wow so glad i came across your video, i was thinking about getting the 3rd gen ipod. but after watching your video i'm thinking it be better getting the 5th.
Nice video as always. Please, it would be great if you could make a video explaining how to edit those CF adapters with hex editors in order to use them with our pods (those adapters with recent firmware). I've seen the explanation in some forums but never achieved to make them work. It's a pity because adapters with old firmware were a cheap and quite reliable solution.
Thanks, I have seen many iPod restoration guides and videos and somehow never saw how to solve the issue with the buttons. I have 7th gen in very good condition, the screen is not even scratched, but the center button of the click wheel is kinda sunk down. It works perfectly but feels weird. I guess it hass the foam off-centre issue. Also, I am quite surprised how easy it is to open the 5th gen compared to the 6/7th gen
Please consider a video on how to update, upgrade a iPod classic in one video to have 1) more storage like this video 2) how to install blue tooth 5.3 3) wireless charging 4) convert to have USBC 5) different operating system to include better sound quality an types of data then iTunes.. Hopefully can control via Android instead of Windows or a Mac. 6) biggest possibly best battery. 7) Since it sounds like you offer this service please post details on how to offer a donor iPod to have you do it for us.
I've been rebuilding my childhood iPod 5th Gen, and this is the BEST video I've come across! I had to fix the wires once in 2012 since the disk was coming unplugged. But now it's time for the full replacement of the disk, screen, case and battery! Thank you! :)
*. Hi Sir. Did you try to test if for battery life? How many hours of playtime did you get since the ssd upgrade? Thank you for the informative video for Ipod Classic 5th Gen!
Nice, I have two that work great but the button sticks a little. Think I might deck them out because they really come in handy when the wifi went down at work. Only thing I really missed was having bluetooth.
Hi, I bought one over 15 years ago brand new, but I don't remember what version I have. In the back it says 120 GB of space. can you assist please?. I will look at your store to see what else I can do to fix. or send it to you for repair. I live in Florida USA. Please advise. thank you.
I went ahead of myself and disconnected the ribbon cable connecting the logic board and hardrive from the logic board directly rather than the hardrive by mistake lol. I lined it back up and secured it to the logic board to the best of my ability and won't know if it is good till I order all the replacement parts at some point. I also somehow lost the tiny rubber nipple under the select button, so i just took an unused rubber earbud tip and cut to size and glued lol. Definitely should have slowed down lmao, but we'll see how it works at some point.
Thanks for the video, i have a problem... the ipod dont read the ssd :( i have the ssd and the adapter but hi showme a ipod sick and send me to apple support ... please helppp
I have a similar issue. I put in an adapter and SSD. It worked for 1 restore and read/write and then I went to write to it again and it has the sad face and the computer won’t recognize it. So I took it apart again and put a different SSD brand new out of the box and it still has the sad face. So I think it’s the adapter. I am currently waiting for a new adapter to show up to test for certain. Will update
HI pleas can you help? I wanted to replace the HD since I stupidly put the iPOD on the magnetic phone holder in my car and it fried it. So i got an SSD HD and replaced it using yor instructions and even taped down the orange ribbon cable like you showed, it was not being held firmly once I flipped the brown cable holder back down over it, so i taped it down. After I closed up the iPOd making sure all the cables were connected, I connected it to my Windows 10 computer but it still shows the sad face on the iPod.... and iTunes nor my computer will recognize it. What do I do?
What a great video, thanks! Really helpful! I have a iPod 5th gen 60gb. I definitely need a new battery and on top I would go for a iFlash SD adapter. What would be the max capacity to put in? 128 or 256gb? Thanks 🙏🏻
I'm not at the point where I need to do the majority of this except for the iflash thing. The original drive in my ipod classic 6th gen crapped the bed, so I'm just curious about one thing - instead of that clear tape, can I use black electrical tape instead? That's all I have lol.
Thank you for theGreat videos. I have a 5 gen, that looks like it works in every way but I get no sound from headphone jack. all is clean and I tried several headphones but still no sound. I read somewhere that it may be the sound chip / motherboard. Any words of encouragement?
Hi, what part would you recommend that I would need to fix my Classic 5th Gen? Everything is in great nick and it has never been opened or worked on. The LCD, Click Wheel, HDD, operate however I don't hear music when I play a song. I do hear the click sounds though. Thanks mate. Appreciate your response.
I want fresh hard drive for these, new updated ones. Hard drives last longer. You let an ssd sit for a year or two and it loses data, let a hard drive sit for 10 years it still has it all. They only sell ssd upgrades for these now.
if you type the hard drive model number in on aliexpress or ebay you may find a replacement. Or even just search for 2.5 inch zif hard drive you should find something
Yes! i have a mail in repair section on my website where you can book it. Just add the repair to cart, click checkout and then it will give you the address to send it to. You can send it in from anywhere in the world and there is also an option to pay after the repair is complete if you would prefer
I bought 5.5 a few years ago and it had been sitting in a drawer since new . Been cased since I got it and it looks almost like new. But battery is definitely nearing death. :) Haven't opened yet. But is the video the same for a 5.5 enhanced ??
I have an iPod classics installed with 3 x 256GB SD CARDS that connect to MERCEDES BENZ car stereo system via the 30pin Apple connector. It cannot play for more than 1 hour while the iPod battery runs flat. Battery drains faster than the play even though the iPod indicates the battery is under charging. Do u have a solution? Thanks
Most of it yes as they are very similar. But i do have a separate video on the 6th/ 7th gen. The biggest difference is how you open it. Also the green msata and cf card adapters that i show in this video dont always work properly on the 6th and 7th gen, i would recommend using the iflash adapter instead for those models.
One serious question, please respond Using ssd, wont it heat the ipod and drain mkre battery? Need help as i am thinking to replace with either ssd or hdd as suggested by experts
yeah the SSD will drain more battery. I would recommend to use an iflash adapter with an SD card for better battery life. And a 2000 or 3000mah battery as well if you can
thanks for this video mate. i loved my old 60gb ipod black 5th gen years ago. about a year now ive had a second hand white 80gb 5th gen ipod from CEX and paid £80 for it. it worked fine to start with then i started getting ink lines across the screen. so i need to replace the display. also waking up the ipod is damn slow because of the HDD. also ive had the ipod freeze on me many times and cant hold menu button and center button to reset so i let it die and then charge it back up when i get home from work. i want to find parts and replace everything. the back cover, the front, the battery, the logic motherboard, and SD card. i did get ipod touch when they first came out and i noticed that ipods after the 5th gen were not as loud. i have pretty shit hearing and this ipod 5th gen is my go to. i wonder if u can add bluetooth connectivity so u can add wireless headphones? edit: also the center button on my ipod doesnt click well.
I just bought a new ssd ipod online and was blown away by how slow and sluggish it was compared to my original. I dont know what they did wrong but it froze my computer and i had to return it. Made me a lil skittish about getting another one. I will probably just get another regular hard drive.
Thanks, I have a 5th and 7th gen around the house, will try this. My collection is mostly ALAC so I’m excited about the idea of terabyte+ storage on these things.
I Have a 5th gen that runs perfect, still has that static cling plastic that comes on it when its new so the front is perfect, minor scratches on the back, black 80 g , what would this be worth if I was willing to part with it? I bought it and put it right in a case and plugged it into my car, controlled it through the stereo so the buttons have not been used much and again have the original protective plastic still on it. , maybe has a few hundred hours on it, then sitting in a drawer . This seems like it would be perfect for one of these upgrades as it would be like new. Thank you
This is all great, but my dock connector probably needs to be replaced first. It only charges with one specific non-apple charger and it doesn’t connect to iTunes via a usb to dock connector
At 12:24 you mention the MSata drive consumes the most power of the drive options. If I upgrade with the MSata, how much battery life could I expect with the IPod Classic? Does the MSata drain the battery within an hour or could I still get at least 3 hours on the battery?
It depends on the battery you use. With the standard one it will still last more than 3 hours. I would always recommend using either the 2000 or 3000mah battery if you can though, it should last for a few days of straight music playback with one of those even with the msata drive.
@@partspluspods3689Hi, thanks for the great guide! Could you please provide a link for such big batteries which can fit the 30gb case(5.5 gen) and one for 60gb(5 gen), as currently I am upgrading both for the family with 128gb msata which you advised?
