finally a great review! you're the only one I see who has mentioned this display difference ( I was looking for someone to adress it). I think the display is slightly warmer and yellower rather than true white like it was on the 14 pro. anyone see a difference?

Thank you! Hmm you might be right. I did spend a while inspecting the display white balance (checking for tint shifting too) but couldn't confirm that myself. Definitely something different about the contrast though, very strange!

The best review I’ve seen on RU-vid comparing the iPhone 14 Pro to the 15 Pro and 15Pro Max! I had the 15 PM for 2 weeks and the 5x was a let down. It would change to 5x digitally vs. optical more than once esp. if the lighting wasn’t perfect. And the loss of quality between 2x-5x was even worse compared to the 15 Pro’s 2x-5x. The PM’s battery was great, subjectively 2-3 hours more than the 15 Pro (Which I average 5-7 hours of on screen time on iOS 17.0.3). Even though the PM has a new weight and size difference from the 14 Pro’s, it was still a bit too big for me. Ultimately, I returned the Pro Max for the 15 Pro, which I deem to be like an iPhone 14s. For me and my uses, the new HDR5, ProRES LOG, USB-C and titanium body has made my purchase justifiable. Appreciate the hustle for these videos! You have a new subscriber 😉🙌🎉

@@insidetechltd🤝 Anytime! I also had the 14 Pro and though it was a good phone, I absolutely disliked the cooler, sharper photos it produced. I’m glad Apple fixed all of that with the iPhone 15 Pro.

I’m so torn between the 3x and 5x!! You did a great job of demonstrating that the 3x seems to be able to get closer results to the 5x than the 5x can do the 3x…did you also find that the 5x zoom level was tight enough that you would not find yourself switching to it as much as you would the 3x lens?

Thank you! To be honest I don't tend to do a lot of telephoto photography in my daily life, so i'd use them both about the same. As I said in the video though, I don't find the extra range you get is really worth the trade off with the 5x. For how I use the phone, the 3x is the better choice

I have been looking for a reviewer that compares both the 15 pro and 15 pro max. Thank you very much for this detailed review!!! I have a questions, when you look at the 15 pro and 15 pro max at night time, does the 5x optical zoom outperform the 5x digital zoom?

Thank you! Yes it does, but really not by very much. If you look at that 5x night tele against the 14 Pro in the video, the main difference is the HDR, so that’s the same with the 15 Pro and the Pro Max. The 15 Pro also has slightly better detail than the 14 Pro, so again it closes that gap on the Pro Max even more. What you’re left with is only a slight improvement with the optical vs digital. The Pro can digitally zoom the extra 2x pretty well (as you can see from the day time shots) and this carries over to night mode too. You could argue that the extra noise the Pro Max brings makes the shot even worse, actually. I would personally still say the Pro Max has a slight edge at night. It does, overall, outperform the Pro at 5x. But it’s close!

They should merge pictures from 5x and 1x lenses to get the 3x image on the Pro Max. This means that the central section of the 3x photo from the Max would be just as high quality as a dedicated 3x lens, while only the outer (less important) sections would lose quality.

Superb review! Have you had any heating issues? If so, sorted after iOS 17.0.3 update? Any concerns? I pre ordered pro max so hoping it’s ok. Should come next week.

Thank you! So 17.0.3 definitely helps with a lot of things. Just got a new 15 Pro today and whilst updating to the latest software it was getting pretty warm. Then again when restoring from backup it got pretty warm then too. That’s quite a complex process and you’ll only have to do it once, so hopefully not an issue. It’s fair enough to run quite warm for those things. Now I’ve been using it as normal, I’ve had no issues at all. Will see going forwards if there is anything to report!

Dude! Great video! Super negative videos will often have comments that say “now THIS is honesty!” but they’re wrong imo. That’s more sensationalism. THIS video was honesty. You said what you liked and what you didn’t, and what the differences were. Thank you! And especially thank you for pointing out that the 3x zooming digitally to 5x is better than the Pro Max trying a 3x digital zoom. You didn’t just quickly mention these drawbacks and move on, and you had great examples. I’ve been waffling all day long for two weeks about which one I want. But as an amateur videographer and haver-of-an-adorable-but-high-energy-little-niece, I think that dedicated 3x zoom will fit me best. I already know how to throw my phone onto some binoculars to get a cool bird anyway.

One of the best review on YT. How you compare build quality to 14 PRO? Some say that 15 PRO has bigger gaps around frame and back panel. Which one feels more premium?

Thank you! So to be completely honest, I'd say the 14 Pros have a slightly higher build quality. You're right about the gap. It is there if you look for it. But that's why the phones are now hundreds of pounds cheaper to replace the back glass. I think the extra weight of the 14 Pros makes them feel a little more premium too. Having said that, I wouldn't trade it whatsoever. The 15 Pros feel so much nicer now, they're a big improvement in the design and build (even if they don't seem as technically 'high quality')

Hello, thanks for the video! I will definitely change my phone because currently using 8 PLUS!!! I like to take photos and really need a new phone. But due to over heating issue and durability of pro max, I got confused. About size pro max ok for me because almost the same size as my current phone. After all updates for heating, which phone do you advise between 14 pro max, 15 pro or 15 pro max? (And with phone cover 15 pro’s are safe?) Thank you for your answer in advance🌿

First of all, what's wrong with the durability of the 15 Pro Max? I understand you're happy with the size of the your current phone, and therefore the Pro Max would be the same. But do you especially want the bigger screen? Because the Pro would still give you an even bigger screen than your current 8 Plus but in a much smaller phone - that's the one i'd go for. If you do still want an even bigger screen than that go for the 15 Pro Max. Skip the 14 series and future-proof yourself with USB-C. Not sure what you mean by 'safe' but a phone case will protect your phone if that's what you mean

Using the sony A7R5 and most of my portraits shots are between 50mm to 105mm focal length….one of the main reasons why I am still deciding whether to upgrade my 14P to 15PM…. Not many videos talked about this

I think not many reviewers are talking about this because experienced photographers already know the difference. You’ve demonstrated yourself you know what focal lengths would be good for you and therefore the phone choice is obvious, right? The Pro’s 77 mm would sit perfectly in that range you’ve described. So surely the 15 Pro is the best choice for you?

The 15 pro models do have some upgraded new useful features such as the USBC port , and maybe the ray tracing (a questionable difference on a tiny smartphone screen imo)but if you’re not a content creator or gamer and have the previous pro models , there really doesn’t seem much of an upgrade if your an average user , in some areas like durability seeing some of the drop tests it actually looks like a downgrade or of almost no benefit at all , the titanium seems more of a marketing thing than anything else to me imo , in stills and video at times the previous models either where very similar and on some occasions appeared slightly better , though the newer models probably have the edge by the numbers. Weighing it all up as a average user with a 14 pro max, the cost to benefit ratio for the limited good points and some possible negative points of the new model , the 15 does not tick enough boxes , and the question mark of durability I’m not convinced of with the new models , I can’t see a reason change from my proven 14 pro max.

It's great for portraits yes. I haven't tested its quality for zoom in buildings or outside places and got shocked from your results comparing to 14 Pros regarding quality. But all the portraits of my kids that I've taken using the 5x lens are fantastic. Had the 14 Pro Max and two things surprised me for good. The 24mp and the clarity of the main lens and this 5x portraits.

This is a great video, thanks. Not sure if you would, but no one has ever done a video about Dual Sim and eSim covering every aspects of it. How it actually works, what are the options we can set for each sim( like sound, vibration etc), and the visibility of the Sims when receiving call or a message, what are the advantages of eSim, how many eSims we can store and how to switch in between etc.. . I bought and ASUS Zenfone 10, it's a brilliant phone, but I had to return it because the dual sim features were not well designed. I couldn't see where the call is from( from which sim), I couldn't set one of them silent, I couldn't turn off the vibration for 1 sim only etc.. Dual sim is a feature that pulls customers, but obviously most companies can't see this.

Thank you! So I did cover the benefits of eSIM in the 14 Pro review last year. But i've never gone in depth like you described. It would actually be a really interesting video I think, because you're right in that not all phones perform the same with eSIM. Those issues would be super annoying. I'm not sure that many people would want to see a video on it, sadly. But if enough people do then of course i'll make it!

2:06 maybe because the 15 pro is thicker than last year model hence it could reduce the camera bump. 2:10 although it has thicker chassis, the pro max model is unchanged because it needs extra space for that fancy new camera system; the prism and 3D sensor shift

So here’s a question- I went to an Apple Store and tested both units in their native zoom about 80m away and then cropped way in to a person’s face and for sure the 5x lens produced much better results. Is this contrary to what you’re demonstrating which is effectively that there’s no real zoom benefit with the 5x lens?

No that's not contrary at all. The 5x is lens is better at 5x, of course. I just don't think it's good enough to justify the price. Also the trade off is how much worse the Pro Max now is between 2-5x

👍👍 very comprehensive good video review comparison, iphone pro titanium should be durable like ultra watch but its not because they didn’t let titanium stick above glass so it’s less durable than 12-14 pro, believe pro phones should have four 48mp lens camera system with extra wide 1x 4x 8x all giving 24mp pictures with great detail and no change in quality from lens to lens plus even better depth detail

It's a telephoto lens - not a _telescope._ Take a look at the amount of light the 5x gives you : ƒ 2.8 for its 120mm equivalent.

@@WhatsThePoints1 The more light you get, the faster you can take a photo (and the lower the light can be for a successful image). The sensor behind the 5x camera features 3D stabilization, so it can compensate better for camera shake. So … iPhone 15 Pro Max's 120mm equivalent telephoto can be more useful in wider set of circumstances. IOW, the 5x doesn't just go for reach … it goes for useful reach with a camera mere mortals can hold still enough to achieve successful images and videos.

I noticed that 15 Pro Max is not using optical lens while zooming 5x. Sometimes it is using crop and sometimes optical lens, as it want. Quite annoying thing which impacting quality a lot.

Yes I think this is the same situation with Samsung right now. Annoyingly Apple doesn't let you select a specific lens (you can use third party apps to do this). So sometimes it will just choose to crop instead 😓

It's really hard to say right now. It's been so inconsistent - I've seen lots of other reviewers saying the same thing lately too. The battery is really good, but recently mine has been draining loads of battery overnight. Sometimes 20%. It's crazy. One day it said it was the "find my" app. So I force closed that. Last night it was Siri... I have been using the 80% charging limit feature so I'm going to try turning that off and doing some more tests

It depends on how much you want a big screen, what phone you currently have and what you like/don't like about it. Consider those things first, and then you can start to narrow down the choice

This year it’s no case for me. The phone is too good looking and feels too nice to mess it up with a case. Apple care + and a screen protector. That’s it.

I'm not quite brave enough, even with Apple Care+. But I'm trying. I'm now caseless all the time at home and then grab the case for going out. I want to actually enjoy the feel of these phones for once!

Again Apple goes down the road of over-processing in many situations more and more detrimental and against the original Apple camera development. I would like to have all AI and HDR stuff turn-off (should be a lighter HDR option in addition to overzealous Smart HDR)

I would take an iPhone 15 pro Max if it was Givin to me as a gift I wouldn't spend 50 bucks though on them. They are good phones but they ain't nothing compared to my sexy Samsung lol lol
