I have never seen anyone talk about this! This was one of my very first cameras. I used to plug it into a portable VCR that strapped to your back so that I could take it to the playground. I shot a lot of short (terrible lol) films as a young kid with this camera.
I had one of these as a kid. I was always intrigued by how the infrared sensor made things look different; for example dark clothes could look white through the camera, or you might be able to see through some fabric that you can't with the naked eye.
For those hunting for a true IR camera, a Google Pixel 4 with Hedgecam installed has full access to the face-scanning IR camera (true IR rather than hybrid/near-IR, like the Tyco) A little bit more pricy but the phone was crap so it goes for pretty damn cheap these days! Plus it's a phone, so built in battery + monitor of course :) These run about $75-$150 on eBay if you don't care about carrier locking (if you're just using it for the camera, the carrier doesn't matter at all). That's a pretty good price compared to the Tyco + a 6-pack of rechargeable AA's + a charger + a DVR + wiring a cable yourself ☺️
So cool I never heard of these before. Would be cool to film a horror short with this. Funny that you came out with this because we just did our podcast on RC Cars and Tyco was certainly king with the RC Cars
Fascinating camera. Didn't know they made little DVRs like that, might need one for some analog stuff I have on the back burner. Have you tried an ND filter on the camera to help in the sun?
Dave this is awesome! I too have a small collection have a small collection of "art cameras" I call them. Vidste.r... cuz I had one as a kid... had to get a PXL2000, and I've always heard of this one but never gave it a thought because of being tethered, and figuring it was basically like a pinhole security camera. But the IR thing is super cool. I'll have to keep an eye out for one to do this amazing setup you made. The footage looks great.
yes! Your video was really helpful with showing how the lens macro can be modified! I experimented with that, but put everything back to factory settings so it didn't make it into my video. I'll add your link to the show notes!
hey great video i got a bit confused with the 3.5mm lead from the toyco to the dvr will it work with audio recording if i just connect a 3.5mm jack lead between the dvr and the tyco. im not technical and wont be able to switch wires/alter/edit the 3..5mm lead like your screenshot of the the 3.5mm lead if it needs an alteration to record audio is there a 3.5mm lead with this alteration available for sale somewhere?
Sorry for the confusion, the trouble is the connection is very specific to the Tyco cam. You could experiment with some differnt cords, but from what I can tell only custom cables will offer the required connection conversion.
@@knoptop so without customizing the cable ill get no sound or ill get bad sound? if i was to get an electrician to customize the cable what would i ask for? apologies for all the questions im just not very technical and want to know everything so when i purchase and setup i can get straight to work without technical problems
I bought the camcorder and mini dvr and I used a rode trs to trrs cable but when I recorded all i got was a black video with noisy audio. I pulled out the trs out cable slighty and i got video for a second but it went away. When i tried it do it again i only got black video. Do you know how to resolve this issue?
it's going to be the the wiring, If you got the same recorder as in this video it should have come with diagram and 2 connectors with bare wires. You could use those to make a cable that connects the channels to the correct place. reference 2:41 for the video out of camera (the colors are just for reference and may not be the same as the colors on your wires)
@@GerardoSanchez-tv4pt I haven't had a chance to test more options. I was hoping someone with more audio experience might comment to help. I'll try to find an updated fix
