Man I think for a phone that's 6 years old its performance is great. I still got one that's used only for reading on iBooks or Kindle. Love it. Great screen and A12 Bionic still doing not bad after 6 years

I’m loving these comparisons, the XS Max looks almost as small as the regular Pro model’s now, the difference from a XS Max to the 16 Pro Max isn’t much in day to day usage but the differences in graphics and CPU intensive tasks, the differences are huge, but overall it’s impressive that the XS Max is even still usable in 2024.

The problem I've seen with the XS and 11 Pro now is that there's random large lag spikes sometimes when swiping out of apps (especially the camera) or other random times, finding new podcasts will freeze it all up, opening safari and hitting new tab will take a while to respond etc.. The 4GB is catching up to it, in a way that even such a speed test might not fully show, even though you can see the 16 is faster already. I can be filling out a form in one app, go check one other thing and come back to it right away, and the form is gone. Apple makes amazing chips but doesn't really future proof on RAM enough.

my iphone 13 with 4 gigs of ram was running just fine. Games were smooth, apps loaded up quickly. The only issue with the ram was that apps in the background would shut off pretty quickly and they would have to reboot once i opened them again. not a huge issue since most apps launch in 2 seconds anyway.

What I do is in the morning I open all the apps that I'll be needing for the day, and just leave them running in the background. When I open them they just pop up immediately without loading it from the start. Saves time.

That still doesn’t answer the question. Everyone knows new software on very old hardware means slowdowns. The software may look the same to you as a user, but I can assure you the stuff under the hood isn’t so simple. Use your brain. His XS performs way below average, as stated on the benchmark results. By definition, his phone cannot accurately represent every XS out there.

@@Adamtendo_player_1 11 Pro. It’s only a hair behind modern releases(only side by side), and it’s mostly due to the lesser amount of system memory(only noticeable sometimes). A phone with a degraded battery will absolutely lose performance until it’s replaced, though.

I have the Samsung note 10 and the iPhone XR but I'm going for that iPhone 16promax 🤩, and it's incredible how prettier it looks than even newer Android phones, and that even though it still receives updates, something that 2021 Androids don't, and that iPhone XS Max is from 2018, and it's definitely prettier. I see better specs because I have the iPhone XR and next to my Samsung note 10, I like the iPhone more than Samsung so I choose the 16promax which will undoubtedly feel like a big jump.👑 Apple👑

Saying goodbye to an old iPhone is always hard but the harsh reality is the XS Max is outdated and surely won’t be getting iOS 19, time to upgrade and you will feel the difference more than any other phone as the XS Max is the oldest iPhone that’s supported on iOS 18. The XS Max is once of those cases where Apple should have cut support as the hardware just can’t keep up outside of the basics now:

The 16 Pro Max back cover looks washed out compared to the XS Max. In official print media, it is portrayed as much darker and contrasty. Apple should change that. To add, the display size for the XS Max was sold only once and then Apple was done. It is the perfect sweet spot between being too small and too unwieldy. Apple realised this and deliberately never went back with the later generations, until the rumoured 17 "Slim/Ultra" comes out next year which is purported to sit at 6.5".
