I do agree that the old car was more fun to hotlap but in terms of close racing, the new car is about 10 times better ^^

The new car is great for close racing without a doubt! I'd say the slipstream is a little too much, a 1.4 - 1.6 second range is pretty extreme, BUT besides from that, the new car is definitely better to battle with others in!

Great video mate, also enjoyed the old car more to be honest. iRacing has become a bit filled with "easy to drive and good to race" cars, at least speaking of the popular series. I love me some Nissan GTP, Audi 90, FR3.5, or back then the old 991 Cup car. It's just so much more rewarding to just drive them, even on your own. And a good ol' scrap leaves you shaking because you feel like you could lose the car at any given point. :)

Absolutely! I'm with you there, I'll always prefer racing a sketchy car for the challenge aspect. I find it super rewarding when you finally develop that technique to keep the car underneath you consistently. ...or in the case of the Nissan GTP.... Until you THINK you can keep the car underneath you 😅

Nice video! Without having direct knowledge, but having read a LOT about this, I understand that real world drivers have said in the past, repeatedly, that the 991 on iRacing was unrealistically difficult to drive and that, although to be really fast you had to be tidy on the real world 991, it still allow you to throw it around with confidence, unlike in iRacing. So, the impressions that came out this switch is that the 992 is much easier to drive for two reasons: the real world 992 is easier too, due to its improved front suspension and wider and longer wheel base AND iRacing has also improved the tyre model / grip to more realistic levels.

I still find the locking behaviour of the 992’s brakes peculiar, keep hoping it’ll get adjusted by iRacing.

Interesting, anything in particular that it's doing? I've done a bunch of racing in this new car now and haven't ran into any problems tbh so I'd be keen to learn!

@@BeauAlbert Probably user error on my part but I get an occasional weird lockup at the end of the braking phase. And a bit like the old car once it’s locked it’s hard to recover whereas I’ve heard real life drivers say that’s not the case with the 992, it’s one of the traits of the 991 that Porsche fixed.

@@MrMarlby Ahh right, gotcha. I think that is just an iRacing issue tbh, i've noticed on NTMV7 when you lock, it does seem a lot less recoverable then previously. Still not as bad as the Audi R18 though! I'm absolutely convinced when you lock up in that car, that it's 100% unrecoverable :P

I mean the development makes sense, when considering the PSC is sort of a stepping stone towards GT3/GTE

I always saw psc as a standalone series where you can have even more fun than in gt3/gte because of the same car deal

It is definitely more aligned to that career path than before! The 991 was sooo different to the GT3's that it had very little correlation for those wanting to make the step up to B-Class racing

The 991 is the most satisfying car to drive. It's hard but when you get it right it's so satisfying. Plus the sound. It's the same thing with the radical sr8 vs sr10. Sr8 was so raw. I'm so confused why it doesn't have AI race. They used to say it's because they need the data but now the new super formula comes out and AI is available straight away. A step backwards in experience for sure. Same with the 992...it's just dull in comparison

Would agree that if I've got the track all to myself, or I'm in a very trustworthy battle pack, then I'd take the 991 despite that bloody diff over the 992 as something to differ from conventional GT driving for the extra edge that it has P.S. I spy with my little eye some familiar replay footage :P

I love the 991 because i get to collect a lot of freebies when others drop like flies throughout a race either from spinning or locking up.

I love this Video, I didn't realise the 991 was faster in the straights than the 992, but if Iracing want the money, (which the do) you are left with the option of don't update and lose the money and PESC or update it and keep PESC as the only WC road championship, I still feel like the 992 keeps the fun, but I have seen massively larger field spreads from s3 to s4, which to me indicates that those who are used to the 991 will be massively quicker in the 992 by a mile.

I have nothing wrong with them updating to new cars, in fact it's something I'd like to see more often! It's more just this is such a different car to drive, as if it's an entirely new class and ruleset to drive (which given its Porsches own series, they can do what they like in that regard 😛 )

I struggle to see how an improved car thats better to race is undesirble compared to a car that wants to kill you every turn.

All comes down to personal preference! The new 992 feels quite easy to drive in my opinion, and is less "exciting" to drive. Absolutely the new car is amazing to race with, but to drive solo with no one else on track, it's not the car I'd choose 🙂
