The fact that you reply to ALL comments is amazing! Your videos are great and informative! I’m a subscriber. The replying to all comments though, that’s just awesome! Lots of respect brother!
I use my iphone 8 and just added filmic pro so I could use a blue tooth mic. This video is extremely helpful to me because I shoot a lot of 4k 60 and I;m hoping filmic pro will give me higher quality video. I capture a lot of fly fishing lines flying through the air, often in slow motion. As you can see, I need lots of help. looking forward to more of your tutorials on filmic pro as I have not used it yet. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VpESPYAOfTE.html
Thanks, Benett! I've been using Filmic Pro for several years now, and there's no doubt that it allows more creative control. However, I've recently switched back to the native camera app with the new iPhone 12 Pro. I think the footage just looks better from the native camera app and the color grading advantages of using Log V2 or V3 are negligible. The native app's stabilization is better than Filmic Pro, and while you can "lock" exposure using Filmic, Apple hasn't granted direct sensor access to third-party apps with the newer iPhones. I've noticed that even when I lock exposure in Filmic, it still changes -- perhaps you've noticed this too?
I think in the end you wont notice a big difference between using the stock camera or filmic pro. With the iPhone 12s dolby vision you definitely get more out of your image and have more leeway when color grading. I think when shooting interview or making a feature film, filmic pro can come in very handy as you have more control and can monitor the audio as well. I line the fact that is compatible with a lot of softwares. I use filmic remote on my iWatch a lot to live monitor which is very helpful. Yes that is a know issue with the exposure flickering even though its locked. Hopefully with future updates this will be fixed.
Great Vid :). I think the only thing missing on this video is video comparison from Apple Native App to Filmic Pro log V3. I think you will see that under difficult lighting scenarios that the Apple Native Camera will be able to get more dynamic range. I'm finding that the Apple Native app benefits from all the computational Dynamic range enhancements and Filmic Pro gets a more base sensor readout before the computational science, therefore I am finding that Filmic Pro has Less dynamic Range then you think and also I am Finding that the Log V3 picture profile Dynamic range once color corrected is the same as the Filmic Pro "Natural" picture profile dynamic range, which again is far less than the Apple Native Camera app. I think the best way to illustrate this is that Apple Cam video should look the same as filmic Pro "Natural", at least you would think, but you can see that Filmic pro natural is not at all like Apples Camera in DR. I do believe that Filmic Pro Log is faked and not a true log. Other Cam apps like ProCam8 and StaCam seem to benefit from the apples computational Dynamic Range. I have been testing this theory all week and so far StaCam with specifically the V-LOG profile turned on is the best dynamic range I can get on the iPhone, plus it has fully manual controls. Now if you dislike the computational enhancement then non of my comments apply to you :) that's my 2 cents
Thank you! Very well done. I just learned about Filmic Pro a few days ago and my immediate (and obvious) questions were: Why do I need this? Can't I do everything I need to do in the native camera app, or in the Mimo app for my OM4? I searched RU-vid for the answers and mostly just found videos explaining how to use Filmic Pro. Until now. This video answers the questions for the native camera app. I'd love to see a similar video comparing FP to the Mimo app.
Thanks Mediamannaman ! Glad you like the comparison! Well in certain cases Filmic Pro does really come in handy for example when shooting interviews. When i shoot travel videos for example the standard camera does the job for me :)
@@BenettGraezer I’m a real estate photographer. I often use my iPhone (I just upgraded to the 12 pro Max) to film Zillow walk-through videos, so maybe don’t need Filmic Pro for that. But I may buy it anyway as a hobbyist. Hopeful that you will consider my idea of a video comparing Filmic Pro to the Mimo app. Your production quality is great and you explain things clearly. You are almost to 10 K subscribers, so congrats for that! Best wishes for 2021.
iPhone camera app has no the audio meter which we don’t know the audio is recording or not, or how loud or quiet the sounds we’re recording. I depend on Filmic Pro app that has the audio meter so that it's easy to manage the sound levels while I’m recording. Should we depend on the recording audio quality of the built-in mikes on Apple iPhones?
Video, congratulations on making such an amazing video, it won another subscriber, I will continue watching with subtitles here from Brazil, big hug! 🇧🇷
So awesome that you reply to every comment! I’m a subscriber because your information and delivery is great but replying to comments and all of them, that just gave me so much more respect and
The fact that you cannot shoot at 4k50/60 in HDR is a big no for me. Especially when the native app can do it without any issue. The manual exposure is useless as well, since the exposure still change during the capture (Not the developer fault, since Apple doesn't allow to disable the auto tone mapping). After testing it for a few hours, I asked for a refund. The value for the cost was not here.
Great video! I record theme park rides including Disney & Universal and I’m and learning to record in 4k and currently figuring out how to get the best low light with great lighting when filming some dark indoor rides compared to how people use regular cameras in 4k 24-60 fps quality. For the lighting, I’ve learned how to use exposure lighting and the highest on my iPhone is +2.0 for the 2 Disneyland rides - Pirates and Finding Nemo ride! Would the Filmic Pro be worth it for indoor low light settings like theme park rides in 4k? What would be the best settings in this app to record with all the things I mentioned? I currently use my iPhone 12 Pro for my videos but I’m planning to upgrade to the 14 Pro Max this month when it comes out!!
Great job on the video 💯 Currently filmic pro has a high subscription plan so if you don’t have the app yet I would wait. I would try to use the exposure slider to reduce the iso, shoot at a lower frame rate like 24 fps and use the wide angle lens (one with the lowest aperture number). This way you will get the best low light results :)
Hey Bennett so I’m going to start using Filmic Pro for a short film. What should I do about sound? Should I use the phone audio or purchase an external digital recorder?
Hi James! To record dialogues you want to be as close as possible to the sound source. You could either get help from someone to function as a boom operator an sync the audio in post or use a wireless mic. If you want the best audio possible i recommend purchasing an external mic than using the internal one on the smartphone 📲
Glad you liked the comparison. Never used the moment camera app before. Might to a comparison on that maybe 🤔. I think one advantage that i know that the moment app doesn’t have is the software. Its compatible with the DJI OMs, you can also pair it with your apple watch, you can a lenses to you phone and so on.
Hey! I dont know If I misunderstood you or you made a tiny error at 4:30 , but the camera app does allow you change exposure by tapping the sun icon next to focus box and slide up and down :) (on iPhone original cam app)
@@BenettGraezer it is, that’s what I’m telling you. If you tap and hold the sun, then slide it, you adjust exposure without affecting focus. So I don’t know why you insist on otherwise.
Great Video Bennett. I'm a Professional Photographer and Filmmaker in Hawaii working on my 2nd Documentary for Amazon Prime. I'm considering using one of the Great new Smartphoned to shoot my next film 🎥. Do you think that's a good idea?
Hi Peter! Well it depends, do you have a budget? Does shooting with a smartphone help tell the story? and are you going for that smartphone look. I encourage anyone to shoot video with their smartphone and go beyond the limitation. Its definitely possible and if you can create a good story, i don‘t care on what camera you shoot on :)
Yesss Netflix and Hulu has had multiple shows and movies shot on iPhone 12 pro max, the new galaxy, the note 20, and the google pixel saves so much money and they were expiriementing to see if people would know and nobody even notices
Can i lock White balance on standard iPhone Camera app ? When i vlogging on ultra wide lens ,colors are random change while i moving and it looks horrible ….:-/
Hey, thanks for the video! I am using Filmic pro with logv3. It is really awesome, colors are amazing. However, I noticed that in this video you were able to shoot with log (even though it was logv2 if i’m right) AND slow the video down. As far as I know the cinematic kit doesn’t work over 30fps, so I just want to ask how you slow it down and keep the log setting on? Thanks:)
Great video Bennett - I learned a lot! I have been trying to use an external mic with Filmic Pro but not having much luck. I am using a standard 3.5mm lavalier plugged into a Lighting adapter which I then plug into the bottom of my iPhone 11. No matter which mic I choose in Filmic Pro I don't see to be capturing any sound. What would Filmic call this mic if it recognizes it? It's not Front, Back, or Bluetooth. Is it Bottom? Or something else? Thanks very much.
Thanks for the feedback. I think you are missing the SC7 which is a TRS to TRRS adapter which makes it compatible with the iPhone. In Filmic Pro (headset) should appear :) hope that helped
hello benett ! how does filmic pro log compare to apple pro res for filmmaking on iphone 13 pro ? which is better ? can i get apple pro res from filmic pro?
most people wont be shooting in ProRes because of its huge file size. LOG provides you with a flat image that gives you more flexibility when it comes to color grading and hasn’t a big file size. You can shoot in ProRes in Filmic Pro.
Thanks for your question! I made a video about this a couple of weeks ago. This should answer your question: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qTRb6bEqCpk.html
What about a cheap android phone WITH Filmic pro vs native iPhone camera (or indeed any other top camera phone) WITHOUT filmic pro? That should be an interesting video!
Just so everybody knows, this app now cost $2.99 per week, yes I said week. That is $156 per year subscription. In four years that is $624 for a frinkin phone App. I don't care how good this app is, it isn't worth that.
Will Log profile work on 11 pro? Is this the difference between 8 bit AND 10 bit? Just wondering if I should upgrade to the 12 pro if this gives much difference in video quality compared to the 11 pro?
People watching the video wouldn’t notice the difference in quality if it was shot in 8 or 10 bit. For me as a mobile creator i want to have the best possible camera to get the most out of it and 10bit is surely great to work with. Yes you have the log option with the iphone 11 pro. I think the iphone 11 pro will surely hold up 2 years but if you have the budget go for it :)
Is there any app we can shoot with Our lUTS applied while shooting ? I know we have less control and more control in post but sometimes for quick edit required camera app which allows us to shoot with our LUTS applied
Great video. I have a question. So Fil Mic Pro can solve my overexposed footage? This is the problem I always get when shooting with my Iphone xsmax. The videos look overexposed and overblown. When I turned off the HDR now I see a shadow on the right part of my shoulder from my face. What do you think?
If you shoot in HDR and work in a SDR work space in your editing software your footage will look blown out. Make sure to convert your footage from HDR to SDR to make it look normal and not overexposed.
Definitely! Since its not so expensive (filmic pro - 30$) and offers you more control over your image. If you want to take it seriously, i recommend getting a pro video app :)
You don’t necessarily need filmic pro with the pro mode, i like the option in filmic pro that you can shoot log which increases the dynamic range which gives you more details in the shadow and highlights
Can You help me? I have an issue purchasing the apps using my credit card any advised? I already got my sandmarc but i want to used the filmic pro app but sadly i cannot purchased it because of some problem it said theres an issue with my card
@@BenettGraezer thank You i already download it.,,i used my cellphone credit number to buy… now learning to it hope i can used this apps so good like you… any editing apps for video that you will recommend im thinking about lumafusion? And for the music will be?
Check out LumaFusion but try out InShot first as it comes for free. I use Artlist for all of my music, i find it one of the best places. You can use this link to get 2 months for free: bit.ly/2M4cN6a
Would 125 shutter speed on 60fps still give the same/similar motion blur as 120 shutter on 60fps? Built in camera settings have a lot of features but jumps to 125 shutter speed instead of 120.
@@BenettGraezer awesome thanks for the quick reply! My camera does 30fps @60 shutter, or 60fps @125 shutter. Sadly no 24. It's pretty versatile otherwise, does pretty much everything the app does, so not sure if it's worth the cost(and battery) for the effective motion blur.
Google Drive is a free online data storage service provided by Google. The service syncs stored files, photos, and more across all the user's PCs, tablets, and mobile devices. It offers 15 GB of free space.
Thanks! Glad you like the comparison! No I haven’t actually. I generally haven’t done any live streaming yet. I was thinking of using my Sony A7III for it. I have to look into but definitely need to check that out!
At the 2:00 mark "LOOKING EXPOSURE..." should be "LOCKING EXPOSURE..." which looks really unprofessional. With all the work you expend making one of these videos, an extra minute checking your titles and subtitles, captions, etc. wouldn't be out of line.
