This man could also cause people to mess their phone up because he did not disconnect the battery when disconnecting and reconnecting the screen. Disconnecting / reconnecting the screen w/o disconnecting the battery, can cause you to blow out the back light of the display.

Good vid showing the proper way to remove the adhesive. I just learned something lol. The battery cable has a "u" bend in it that has to be bent, just look at original battery to see the bend.

I had installed a new battery in my wife's 6plus and whenever I tested it the screen would be fine, then it would go blank or it would keep shifting around. I checked your video and noticed how you made sure the battery connection fit into the groove properly. I opened the phone and sure enough the connection was crimped. I carefully straightened it out, tested and closed the phone and it worked perfectly. Showing the troubles possible in the install is a VERY valuable inclusion. Great video!

I followed this video in its entirely from beggining to end 3 times before I attempted the battery replacement. Even while I was changing the battery, I was watching it. End result: everything went smooth and not a single problem rose from it. Watch the video a couple of times, specially if it is your first time doing it ( like in my case).

I found the screwed up display problem very useful. After almost having given up, I found your video. Because you included this error in your video, I decided to re-examine the integrity of all connections and found the problem. Even though they seem to be connected, you can't be sure unless you heard them actually 'click' into position. A useful lesson. All is well now. Thank you.

Took iphone 6 in to have the battery replaced, professionally. Within 6 months phone started to shut off on its own and noticed something inside was moving when it was shook. The shutting off got worse and after watching your video realized the only thing that could be loose was the battery. Thought the cold weather we have made the adhesive not work. Had to order the a screwdriver set plus got the adhesive strip from your link. When I took the iphone apart as per your instructions the battery had no adhesive at all. I had paid $80 to have the battery replaced and did it because I figured they would do it right. If I had taken it back to them they could have kept quiet on the missing adhesive and charged me more. Have it done now and feel good that I did it myself. Thanks for showing what it looked like if not connected properly. I had that happen so would have freaked out if I had not seen it happen on this video. Appreciate you putting this video out there.

Thanks so much for your detailed instructions! Followed it step by step and all went smoothly, except I snapped the second sticky. When pulling out the sticky from beneath the battery be sure to do it nice and slow and do everything you can to not snap it because it's a real pain to pry the battery out when you can no longer reach the ends of the sticky. Also be aware that if you puncture a lithium battery they can catch on fire and explode when their internals are exposed to air, so take care. If you do have to pry the battery out, think about what you'll do if the battery catches fire. Be prepared. (No that didn't happen to me :-) )

Great video for sure. The adhesive strips you’re referring to under the batter are like the 3M picture hanger strips. You pull the tab downward and the 3M strip releases from the wall doing zero drywall damage so these work in the same manor. This is by far one of the BEST instructional videos I’ve ever seen! Excellent instruction video Jim, thank you! I was able to replace the battery on my iPhone 6S in about 25 minutes. I opted to leave the screen connectors in place by simply securing my work against a stack of heavy books. That was enough to maintain that important 90 degree angle that you mentioned. If I could share a simple suggestion...I found that using a 2" wide strip of painters tape useful in safely keeping track of all the tiny screws. You'll need to secure the sticky side up of coarse, and then continue with the location/placement you suggested in the video. Thanks again - Mel

Couple issues with this repair. 1. You used a metal spudger to remove the screen. You should have used a plastic opening tool. 2. Once you got to the battery, you then pried on the circuit board side. If it becomes necessary to pry, pick the side with the volume buttons. That way you don't risk damaging the circuit board. Alternatively, you can apply a little amount of heat on the bottom of the phone, on the battery side.Other than those two major mistakes, good quality video and good useful information.
@fridakalota370

One of the securing tapes broke half way through removing. (Had already successfully one of the two) I used a heat gun on the outside of the compartment held by hand so I could judge the temperature. I heated until it was uncomfortably to touch the outside of case where the battery was. (Also could just start to smell adhesive) I let sit for a couple minutes then reheated, trying to give time for heat to sink into adhesive. Used two small plastic prying tools on side of battery that adhesive had been removed. Pried slowly alternating between tools until loose.

Thanks Say The problem with the first replacement battery not holding a charge may be a cheap brand. I watched a video on testing replacement batteries and it found many brands aren't as good as the original Apple battery and recommended the good brands. I wish there was a larger capacity replacement battery. Why does apple make these tiny hard to hold phones a bigger with larger batteries.....? Lol I like to start with damp hands to stop any static on my dry hands. The pentalope screws are terrible and heads strip and I have to use a small flat driver bit on them to turn.

As an Itech myself, this was an informative video with a few issues in my opinion... I would ALWAYS remove the battery connection FIRST, then pressing power button to remove any charge still in the phone, prior to removing the other flex cables. Once having the battery in place with adheasive undo the connector, reconnect the other flex cable and then the battery flex cable to be replaced last. Also if doing the repair on anything above a 6s Using a ESD mat for extra protection of the device.

Josh UA Not only that, when removing the battery its also a good idea to remove the battery opposite of the components. Mainly because you damaged the parts, its good to removed from the frame away from the parts.

This is the way you shouldnt do. Never use metal tool when splitting front and back as you will alwayd leave small marks on the casing / edges and likely will damage a PCB when using to remove battery. Use only plastic tools for this. ( ex Engineer for fixing Mobile phones)

This is the legit way to get the battery out and put the new one in. I had no problems after watching this video. No heat gun. No struggle prying. No other problems. Thanks for a thorough description if a little long winded. But necessary to explain what's going on inside the iPhone.

why does this video need to be 42 minutes long?

WOW! You could have made this video at least half the time by not repeating everything 2 and 3 times!

Many people actually require 2 or 3 verbal repeats to get it. We call them non-auditory learners. They usually learn better visually or tactfully. Other people are auditory learners and get it the first time they hear it. Who do you want to benefit from your video? Everyone or just one group?

Nicely done! Disconnect battery first. The other thing is you don’t actually have to remove the screen connectors. It’s just convenient to get it out of the way but as long as you have the opened screen supported at 90 degrees solidly, no need to remove it. Remove adhesive strips, battery, replace strips, battery, reconnect, lower screen and power on to test. The less you have to mess with these little micro connectors, the better off you are. Don’t disturb anything you don’t have to.

I made a right angle fixture to hold the phone screen at 90 degrees with a Velcro wrap and put weights on it with a lead bag. It worked great and allowed the screen to be held without putting undo stress on the screen connectors. your video was great!

Wow... What a braindead design for a phone. I like phones with easily replaceable batteries so that I can keep a couple of spare ones on charge and then swap them out as needed.

The Nokia that I had many years ago did not have games for it. It was a phone, nothing more. I've had batteries die on me such that even with a power adapter plugged into it, the phone still would not work. In these types of situations, there is something wrong with the battery and it needs to be trashed, not just recharged. As such, those portable battery packs would not work. I have had long international flights where there were no wall outlets to recharge a phone during a layover at a foreign airport, so it's nice to just keep a few extra batteries for the phone and swap them out as needed. I don't see this being possible with phones that are using this sort of battery design. For those phones whose batteries have caught on fire, I wonder if all of them have been with these hard wired type of batteries instead of the batteries that have cases around them. The companies save a couple of cents and a couple of grams by not putting the hard case batteries in the phone, but the are taking away capability that I find very useful. I wish the people who review the phones would start pointing this out as problem with the phone designs so that maybe the manufacturers will realize that it is a braindead idea.

Grumpy OldMan you act like you need a PHD to remove the battery, 30 minutes time and a 21000 mah batter pack and you don't need to switch out a battery because the battery will last and that portable battery can charge the phone up to seven times.

Excellent video, it greatly helped me to change my iPhone 6 battery today. I did not remove the screen and let its connectors in place, thus greatly simplifying the overall procedure. I just made sure the screen would remain vertical by making it lean against a large book. My battery was an original iPhone one, and I tried the trick of pulling the tab to get the ribbon out, butI never made it through: it broke in my hands and I had to seriously damage the old battery in order to remove it. Maybe I should have heated the back of the phone before proceeding. Anyway, the job is done, my phone has a decent battery life again!

Excellent tutorial, thanks for putting this out there, there's only one area i would emphasise on , when the phone is opened and the screen is lifted , firstly disconnect the battery before screen removal then after the battery is fitted, connect the battery power after the screen is connected, it really is important to do this sequence otherwise you might blow something if the screen connections touch the wrong phone connections. I learned this the hard way, i did your method and without noticing must have blown the motherboard and lost the phone, i couldn't get it working again. Hope this helps everyone out there.

Perfect! I watched it twice. First time before ordering the battery to make sure I could do it. Then when I got the battery. It worked first time. Very much appreciated, I saved at least 50 bucks compared to the repair shop and I also felt good I could do it myself. Thank you! It helps to fight built-in obsolescence and hopefully should give a longer shelf life to my 3 y.o. iPhone 6.

Just replaced a battery bu in my case t it didn't came out easily. Adhesive strips broke when I was pulling so I have to warm the back of the phone with a hairdryer on hottest setting. lol It did help a lot but still it was very hard to get the battery out! Despite that everything else went well and my phone works great again, so I won't be needing to buy a new one for a while! Thanks for posting this tutorial. Comments below were also very useful.
