The important things are the new features, the new chips, the new cameras and better screens and new sensors. The current design just looks good and works as expected. Like google pixels and galaxy phones, those phones now look the same because they reached the best design choice. And the 12pro max isn’t the same as the 15pro max, they have entirely different insides and features.
