0:21 Here you can see that Sendo's punch was going fast as shown with the speed effect enveloping his punch, but Ippo's Dempsey Roll scatter through the arena, representing that Ippo is on a whole level ahead of Sendo with his technique.
They were pretty even lol. The smash is a move that requires a lot of movement and windup so it was bound to happen that ippo would just simply weave to the left. But still this era of the anime was golden and v1 dempsey roll is something i’ll never forget. Seeing ippo improve so much in the manga as to making a newer version of the dempsey roll and using it against Volg was a sight for sore eyes until Sendo had to stop the sparring session as both Ippo and Volg got way too heated up lol.
the point of the dempsey roll is to go outside of the opponents vision, to hit from their blind spot but ippo is still wide and clear for sendo to just interrupt, small mistake there.
I mean, it's a simple matter. I bet you, nor anyone, could react to that Dempsey roll after a gazelle punch, like, legit. Like, he was just stunned there due to how strong the gazelle punch was. That is why he couldn't interrupt.
@@iililmac6268 even then its still a mistake because ippo needs the power from his legs and momentum of a wide swing and he didn't do that, simple matter right?
@@BruhBot-jp8ev nah because in the anime its literally SAID that thats what the dempsey rolls objective was, and in the anime, ippo does get out of the opponents vision, using his legs to make pivots and swinging his body to go inside and out of the opponents sight, happens all in the pre sawamura fight btw, where kimura tries to counter it but says "its like sticking out to reach a live grenade"
@@zentax5876 i mean, you're probably talking about the new dempsey roll, the old one just comprised of you weaving back and forth and easy to intercept if your opponent was a counterpuncher though, still, it was pretty still hard to intercept the old one, since if you weave and bob your head as fast as it can be as an ordinary would be moving in first person, you should think you can't catch the full grasp of the body movement as well when the head is blocking most of it, and of course you can't attack the body since it's a full crouch movement while your opponent is bent forward towards your face, sure, it takes mass to perform a full body swing, but then sendo wouldn't have seen it coming since the swing is blocked by ippo's head and arms, sendo was also dazed during this fight, you also notice how ippo's still moving pretty fast in slow motion? he only took five seconds to deliver the blow in slow motion, which is pretty impressive for a guy that's weighed by their swing at that point while staying still, but then if you took his footwork training and muscle mass training, saying that: it's completely natural for him to move that fast
