I’ve always been pretty good and aggressive with my stops and it seems to work. My problem is I don’t seem to get in and out as fast as others though. This was very helpful.
I built me a button box with 3 way momentary toggle switches. Up is 2 tires down is 3, up for 2 gallons down for 5 and so on. Also put a button for clear and fast repair. That helped me a lot to stop fumbling with a mouse trying to make adjustments. 3-d printed up the box bought a joystick control board and switches off Amazon, each box pry cost me $20-25 to build and look cool.
One thing I have learned with the NTM (Im talking specifically on the Next Gen Cup cars. I cannot speak to the trucks or xfinity) is it seems to take several laps to get the tires up to temp and optimal performance. I think this is important to keep in mind when considering pitting during a late race caution. As a general rule of thumb (it varies slightly track to track) I use 5 laps as a guide. So I know it will probably take approx. 5 laps to get the benefit of new tires vs. old tires. So for example - caution comes out and there will be 15 laps to go when the field takes the green on the restart. Realistically I will have 10 laps to gain position as the first 5 laps of the run will be used to get the tires up to temp. I feel like this is an important thing to keep in mind when making those critical late race pit decisions.
12 years in, and my single biggest hate in iRacing, are drivers who run through all the pit boxes. It absolutely drives me nuts. I recall a race where I was leading the race, NIS Fixed at Pocono many years ago, (I remember it mostly because rarely am I leading), but just as I reached my box and turned into it, a guy came steaming up the inside and hit me. So whilst cars are not solid on pit road, they are at certain times. The guy didn’t mean to hit me, I assume he thought he was immune to being hit, or hitting anyone, but there we are. Even without that issue, seeing cars racing through all the others just looks so goofy and destroys all my immersion. It should be protestable, or make all the cars solid on pit road except for the boxes immediately ahead and behind of our own pit boxes.
@@DJYeeJay Two tires stops are so underrated in the sense that I always hear negative things in the chat about two tires but I've made so many spots over my oval racing time with two tires. Nice vid by the way, haven't seen one on pit stops like this.
I'm wondering, Specifically for the Next Gen, but really all 3 main series cars. What the best way to optimize launching out of the pit box. I have seen some build up to a curtain number of lights or rpm.then drop the clutch, I have tried just launching but Idk how to do it fastest to where you get the best launch back to speed.
Another tip: I've recently turned off all of the pitcrews EXCEPT my own via a setting in renderDX1.ini, "MaxPitObjsToDraw=0". Only my crew is visible, all others are hidden, making it much easier to FIND my pitbox, especially on a crowded pit road.
