I followed step by step, everything you said, and it worked perfectly! I was at 63.5 out of 64 GB used space, with more than half of that being used by other. Now I'm at 10.3 out of 64 GB (without apps, but they weren't taking up that much space) used space and only 2.57 is used by other. Thank you for the info. and instructions. Its a life saver!

Thank you for this. It could happen so randomly as well. Today was the first time that I experienced this. the "Other" was taking up over 50% of my 64 GB all of a sudden. I was deleting unwanted apps etc. But just as suddenly, the 'other' decreased back to what it normally looked, just over perhaps 15 GB of the 64 GB storage. But even so, I might do this big clear out anyway following your steps, so thank you again.

IMPORTANT ERROR IN VIDEO : this guy has the paid version of iCloud storage, where most people don’t so if you’re like me you only have 5 GB of iCloud storage which is definitely not enough for all of your photos and apps. So doing this will make you lose most of your photos and app data.

Guys this video is the one you need because all my info is saved and did not need to back up. For example, messages, notes, contacts etc. Just make sure to follow each step from the video, I was scared at first that all my information was going to be gone but no, I am so happy that I found this video.

okk . hear me out . i downloaded google photos then added my google account . & all my photos appeared on there so i backed them up . then i went to settings and turned off photos for icloud . then it jus started going down 💀 idk what happened but i cleared all of my other storage and still had photos backed up to icloud . hope that helped lmao

My "Other" storage was about 40 Gb of my total 64 Gb, so it was pretty much everything. I was very frustrated and angry, I've called Apple many times and they didn't give me a reasonable solution, and because of the Coronavirus situation, all of the Apple offices in my county and nearby counties were closed. I found out that “other” goes up by deleting ur photos. It was at 14g I kept deleting photos and videos back and fourth and now it’s at 26g the more photos and videos u delete the more the storage goes up wtf

Will this work to clear "System" storage as well? my phone doesn't have any "Other" storage but 8 of 16G are taken up by "System" storage.

I think it prunes "the other" category automatically almost, if it's just filled with data from the apps. It might be better to check individual apps that have a lot of data on them and clear them out manually or delete ones not being used at all. And doing backups backups to a computer also helps clear it out a bit.

Do u need the first Apple ID. Fr eg it was originally ur Phne then u give it to me or I bought it do I need ur Apple ID or mines??

This video was very well done and straightforward. I had 32 gigs of storage space on my phone and all of it was used up. I backed up to iCloud and additionally backed up to iTunes on my PC. Then I followed his procedures to reset the iPhone; however, before I started the reset, I went into my listings of apps and made a hand written a listing on a piece of paper of each app because I knew I wouldn’t remember what they were. Once the phone came back up I was easily able to go back in and restore all of the apps one at a time. This dropped my storage from 32 gigs to 12.

my iphone system need 5.35 gb run. The "other" storage is taking up 9.65 gb. I have a 16 gb Iphone, Iphone 6s to be exact.

I’m a bit paranoid when it comes to dealing with anything that has to do with resetting. If I go through the same process, will my photos be on my phone, will my messages and contacts be on my phone? The apps will just redownload but will my data from those apps be there. For example: Subway surfers, will my high scores and the amount of coins that I have in that game, will that still be there after I reset and restore??

Yes it works, but the ‘other’ fking file just grows the minute you start using ur phone again. And my pictures are constantly on freaking iCloud and won’t download to my phone. I’m obsessed now on checking the ‘other ‘ file!

Are your photos still there even though the apps needs to be reinstalled? I’d like to do something like this because I now have iPhone 12 pro 128gb but my past pics of 4 years took up a huge chunk of my storage. Also 128gb but iPhone 7.. I should have paid a little extra for 256gb but pricing of iPhones are expensive! Didn’t think worth it.

I found a trick behind the storage problem. Basically you need to select the photos you want to delete, but before deleting them you have to airdrop them to another device. Once that’s done you can delete the photos and boom, that’s most of your storage cleared. You can even hide the photos on the other device if you don’t want others to find out. Keep in mind this only works if you have another Apple device and their storage isn’t low. I hope my weird little trick helps...

Thank you so much. This worked like a charm, after struggling for a while. Went from 25 GB "other" storage (which grew each time I deleted photos/media), down to 1.2 GB. Not in the video, but I made a redundant back up of all media just in case, using a program called "anytrans". (Since I don't have enough space in my iCloud to do that). Other than that I think this video is perfect. The main strategy to it is making sure iCloud updates everything; erase the phone; and then do *not* restore from iCloud, as that will include "other." Instead just let iCloud do its thing with each of your apps. In the app store, go to the purchased tab to download what you want again. But I definitely recommend a manual backup on your hard drive just in case something goes wrong. Thank you!
