XeniX The Gamer literally only sounds good when there is absolutely no background noise. The second there’s any, the Pixel applies a poor attempt at background noise reduction and it sounds awful.

Manlet Fitness the fix is coming in the next software update

The audio is horrible. Blocks out way too much background noise and makes the voice way too dense and tinny at the same time

Maybe they were judging on different areas than the still photos. Or, they like the more saturated colours. It's only "plain as day" during the still photo daytime shots :)

I hope you don't design a speaker, because that Pixel mic is terrible. Grainy, silibance in the treble. May sound good at first or if you have "muffled" speakers, but no, it sounds yuk after you get past the initial "it's better because it's louder and there's more treble"

+Rennie Ash. I agree. It seems that the comment section here is flooded with Pixel fanboys. It's fine if people prefer the Pixel's camera, but claiming that it sounds 'better' can only be fanboy talk. The Pixel is currently the WORST sounding phone on the market in the top tier section.

Damehuri AD yeah makes sense. As they don't need the telephoto lens to create portraits. Wide angle portraits are awesome!

There's only so much you can do with software and mics. If you use a cheap mic, it will still have high noise or uneven frequency response that sounds yuk during the peak modes.

I shoot a lot in concert. iPhone produces the best audio. No matter how loud it is the iPhone manages to get great audio.

T- Smooth well I'll hold out until they send out that software update and if software can fix what may just be terrible mics. If it Google can fix it, I'll definitely get the Pixel 2 hands down.

HighPowerEntertainment ! That's believable since regular talking always comes out quieter on any iPhone. I figure they do this to limit high frequencies in a concert setting.

T-Smooth : I never said they can't tweak it, but they cannot fix things such as inherent distortion and decibel limits. Furthermore, if software is so good, then how come the iPhone takes better low light video, and better slow motion? If it's so easy, why aren't the mics great already? Boosting saturation can be done on any screen, but it will still look like a turd if the screen hardware is not up to scratch. You think adding a colour booster is hard work and that 2 weeks is impressive? It's only impressive that a company acts that quickly to a lot of complaints. If software is so great, why doesn't everyone use Pixel 2 XL microphones for professional recordings? I'd like to see how well it would close mics drums... Please be sure that you yourself are not sounding like a pixel 2 XL microphone right now ;-)

+Chirag Joshi Portrait Lighting is just software. While it works well it’s basically a filter. The Pixel just takes the win all across this year. I am still using the iPhone X as a daily but consistently the Pixel takes better pictures. Proof is in the pictures. You can stop watching but that doesn’t change the truth.
