'We are going to play a song that will thrill and amaze you musically, and melt your mind with lyrical content and presentation, then we will say thank you and goodnight...and walk off the stage as if it's no big deal."
In my youth I was raised on 70's prog. For me, this is truly an exceptional piece of music-a whole body of work, and a magnificent live performance. This is one fantastic band.
Prog rock has never been "huge" and never will be. It will instead be listened to for many generations after the "huge" music is forgotten dust along history's road.
@@joepverstappen707 Are they? Really?? I don't think so when you look at this band compared to many other Progressive rock bands that have recieved much greater accolades and notoriety.
I saw IQ play this live last Saturday on the 20th anniversary show of Dark Matter at Bury. An amazing experience. Many were choked up- we have waited so long year after year at IQ gigs for the reappearance of Harvest. Fantastic performance of one of the THE great prog rocks in my 63 years. This film from 19 years ago sends shivers down my spine. Stunning!!!!
I've always been a huge Yes and Genesis fan, but these guys are right there. I'm 71 years old now, and I have a hunch I'll go to my grave not having seen IQ play live, and it may be my biggest regret. This is a really great band.
Yeah, they're out there...in England, Germany , Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden...doesn't do me much good here in northern California. Who knows? I'd never thought I'd get to see Steve Hackett live, but we have tickets for 2/22/18 in Berkeley.
Noel Doyle oh yes! Seen Steve Hackett live twice in the Netherlands. Fantastic band, Steve himself still got it! Enjoy That! As for IQ, maybe next year. They will do a new album halfway next year and probably follow-up with a tour. If not, Just come to the Netherlands on holidays ;) they usually play in a town called "Zoetermeer", venue "de boerderij".
That´s right; it´s music on the very best musical level like Yes & Genesis (I have all the songs from these bands). If you´re searching for such music please listen to following bands: CAMEL / TRANSATLANTIC / SILHOUETTE / RIVERSIDE / LEE ABRAHAM / DAVID MINASIAN / KARFAGEN. It´s all PROGRESSSIVE ROCK, but unfortunatelly to unknown.
as an avid prog rock fan for for 40yrs ive just came across iq in the last couple of weeks and this track alone puts them up with the rest of the great bands of the seventies a class song well done iq long live prog rock i wonder why they never became huge like yes or even in the latter days of prog rush
Found IQ while scrolling RU-vid, and WOW!!! being a fan of Yes and Genesis, I fell in love with this band. The complexity of the music. Why didn't these guys make it bigger than they did? People have heard of Dream Theater, who are a great prog band, but IQ and the whole of prog bands don't get the praise they deserve. Please keep making music.
Wait untill you get in to the rare dvd collectables. And yes they are incredible. Your question aswered, they are part time Musicians, and this is their hobby. Most band members have a different trade and job to pay the bills.. That makes them even more valid, till the end of time.
Short answer Prog rock's heyday including mass popularity to the extant possible was the 70s, maybe into early 80s, then fell out of popular favor and radio airplay other than occasional plays on alb7m or classic rock stations if you are lucky, more college stations if ever nowadays
I'm completly hook to this band since i discoverd them six month ago. My english not good enough to express all the qualitys of this band. I wihs i've discovered them a longtime ago.
Awesome, Fantastic, Brilliant, Magnificent, all the superlatives for this GREAT team of talented musicians. IQ are as good as any of the Prog giants of the 70s.
Without a doubt one of the best prog rock bands in the u.k. Love this track and the Dark Matter album. I.Q are still recording superb music and can well recommend the last three albums.
Been Into IQ since "lush attic" i have grown with the band, from the days of "are you sitting comfortably " to this later content. Faultless in every respect, while other prog bands cease to exist IQ have only gotten better with age . Musicianship at its utter best. I feel drunk on the air like fresh red wine. Superb quality 🎶🎵🎵🎶👍
I had the great pleasure of being there at NEARFest in '05 to see this. One of my favorite prog bands - it is uncanny how close to the album version this is! Many bands simply can't pull off all the parts/layers/intricacies live as the studio version had!
I just discovered this video and I'm going to watch it again right now!! Pete Nichols: ''contrary to popular belief this is not bashing America'' Me: Of course it is (and they deserve it) Great song! I always love to see them play their music in a quiet way. I don't see "show" or egos in their performance, only virtuosity. This is one of my favorite IQ songs (and there are many of them that I love). Reminds you of "A plague of lighthouse keepers" or "Supper's ready"? Especially in the 9/8 ending.
Recordings do not do them justice. One of the best live prog bands ever. I was at this concert. I saw them at Progstock 2018. The definitive highlight of the weekend.
Keeps the tradition of progressive ART Rock... You can find GENESIS ,and PLEASE WITH Peter Gabriel, YES, MARILLION, KING CRIMSON, GENTLE GIANT, VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR... What a great HUGE BAND.... BE HAPPY WITH US!!!!! My HUG for you..."GOOD STUFF" (my name) from Berlin and Koh Phangan ..
Wow, what a flawless rendition of such a great song. Well done guys. 69stepe, thanks very much for posting this. Now - please do Further Away live! It's one of your best songs and I can't find it live anywhere.
For years and years a great Band with in every position strong quality personal. I like the songs very much aswell. will visit their coming concert in Zoetermeer "De Boerderij" have been 3 times to concerts of them. This is a awesome song .....
I. First Of The Last Long before the living past Had ripped it all apart Something still remained Until It flashed back to the start Where it stands, nobody saw Behind the blackest eyes Show them how you're stronger now It pays to advertise wisely Day after day with you in my head I said some things I shouldn't have said For reasons unknown that I now forget I gave you no love, which I now regret What I'd give to hear again Those everlasting songs Why did all the accidents Contrive to fall at once? Only day after day With you in my thoughts I never knew time was so short For once in my life I wasn't alone With blood on my hands, How could I have known? Used to be the great white hope Once I walked on water Now I barely stay afloat Balance out of order With every sympathy worn away Who can I return to now? For the time that I have left I scan that cold horizon Searching for a kindred soul, Someone to rely upon We disconnected and Heaven sent Sheltered in dead air, Hidden everywhere II. The Wrong Host The sky lights up above America The world is lost but loves America When the eyes of children See the ones left standing And the rest begin to finally understand The hand of God defends America And who would not defend America? We've got light on our side We're in pole position So praise the Lord And raise the ammunition high Raise it high Hide where you can We will shoot you where you stand I've walked a million miles Upon an open road And once in every while Without the will to carry on Hours held me too long In one location An old familiar tale, A glory to behold A work of genius, The greatest story ever sold As you sign on the line, As you do what you're told All you sell is your soul I've been this way before I've seen it many times Collision on the track The fiction turning into fact No-one dares to look back Best you start to prepare For the harvest ahead All you lose is yourself III. Nocturne I'm brought to life with a series of shocks I realise that you are gone from my life And still I cling to the fear of the dark Don't follow them for They don't care how you are And I'm finding a way of being Accepting life all alone And I'm hoping I'll wake up seeing A way to live on my own It wasn't hard to believe in the lie Although I've come to know it wasn't my fault Why does the world continue to spin While everything around me grinds to a halt? And I'm finding a way of being Accepting life all alone And I'm hoping I'll wake up seeing A way to live on my own IV. Frame And Form Mine is a real fine line I get harder the higher I climb Shine like a star so bright Anybody can see anytime No-one will want to follow This will be gone tomorrow We enter an age of permanent doubt Where we communicate without words But I must be heard So I cut through the smoke and the noise Mine is a real fine line It imagines it's one of a kind Goodbye to all expression Farewell to superstition We enter an age of permanent doubt Where we communicate without words And the noise expands As it covers the lie of the land Shine like a star so bright Till we shut out the light, Put out the fire Cut through the smoke and the noise Lately I've been talking to myself Been remembering and doing little else The road ahead is anything but clear Last time around, where did we go from here? V. Mortal Procession What about some golden hours? I was alive, certainly you were wrong Anyone can be persuaded Given the time, we all scream alone What about this good for nothing season again?, Everything's come and gone And I can't believe that I'm not watching you I'm in a sorry state Return to ordinary thoughts now If you can The words I hardly understand Gather 'round me while I wait What about those colder rewards Arming against lost intelligence? Anyone who saw me crawling there Would have known that I was normal once Return to ordinary thoughts Too young to take the stand But old enough to kill anyone HA! In the days when love divided up the looks No drastic means were used Like rod and hooks To enhance what nature's sculptor Had designed No augmentation needed to refine In the valley of the dollar, we rejoice For plastic is the currency of choice And beauty born is strictly for the birds Your cash is fine but credit is preferred When I held myself aloft, I walked across the water Now I barely cut across, Lives are getting shorter And they open up another door To a border far below For the time that I'm allowed, There's a new horizon But a soul as cold as ice Is nothing to rely upon If I'm hanging onto angels' wings Then I'm safer in the air Do I still qualify, suspended from on high? No other sanctuary have I VI. Ghosts Of Days And when the eyes of children See past the ones left standing And the time has surely come To understand who we are Slowly the fires are burning Bearing their silent witness And the living past returns To reap the Harvest of Souls
Peter may not have the absolutely best voice, technically. But he writes some of the absolute best vocal melodies around. Beautiful, melancholy, biting. I'll bet the band is probably rethinking whether this is an anti American song, or not, after Nov 2016...
Viva IQ.
