Quick Update: - Correction: FiLMiC Pro does not support external recording. - With the Blackmagic camera App, you can save your camera settings as presets! - You can also record LUTs into the clip.

Filmic Pro, After selecting the focus point But if there is anything in the middle or near the camera will focus on that point instead. Even if the object are not in the focus zone. I think focus Area is broader than the frame shows.
I choose filmic pro as it has the remote function whereby i can view and record myself in another devices. I can choose the bitrate for my recording as BM can't. Aside that, i can shoot log using it since BM only support iPhone 15. It's better i get the filmic pro app at a price lower than getting the high pricing iphone 15...
I guarantee you apple’s going to release an iCamera device that looks just like the iPhone without actual being a phone. Slightly thicker, crazy sensor & even better cameras that take up nearly half the back of the device. $1,899.99 and I would just love to own one.
When using Blackmagic with iPhone 15 Pro Max at 4K60fps, I am constantly getting a flash red warning. Does anyone else have this issue when using the app? I want to change to Blackmagic, but this is prohibitive..
Good comparison :) Since the BM Camera-app is so new, and looking at BM’s history of delivering features in DVResolve, I’m guessing most (or all) of the features mentioned here will make it’s eay into the camera app sooner rather than later, as well as an android app - the lack of a split reticle for white balance and focus had me confused for a moment, coming from the Filmic legacy app, but I also found the solution you mentioned to work fine, it just sort of feels like I don’t have full control - having the option to set the focus area to center frame, and large like in filmic, and just tune the iso, wb, tint manually would give a better feeling of control - since I’m filming myself it’s hard to first set the focus by tapping, then adjusting, and hoping the focus is working - but these are minor issues that will come if enough people talk about them :)

Watching your videos all days before starting a outdoors and camping related channel… I am using iphone 12 pro max … I do not have a plan to buy any expensive camera recently … hope to buy a Gopro 12 withn 2/3 months… Brother do you have any suggestion to me about video making?

I honestly really hope black magic doesn’t make their app have a subscription!! This is super good! Especially for someone who just wants to start off with filmmaking!
It sucks that they went to a subscription model. I'm glad I purchased before they went that way, but it took a while for them to fix Legacy. A shame, since before they went to the subscription model, they updated Filmic Labs, which gave me 6k60 in 10Bit LOG color... on my Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro. Yeah, my cheap, midrange three year old cameraphone gets smooth 10bit 6k60 where my other phones are limited to 4k or 8k30. A quirk of the sensor I haven't been able to replicate on any other phone yet. I want to see if the new v7 can extract similar performance from newer models, but I'm finding the price a bit steep, especially since videography is a secondary thing for me, and not my main focus (photography).

For some reason, when briefly starting and stopping recording with the Blackmagic app, I was getting slightly different frame rates, from 23.98, 24, and 25fps which caused editing issues, which I was able to eventually fix. Am searching for a reason for this. Ideas?
You can save the luts to your icloud and then through the LUT settings in the BMC app you can select import and go to the folder where you saved your LUTs on your icloud.
I bought the Filmic Pro Legacy version. it works well. unfortunately, I don't have the latest iPhone, but I use Galaxy s22 and video is perfect(using gimbals). Filmic Pro took a pretty long time to understand the details because the reviewers do not have teaching education. some of them are good, but the Filmic pro guy is great with his sweet clear voice. To explain something, everybody has to go slow so that the audience can capture and digest it, but most of them go so fast that they are running toward the washroom to release themselves.
Hello Bennett I have a question about FilmicPro. I can no longer find my old clips from before switching to Filmic Legacy, neither in iCloud nor on my iPhone 13. Were the clips automatically deleted? Maybe you can tell me something about that! LG Walter
I like Filmic Pro, but that price is just too high. Especially when Blackmagic Camera is free forever. Not to mention, I really hate subscriptions. Right now, the only reason I'd even consider Filmic Pro is because Blackmagic haven't offered the app for Android, which I think is a massive oversight.
I've been researching camera apps lately. I've installed the Black Magic Camera app because everyone says it's good, but it doesn't seem to autofocus when taking close-ups. I think I'm more comfortable with the original camera app for taking videos, but am I doing something wrong?
As a walking example of an "amateur", I really prefer 'Dolby Vision' for much of my vacation videography. I have the necessary hardware/software to work with the ProResLog, but the 'normal' complaints about saturation and contrast fall on deaf ears. The good news is I can bounce out of black magic into the native camera app for when I really want an HDR capture of a scene.
On my legacy Filmic Pro, I can shoot log on my iPhone 13 Pro Max. Can’t do this on black magic that I know of. Wonder why that doesn’t exist on black magic for my 13 Pro Max when it did on the legacy Filmic Pro app.
Yeah, with a lot of additional hardware. It wasn't exactly shot with iPhones in hands. See video titled "Behind the scenes: An Apple Event shot on iPhone" to see some of the additional hardware used. Saying it was shot with iPhone is similar to claiming something is shot with RED camera body without any accessories.
I bought FilmicPro years ago. I use it rarely, so there is no way to justify a subscription licence for me. BCA on the other hand allows me to learn about the creative use of my iPhone without continuous payments.

Haven’t gotten the free Blackmagic Cloud to work, needs the an upgraded plan to create a cloud project… The other apps I keep on my radar are Moment Camera, CinemaP3, and Beastcam.
Ich finde Abo- oder Kaufmodelle absolut in Ordnung. Es ist doch nur eine Frage der Zeit, bis die Blackmagic App nach der Abwerbung von Nutzern anderer Apps auch Geld kosten wird. Und umsonst ist nunmal nichts. Vorteil der BM-App: 10bit-Farbspektrum und HDR bei auch 50 und 60 fps. Vorteil FP: Übersichtlichkeit und Lesbarkeit der Einstellungen bei heller Umgebung. Der Rest ist ähnlich und intuitiv.
I've been using the Black magic app ever since it came out. I also have an annual subscription to Filmic Pro. But the option of saving the footage on an external storage medium on my iPhone 13 Pro Max has a decisive advantage with 128 GB. I'm very happy with it. This excellent video has confirmed my opinion. Thanks! Yes totally with only 128GB being able to record externally is an absolute game changer and the workflow is a lso much smoother being able to just plug the ssd into your computer and edit it from there.
question. I have 14 pro max. So it is possible to record to external ssd with Back Magic App? I thought it only worked with iphone 15 pro because of the USB-C connection. Meaning the lighting on 13 pro or 14 pro is too slow to transfer the data over the Camera connection kit to an external ssd. Can you clarify?
Filmic Pro is a liar. I paid money before, but now it has been changed to a subscription system. Basic functions cannot be used. So what should I do with the money I paid?
If you bought the full pro version, you should be able to download it. I still have it on my phone as the legacy model. At least I think that’s how it works.
There is a usable version, but it has not been updated for a long time and has been abandoned. Many new functions are no longer available, at least in China. I don’t know how other countries handle it.@@scottkint
You can still get what you paid for and for free. You can't get what you didn't pay for but that seems reasonable to me. Filmic should have renamed V7 onwards as a new product which would have stopped all the hissy fits from those who want a life long free product !
I mean...Filmic Pro would have to do some pretty amazing stuff to justify their horrendous pricing model. I would put up with a lot to avoid a subscription. I actually think BlackMagic is better just on features, but price basically puts them in another league. I mean, there is probably a reason that Apple themselves not only chose BMC over Filmic for their event, but they also said they worked with their team behind the scenes...I mean, you can't get a better company to vouch for your app. I also see BMC pushing updates really quickly, and adding a lot of features. I just hope that BMC brings gimbal support and remote monitoring, that would be super nice.
