Can't wait to see this. LOVE RED cameras - the RED Komodo is one of my absolute favourites :) Just finished watching the new mountain biking film on Red Bull TV and it was shot on RED cameras :) :) :)
Overall the RED takes the wins, but the fact the iPhone can even compete slightly is gnarly. I've heard "28 Years Later" just finished principal photography and it was shot on iPhone 15 Pro Max - definitely need to watch it when it comes out. In my opinion, the results speak for themselves. Steven Spielberg once said: "You shouldn't dream your film, you should make it", if you couldn't before now you can.
Slightly? thats a bit of an understatement. It can compete, even though a RED is best for cinematic, the iPhone sure could compete and in some situations it was even better. With a professional rig, accessories and post work, you can make great cinematic shots with it. and still, its just a phone with small lens, small sensor.
Great video! Quick tip: When you jump for vertical height, try to stop rather than continuing to move forward. Stop and swing your arms back and then upwards with your body as you jump up. This way your height isn't stolen by the horizontal momentum.
I know nothing about photography 🙂↕️ great video. I just bought the iPhone 16pro and it’s great to see its capabilities and what people who have better equipment have to say!
@@ItsTomRich It looked like and I was not sure about it, thanks for letting me know, do you think the color can be a little bit better for iPhone after color grading, ofc it can't achieve the color profile of red though
If someone compares iPhone with professional camera it means you don’t know anything about videography. . I have the iphone 15 pro max and I can’t compare it with a $15000 sony camera
would have been good to compare the phone with a lens on the Komodo that didn't have so much chromatic aberration. The depth of field on the Komodo was definitely nice, the lens was very soft though.
We live in a time when we compare phones to professional cameras.... it's insane what these phones can do. Director Danny Boyle used iPhone 15 Pro to shot incoming 28 Years Later movie. It's a proof that all you need is an good idea and creativity. Technicality doesn't matter that much anymore. We already have cheap technology on our hands.
Comparisons like these only add to the confidence why we decided to go the route of the Lumix GH5II, or any of the newer GH series models. Paired with an Atomos Ninja V and a cache of Cinema lenses like the Zeiss CP.2’s, the world is just more open. It even afforded us multiple cameras for B and C cams… Camera like the Komodo are just too cumbersome, which is why we even got rid of Blackmagic cameras too. The cost benefits were just not worth it in our opinion, for the pice of a Komodo, we could get entire sets of Cinema Glass, or at least a couple pairs of top quality glass… Ultimately the end results are nearly indistinguishable… 🤔
@@ItsTomRich iphone is amazing in terms of video clarity and quality. It defeats S24 in that. But I love S24 video because it gives cinematic video quality like we are watching batman movie or any Hollywood movie
the iphone slowmo image is better, but the compression and bokeh of the lens on the red helps it look professional. use a mirrorless camera with better slowmo would wipe the red and iphone. red is overrated, what saves it is the high dynamic range.
YA're Wrong ❗️ Even Previous Generations i-Phone's 1080p 120FPS Slo-Mo is As Good As That of Sony Mirrorless ❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️ Only Reason that Mirrorless Slo-Mo Looks Nice is Because The Background Image is Blur out and Only Focused Image Stands out, Overall Image Data Can Save and It Deters Compression Artefacts to Generate out of Lack of Image Transfer Transaction. But When YA Need Deep DOF Motion Picture and Everything Should be Crispy in Focus, Even Sony Most High-End Mirrorless Can Struggle Because Their Data Bit NormaLly Can Not Exceed 400Mbps. On The Other Hand i-Phone 16 Pro/Pro Max Record 4K 120FPS ProRes Log Shooting with SSD ATTACHED that Enables Over 1,000Mbps Shooting Video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-d1_QWs0llFc.html
Red is not overrated. You have to get a Sony a9iii to get a global shutter which is more expensive than the red, and the red has better colours and compression format than the Sony
The iPhone is slightly sharper in most of the shots. Overall, the color is often better. As someone who shot Tv commercials way back in the 1970s, I can tell you that the weight of the rig might help for a short time when beginning a shoot. It quickly becomes tiring and hand arm shake takes over. If a higher quality version of the codec on the iPhone was used, there would have been a difference. The past couple of iPhones have the capability of looking very cinematic if handled properly. You really need a tiny external SSD to shoot the higher quality codec. But that’s not really a big problem. I’m finding the 16 Pro Max that its a slightly bit better than the 15 Pro Max. The main problem is, obviously, that the smaller chip has a lot more depth of field. But the chips inside keep getting larger and the main camera sensor is now almost a 1” sensor. There are a few pretty good lenses for smartphones and each generation gets better. If somehow Apple made it possible to remove the lens and replace it with full lenses, it would be amazing.
nah the 10k camera is better in everyshot it has way more detail and less noise . the sharpening your talking about maybe just the artificial sharpening by iphone but its not as accurate and detailed as the look on the 10k camera . but overall that difference isnt worth 10k unless its for movie production the iphone is still more worth it
@@abz7800 no, it’s not. We’ve seen comparisons last year between the 15 Pro Max and a $100,000 camera with professional film makers who actually know how to do post properly and most of the shots they did even they said it was almost impossible to see the difference of depth of field was balanced between the two. I agree from my own testing over some time. Most of the differences we’re seeing here is that they didn’t use the best codec von the iPhone and they did t match depth of field. Obviously the phone is going to be different in that and you can immediately tell which is which because of it. The Komodo has a reputation of being difficult to balance in post, and its dynamic range is off.
I have the 12 pro max but I’m looking at the 16 pro max studio mics but my carrier says that they’ll give me free air pods pro 2 with iPhone 15 pro max so I’m torn if I should save money and get free AirPods or just go with the 16 pro max because I waited for so long 😮
Based on this video alone, in most cases, the iPhone 16 Pro performs better. The Komodo is known for having relatively poor image quality among entry-level cinema cameras, but people are just blindly believing in the "RED" brand name.
What a joke is this trying to compare a RED with an iPhone. If you use a RED you use it for serous filming that means for a film or comercial where you have a script, a team, a lighting crew and you use different lenses for different situations and scenes including anamorphic lenses. For recording people walking on the beach with their dogs obviously you will see zero difference between an iPhone or a RED as it really does not matter what you use.
why everyone talks about camera while display doesn't support 4k, good HDR images. for example my 12promax display doesn't show exact quality picture taken my 14promax or 16 pro max. same picture has different display on iphone itself. we need good quality display while having great cameras. our family has variety levels of iphones, each one phone display shows different quality in image
when you compare 1500$ to 10000$ there is a winner other then that you cannot really replace the physical camera but more people will access to great cameras via smartphones then old days when you want an great camera you need a physical one which is expensive
Seen this video and could not even be bothered to watch it. It’s same old every single year and it’s tiresome. People that think the iPhone pro camera is even close to a decent DSLR or Mirrorless are just dreaming so why even test it ! You will lose quality over RU-vid as well. I am a pro photographer and admit when the time is right, I do use my iPhone pro max, especially if the area is kinda, let’s say uneasy! lol I also sometimes use black electrical tape across any names of my equipment, when abroad especially. Anyhow you don’t even need to watch these videos, these are night and day difference between pro and iPhone. Also companies are now integrating Ai into the mirrorless cameras and so soon the gap will get even bigger as the only advantage iPhone had is software as the hardware is shit in comparison. That gap will be irrelevant soon. however most pro shooters don’t want shitty Ai messing up their photos or the artistic vision they are aiming for and will edit it their way.
Agreed! Smartphone photography is great, and the steps that Apple have made in the space is impressive, but you simply cannot beat physics nor the utility, modularity, and opportunity that a big camera with a huge sensor and big lenses brings you. You can edit a DLSR or Mirrorless camera to make it look like an iPhone shot, but you can’t truly make an iPhone/smartphone picture look like a professional camera, nor can you with video.
Stop! These TYbers crack me up😂. This is a OG Komodo and an iPhone in no world can compete. When you drop in post the raw files, no chance. Also the Komodo is not $10k. 🤦🏿♂️😂
Yeah there it goes the first in many IPhone vs Stuff we know it wouldn’t beat videos😂 why are people making this vids every year? I mean come on make some relevant an stunning with the iPhone no more clickbait.
In what world does this comparison make sense? In fact, any mobile phone camera setup. Until mft becomes defacto it's not even worth doing. Different sensors, lenses nothing comparable in reality.
tbh, they both seem extremely similar in quality so I rathr buy the muuuuuch less expensive one when it comes to these two devices. I say iphone gets the win on this one. And I'm not an apple fanboy or anything like that.
