@@ivycolman Hello Ivy! We recommend refrigerating your milk. The milk carafe is removable from the machine for the purpose of being refrigerated inside your fridge- meaning you don't need to refill it daily!

It looks great! I got a similar machine from Delonghi about 12-14 years ago. The milk function has given up and there are some minor issues but it still works well enough. Might consider to update with this one though. Is is available in Japan? And what is the price range?

Great question! Sahand, founder of Terra Kaffe here. The connectivity allows for two primary benefits: (i) you get a unique level of customization with the compute power of a phone, so as good as our touch screen is (best in the biz:), we won't be able to compete with your smart phone and figured it's best to join forces as we learned from our first machine, TK-01, people LOVE to customize. (ii) you get the option for OTAs (over-the-air) updates. That enables us to take real customer feedback and push improvements to your machine without having to get a new one - like fine wine, get's better with time!

Your TK-01 review was one of the reasons I decided to splurge on one for Christmas a couple of years back. I don't think I can justify spending the cost of the TK-02, but I'm glad to see you review it. By the way, I'm always making an espresso followed by a cappuccino to get the coffee/milk balance I want. Can the TK-02 be set to make that combination my desired cappuccino drink?

You still have to put the cup in place. The only reason for an app I assume is a deep dive into the settings - which I’d think would be doable from that massive looking screen. Or maybe you put the cup in place in bed (and don’t want milk) and want to hit start before you walk in the room? I mean you’d leave the milk in the fridge overnight, walk out, attach the milk thing and then pull out your phone? I guess I’m too old school. I am going to want milk in my coffee so I’m going to put a cup in place, attach the milk thing from the refrigerator, and press go. I’m having a hard time imagining the app being helpful.

Hey there! Sahand, founder of Terra Kaffe here. Definitely a topic we heavily debated early on in the development of the TK-02. One distinction I'd make it simply having a touch display is different than the compute power you get with your smart phone, which unlocks a wide array of functions (eg, customization with new drinks and uploading espresso profiles to the machine, wake n' brew functionality, device stats, home screen customization, predictive maintenance notifications, quick access to customer support & FAQs, etc.). While not necessarily needing an app per se for OTA (over-the-air) updates, having a connected device was critical to unlock the power of OTAs. That's what enables us to take user feedback and push improvements to your machine without having to get a new one. With that said, we actually made sure all core functions of the device are possible to access and utilize via the touch display of the machine without the app, unlike some of our competitors, so as to no limit those who may not want to use it... sort of an Oregon Trail - pick your own journey approach. In any case, Hope some of this context is helpful!

So in theory I could do OTA updates, and program in my favorite brew, temp, reach out to customer support, etc. more easily from the app. And then still just walk up to it, put the cup, and milk in place and hit go without having to go through settings on the machine. I get it! Thanks!

Indeed there is a connected Siemens, but the TK-02 is less expensive, offers far more customization, and a superior design & build quality. While design is subjective, as a team that works with all ex-Apple designers, it feels rather cut & dry on the TK-02 implementing a more contemporary design language.

why is it brewing cold coffee? heat/pressure is critical for a good brew/espresso especially at the super automatic category which this thing is kinda priced in. sounds like this is all form over function. also you can automate an extremely good brew with a simple tp-link smart plug and a moccamaster which is a few hundred bucks. prep it the night before and have the tp-link smart plug automatically turn on at 8am or whenever you wake up.i would skip this terra kaffe over the luke warm brews alone.

I was referring to the previous model. This one brews at a great temperature by default of drink settings but you can adjust if need be. I like mine a bit warmer

Hey there! Sahand, Founder of Terra Kaffe here. I see your last videos with the unit were 5 months ago. Did you get a chance to experience the OTA update in April? We benchmarked against all other comparable super-autos (Jura Z10, Dinamica Plus, Miele CM6360, etc.) and actually come out at parity, if not better, in temperature against our peer group. In any case, I am sorry to hear you didn't have a good experience with your machine. Happy to chat further or even hop on a call to learn more about your experience, if of interest.

So I lost my early backer discount and won’t pay full price for this, nor would Terra honor the original price after any of the updates came out. From reading the FB Terra page many people still have lukewarm beverages and microwave their milk too. Love to chat.

just checked. 1500 USD??? Are you out of your mind??? For something that will probably stop working by the next 3 years and won’t be reparable? Those lcd screen are nice but in those devices they always end with problems. No thanks.

I feel like I don't want one of these until they come with some kind of cold storage for the milk, the idea that milk stays at room temperature in a container isn't very appealing to me. According to the USDA milk can stay out of the fridge for two hours before pathogenic microorganisms start forming, as they like to grow in temperatures between 40 to 140 degrees... So unless you're willing to refill the milk container for every coffee or keep the container in the fridge having to take it out for every coffee and connect it, then clean the connector before placing it back into the fridge. I could tell from the video the connector got coffee splash back on it so yeah, gonna have to clean that sucker up first before placing it back into the fridge... I mean, for a $1400(!!) machine that's supposed to make coffee making sooo amazing and effortless it sure seems like a hassle having to either refill or attach/detach and clean the milk container. In other words; you literally cannot wake up to a hot latte in the morning because the milk would have to stay connected to the machine while you sleep for 8 hours, keep the machine an I'll keep my money. Sorry @terrakaffe

Never buy any machine that is 100% dependent on an app. The second the company or app goes out of business, you’ve got an expensive paperweight.

Good news, the TK-02 is not 100% app dependent:) There are functionalities that are unlocked via the app given the compute power provided by a smart phone and, in general, the connectivity offers the device the ability to be updated and advanced over time with OTAs.

Hey there! Founder of Terra Kaffe here. Fair call out on the milk tube. Small tweak - the milk carafe is actually backwards in this vid, perhaps to show the port where it comes out. It actually threads around the back of the carafe and doesn't interfere with the spouts at all.

I’m confused … are these comments satire? You guys are serious? Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, should need or even want an iPhone interface to a fucking coffee maker. It’s immediately, obviously absurd. It’s comical. Or it would be if you guys weren’t being so goddamn serious about it. The world has lots of very real, very serious problems. And we’re discussing the nuances of a coffee pot with internet access? Wow.
