses like an anamorphic lens? Why arent you using the BlackMagic or Moment app? Why aren't you shooting in ProRes? You are shooting it like a soccer mom lol. Are you a pro videographer? Your iPhone video would look a lot better if you used it as a pro would.
The dreamy look is definitely easier to get with a cinema camera, but the iphone imo could've looked better if you used an ND filter and shot in a professional camera app such as the Black Magic camera app, where you can control a lot more of your settings instead of leaving everything to auto
Kyle I have a question ! do you film your commercial in Slog 3 ? or do you have other settings ? and how does it look outside when you are not shooting in the studio ? :=)
Comparing wide shots in the sunlight of an 1.5K iPhone with a 30K cinema camera, is EXACTLY the same as comparing a commute drive during heavy traffic of a 30K Suzuki Jimny with a 250K Mercedes G-wagon.
Its obvious for me , a camera will always have better image quality however the differences are not "noticable" enough on any average joe (Person with lack of Image knowledge ) ... The truth is you can do professional work with the Iphone and if you client doesent know where you shoot at , they will not see the differences unless they are videographers themselves . Phone is cheaper , better stabilization and much more convenience however worst image quality . Both are completly fine if you have knowledge and the people who doesent agree are the ones who already spend thousands and thousands on Cameras and Lenses and dont want to admit that a phone nowadays can replace a professional camera in 90% of the content .... thats the truth . A good example would be watching a movie on cinema vs home ....on cinema you know for a fact you will have bigger screen and image quality .... in your home you can still enjoy exactly the same movie in a smaller screen with a little bit worst image but in the comfort of your Sofa , with your ideal temperature , privacy , your favourite foods and drinks and you can pause it every time you want . i dont know about you but i would jeopardize a little bit of image quality for all that benefits ...
Bro , you just showed me the most amazing thing ever , and you just thought it's normal! , I NEED the link for the phone case magsafe tripod ! It's the best thing ever I tried to look up for it , couldn't find it
I’m 14 with the iPhone SE 3 trying to save up for the 15 for the camera because a photographer and I do video editing but I can only mow lawns and it’s taking forever but it’ll be worth it when I can get it😭
Why do these comparisons always use the native iPhone camera app and not third party apps like black magic or filmic pro only to then edit the footage on a non native video editing program?
I liked the video earlier, then after some time of watching, I wanted to like it again but saw I had already hit the like button, can we have maybe two like buttons?🥺
Sincerely appreciated this video. The side-by-side comparison was invaluable as it confirmed what I suspected (and hoped) to be true, which is that for me at least, the discrepancy in the footage isn't enough to warrant spending a ton of money on professional cameras, lenses, etc. Even though I also prefer the dreamier footage of the pro camera, the image stabilization, size, weight, and convenience of the 15 Pro Max makes my decision a no brainer. Thank you!
Just came across your channel because I’m a huge fan boy of apple and photography! Been comparing the quality of different professional cameras and phone cameras. Very excited to see if you’ll do a video on the new iPhone 16 Pro series with the new “Camera Control” button. Which will give iPhones a DSLR feel with a capacitive button that can focus the camera and etc. Think this year may be a game changer!
That's cool, but if you don't put a ND filter on the iPhone to manage to lock the shutter speed for proper cinematic motion blur... how can you expect comparing the two cameras? It will always look like a phone.. no matter the dynamic range, color depth, compression etc. The first thing to do with a smartphone camera is always to put NDs/VND on it.
Thanks for this comparison. Yes, the 30k set up looks more beautiful, but its not 29k more beautiful. Id say for the most vloggers, hobby video graphers to intermediate, the iphone is just enough.
🎉Kyle Nutt need making a best camera but it be fallout 4 you need making in RU-vid and get good camera good luck and 1 more it have🎉 you got T-45 it like fallout so T-45 it like robot but it not robot it like you can put T-45 in side a people on 1 and you be best so good luck on now🎉
As a former videographer, there really was a stark difference of the $30k being superior.... However, the general public basically won't notice those things
Hi! I bought the course and I have questions and I email you but no one answers me. You have a very strange way of communicating with your customers. I would like to have feedback!
