I would love to see a speed test on a 3-4 year devices (like for example iPhone 12 PM vs Galaxy S20 Ultra) just to see how the performance is affected during the years.
@@VanReactionsDefinitely won't since IPhone actively slow phones down to preserve battery life which they have openly admitted and created a scandal over LOL. Samsung will win that test with ease
@@AndreVictorGoncalvesYeah, but if you also turn on reduced animations on ios. It would also basically just beat the samsung. Especially since ios puts more focus on animation smoothness, turning animations off would make the phone pretty fast.
@@jdzajdza yeah. I get that. But android's strength comes out from customization. But by default, apple wins. 4 second difference isn't really that big because you don't really open all of these apps at once and swap all the time.
*HOWEVER:* This test is mostly measuring animations speed and random network/sever bottleneck issues, not performance per se. If you care about the performance, then pay attention only to the parts of the video when heavy applications are loaded or heavy tasks are ongoing. (Spoiler, in this aspect, iPhone has been the fastest for like fifteen years straight.)
Reduce animations to .5X, set the home gesture to single swipe instead of double and try again. It's literally 2 trips in the settings that speed up Android phones immensely. No mods or hacks, just simple tweaks for people concerned about speed.
"You don't get an iPhone because it's the bleeding edge of tech, it's not, you get it because you know what you getting into". iPhone doesn't have folding displays, or underdisplay camera, or fancy vapor chamber. It's just an Phone.
Realistic proof that it's just up to feel, customization, and preferences / ecosystem with these flagship phones. Excellent job to both. Expected the iPhone to win being a gen newer but also it didn't beat the S23 Ultra by that much at all. Guess we'll get to see how the S24 goes soon enough.
If you remove the double swipe from Samsung, the results could be different. That and speeding up the animation which you can do on Android but not Apple. So as far as I'm concerned speed wise, Android is where it's at.
Exactly! I use to have a Galaxy Note 10+ then I switched to iPhone, and in the future maybe I'll go back to the Samsung's Ultra series. As long as they drop that hideous curved screen edge.
as an iphone fanboy, I am offended, frustrated, insulted, violated, harassed, assaulted, angry, raped, hyperventilating and rage crying because other android companies seem like they are improving by large strides while iphone only improves by baby steps. iphone must not be surpassed in all categories. i really like the now slightly faster-charging, photography, screen resolution, better durability, more features, and the 60 fps which throttles to 40+ fps genshin impact gaming after 1-2 hours or so with the iphone. i hope android does those things i mentioned especially the gaming part because throttling is a pain. never tried the latest android flagships before but i'm sure iphone does literally everything better. i'm sure the s24 ultra, when it comes out, won't even be close to the iphone 15 pro max.
@@johnnysinssexmaster well s24 already is confirmed to have a better CPU, much, MUCH better GPU (means much superior gaming performance), better thermals, more power efficiency, brighter screen, larger screen, no ugly notch or "island", and some more. But that doesnt really matter cuz even the current s23 is doing almost everything better than apples new 15 pro max, like battery life, speed, and gaming.
@@AnonymousOGif 5 seconds means a landslide then 30 minutes+ battery drain loss for iPhone 15PM against S23U means a Earth Quake hell sink for iPhone 15 PM, right? 😂
Wow that was such an intense game played between Samsung and Apple! I did not expect the results! Thank you PhoneBuff for these awesome videos!!! 🔥🔥🔥 (Edit: why is there a war going in the replies 💀)
@@presto4009 he didn't say anything wrong though. Apple loves their animations so they don't want apps to open TOO fast since it beautifies the UI. Samsung does this to an extent too. Plus many apps and games use the initial opening animations to flash their logos, promos, etc since it's free marketing and most users won't think about it too much. I'd argue at this point these speed tests show a lot more than just how "fast" each phone is
Well, the only reasons S23U from 5 seconds more was due to the double swipe gesture which wasted it's time. If the basic navigation buttons were used then the results would have been opposite. But such a small difference is considerable, especially when a 7 months old device is being compared to 2 weeks old device. Hence, both are best.
iPhone won the test bro, nobody cares about technicalities 😂. Just accept defeat. And app for app as well as rendering the iPhone barely took the crown. Before you even say anything I have an s23 u so I’m not biased
@@galaxytoast2749 I know a win is a win but in our daily life will that 5 seconds gonna make a difference? No! I can easily switch to standard navigation buttons and go ahead of those 5 seconds.
@@superiortoall22 S24U won't ever be 6 months newer than iPhone 15PM but only 4 months. 4 months and 7 months aren't the same. The least time difference makes device eligible to be compared as competitors.
@@tullo5564Not on the ultra models. Possibly on the regular S24 and S25 plus, in certain regions. The S24 ultra will be getting the Snapdragon 8gen3 in all regions.
How is the iPhone stuttering at Disney+ at 4:27 when it stars displaying the launch screen animation immediately? It had to wait for the animation to finish before the content loads!
You can disable the double swipe for fair comparison. I personally use the phone with this feature disabled and that's the only way to enjoy using the phone. Double swiping isn't practical and makes the user experience slow. I think Samsung would win if the double swipe feature is turned off. But i have no idea if phone buff reads the comments or not.
@@vikinnorway6725 not have been the same result. Because I have used the phone and compared both settings. And the difference is huge especially when doing comparisons like these.
@@vikinnorway6725okay, most people don't care which phone is faster then. This is for tech enthusiasts and they will know this feature exist so why not turn it on, how hard is to use a feature which already exist?
You can change the double swipe up on Samsung phones to match it with the iphones. Because of the double swipe up it slowed down transitioning between apps 2 seconds slower. Plus the s23 was able to load majority of the apps faster and render photos and video faster than the A17 pro. S23 still got it.
iPhone won the test bro, nobody cares about technicalities 😂. Just accept defeat. And app for app as well as rendering the iPhone barely took the crown. Before you even say anything I have an s23 u so I’m not biased
Defeat? Show me where Samsung performed worse than the iPhone. As Russian users say: SHOW ME, SHOW ME! The iPhone hamsters never change. "Piss in your eyes - everything is God's dew" is a Russian proverb.
as a Samsung fan,i expected iPhone will have a huge lead, considering its 3nm processor, but damn well done Samsung ,if there wasn't that 2-swipe in galaxy, its almost a draw💥💥
I expected Samsung to kill it as it has faster LPDDR5X RAM, and Apple has slower RAM. Also, the S23U has UFS 4, and Apple does not. So, this was a done deal for Samsung in the more minor apps. Which was the case. But Apple made it up by doing CPU tasks faster, the real power showing its head, and won it despite the much better RAM and storage on the Samsung. 3nm is real!
iPhone and Samsung Galaxy will never be fairly comparable as they come out 6 months apart from each other and not at the same time, so either of them will always have the advantage depending on the time
Your point is not quite right Check older video where even though S21 is newer compared to iphone 12, iphone 12 beat it on speed test The same result happened with S22 and iphone 13 Apple did really good with their silicon chip and ios.
Not only is the iPhone technically more impressive, the operating system is much more fluid and FASTER for day to day use. One thing Samsung users can’t experience, is that animations MUST finish (going home, inertia bounce) before the Samsungs OS will respond. This is a huge problem especially compounded over time. Apple has had this ever since like iOS 12 or so. Well done Apple
LOL. It simple. Just go to setting or dev option to customize animation scale. You can install custom UI too if you want in depth animation customization. Those fluid animation was samsung gimmicks to made one UI looks more appealing. Do you really have used samsung phone or you sincerely didn't know any of these feature already existed on android phones before ios 12?
My concern is on the S23U vs iPhone 14 Pro Max, the 23 had a time of 2:41:53. Here you're showing it nearly 8 seconds slower, why does your test allow that big of a delta between two results on the same device?
his tests aren't worth sh*t though. he didn't disable double swipes, his swiping machine lagged multiple times on the Samsung phone, and most important of all, he's comparing last year's Samsung to this year's iphone.. what an "accurate" test lmao
@@aaaaaa-hh8cq If you're trying to imply that he's biased against iPhones, you're dead wrong and need to calm down. Android phones have beaten iPhones multiple times in the past in the exact same test. Also the difference in this test was just a few seconds, which means both the phones are equally fast in real world usage Also S23 ultra and 15 Pro Max both launched this year.
I hate the swipe gestures. I love the buttons way better and feel quicker with them. And besides, I customized my buttons to look different. They look nice
I am blessed to have both of these phones and the S23U is my favorite. Liked to see this head to head battle! The iPhone is a touch quicker but it makes sense since it's newer. Can't wait for the S24U !
@@weed46 Eh, it's about the same if you have a top of the line flagship. The iPhone is maybe a little better at that, but not much. Not a big gap like it used to be.
@@weed46Android holds its usefulness much better over the years, with system apps still getting updated via the app stores even without major OS updates.
@@DameTechAnd you believe this statement? During the testing of the system nobody complained about heating and battery drain, but as soon as iOS17 was released, it just started to blow up. It's not about the system, it's about Apple's desire to make money on customers again, only this year they were poorly surprised.
@@Darkangel6131Dude, you... I have an iPhone 11 Pro and a Samsung S23 Ultra. Don't tell me that Apple is evolving with its iPhone. USB-C appeared in iPhone 15, but it remained at 2.0 level, when flagships at the same price offer USB 3.2! And yes, the iPhone lost the race to "lice" in Russia, for more and more people are swapping it for a sub-flagship/flagship on Android, as it is more versatile. And no need to joke about comparing it to North Korea, since the people there de facto have lost NOTHING from the ridiculous sanctions, but only gained new opportunities.
Just 2 seconds difference in app opening test and another 2 in ram management. Man that's awesome for S23 ultra. I thought it might fail miserably. But good job from Samsung. And it's been 8 months since the release of S23 series. And many Apple users think Samsung device gets slower after few months. But this test proves that they are completely wrong. It is keeping up with the latest iPhone 15 pro max.

You might be right, but the 8 gen 3 is releasing this month, with the s24 series coming in January. These earlier releases mean the s24 is more in line with the iPhone 15 than the s23, but I'd agree with you when it comes to previous years. (And who knows, the iPhone might still win lol)
Maybe bc from the same yr the galaxy us released at the start and the iphone at the end? 💀 and yes we have lol the s23u beat this iphone 15 in the speed tests by everyone else. @@alexisaguirrevazquez7900 but there's a bigger time gap between s22 release and 14 series than s23 and 14 so it would be much more fair to compare s23 to 14s than s22s
I could be wrong, but I feel like more time is taken between double swipes than necessary. At least in my experience, I can almost immediately let go of the first swipe and do the second swipe, so assuming that difference in time is due to 2 swipes to exit certain apps, it might be a different result of the swipes happen quicker
FYI: If the double swipe wasn't an issue on the s23 ultra, it'd surely win. And I'm not sure if people in the US use it or not, but in other countries, the video editing app called KineMaster is used a lot for its rich features. To test the video rendering performance on that app, you'll see very easily that the S23 Ultra beats the iPhone 15 Pro Max with its A17 Pro, which just shows that the processor itself may have less with how a device performs in these apps sometimes. It is more about the optimization of the apps themselves.
I saw a YT video where four editing apps were tested, S23U -v- iPhone 15PM, and the iPhone won all. If we used the fastest iPhone app and the fastest S23U app then that would be fair.
@amfrepo Ur right. The video I was talking about is named (iPhone 15 Pro Max vs Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra - SPEED TEST (Total Domination)) on the RU-vid channel called @TechTalkTV. Check it out once.
He did multiple tests so this is fair. 4 seconds is better but it will make no difference to what you buy, more for bragging rights and to show that Apple is still the King of Speedtests. Can the S24U recover the loss?
@@ColdSummer98 I'm an iPhone user and myself I say who cares about this negligible difference, in day to day use the perception of performances from user point of view is exactly the same...even if it was 30 seconds slower than S24U I would have bought an iPhone anyway because of personal preferences
S23 had UI Gesture Disadvantage. I personally wouldn't count that, but it still be a very close call. I truly believe S23 would slightly win had it not have to Double Swipe on many apps.
In 2023, almost every new phone is too fast to differentiate. What we’re really more interested in is the battery life. I’m sure that test is in the works 😉
On the camera app while switching to front camera samsung zoomed out a bit as it recognised two persons which the iphone didn't. So I think both phones were at same speed there.
What I am curious for is a test after a year or so when both phones have had their time to optimize a bit, in the speed test as well as the battery test.
@@djsky2k8 The iPhone 15 would benefit alot more from optimisation as they are still a newly released phone, it is bound to get better in time. The S23 would have minimal improvements as the big improvements has already been released.
@@firstclass000 Sure, it may make a slight difference but the iPhone 15 has just been released and still has a few unfixed bugs. Their optimal time will be alot higher than the current one.
What I want to see is generational performance tests. So, iPhone 14 vs iPhone 15, Galaxy S22 vs Galaxy S23, Pixel 7 vs Pixel 8, etc. And seeing that the iPhone now has two different chipsets, one for normies and one for “pros”, I’d like to see both. 14 vs 15 and 14 Pro/Pro Max vs 15 Pro/Pro Max. I know you’ve done Galaxy Snapdragon vs Galaxy Exynos in the past, so I don’t think it’s that much to ask, right? 😅
I think we’ve reached an era where speed doesn’t really matter anymore. Both iOS and Android phones are insanely fast and great. What really matters I think for me personally is a phone that stands out. Sadly I don’t think the foldable phones are quite there yet on the same level as flagship phones.

I honestly think iPhone would crush galaxy if it wasn’t using it’s efficiency cores for menial tasks like opening Spotify and other minor/light apps.I think it’s time to upgrade your test with some heavier apps and tasks to show the true power of A17 pro ✌️
For a better comparison, I would like to see what type of difference it will make if you gave the galaxy it's home buttons back. Or at least figure out a way to not have to double swipe on almost every app. Arguably I think this years iPhone has managed to close the gap on the Samsungs but they will more likely fire back harder with the next galaxy that comes out. The king is down but not out! Lol.. plus by the time the next ultra hits the market, the iPhone should have some quality of life updates to speed things up once the apps are optimized to take advantage of the new chip.
@@peterimafidon8341 UI does mean efficiency wth 💀 look at the battery tests too… 4400 vs 5000 mAh. iPhone always wins these tests for a reason. Superior chips with proper optimization leads for a smooth experience
And remember guys The new IPhones hasn’t been optimised yet to their maximum powers ! Apple still trying to fix some issues with the new series! So I’m guessing they will be more powerful after a few updates , as it happens with all the phones!
I don't really understand. On the 2nd lap, the iphone only requires one swipe to go back to the homescreen in games for example, when the S23 Ultra requires two. Why didn't you make both of the phones even on that part in the settings ? Your tests are usually know to be the best, but this is such a big flaw in the test protocol.
iPhone's tend to get quicker on their release OS too, so 6 months from now it'll probably be 5 or so seconds quicker due to optimisation, very impressive!
Except that never happened for the 14pm vs the s23U the gap kinda got wider in favor of the s23U. But make up whatever story u need to support your decision lol
I watch the video and then come to comment section to check on the vibe and it's always the same, people are always excited to see PhoneBuff style speed test.
I don't agree that the iPhone won. Again, it was a tie, because if you subtract the double action of minimizing running apps, the same apps start and work the same way. The logical conclusion is that Android and its hardware are evolving, while Apple, with its Bionic and system, is stagnating.
These are cute and fun, but let’s not lose sight of the fact that the reason Apple increases its performance year over year is for stuff like machine learning, camera capabilities, and overall smart features. This is where you truly see the difference when comparing the 15PM and the iPhone XS for example.
