A Kariz كاريز is one of a series of well-like vertical shafts, connected by gently sloping tunnels. They create a reliable supply of water for human settlements and irrigation in hot, arid and semi-arid climates.
The qanat technology is known to have been developed by the Persian people sometime in the early 1st millennium BC and spread from there slowly west and eastward.
The value of a qanat is directly related to the quality, volume and regularity of the water flow. Much of the population of Iran and other arid countries in Asia and North Africa historically depended upon the water from qanats; the areas of population corresponded closely to the areas where qanats are possible. Although a qanat was expensive to construct, its long-term value to the community, and thereby to the group that invested in building and maintaining it, was substantial.

A technology proven over thousands of years still functioning as well as it always has. Technology does not have to be new to be astoundingly useful and functional. God bless the intellect of the Iranians.

Awesome! I spend a lot of my down time playing around on Google Earth. While looking around in Iran I noticed several trails of what appeared to be craters. After several hours of searching the Middle East lands I found and marked dozens of these trails, still not knowing what they were. I noticed that all the trails led to population centers so I believed them to be test wells and where the town or village is located is the location of the best supply of ground water. This video just happened to pop up in my suggestion feed and I feel like I've hit the lotto jackpot!! What an amazing story of an amazing people. Thanks for the upload!

Magnificently brilliant! Modern societies waste untold resources implementing wasteful systems when the most efficient technology has been around for centuries; but of course it's all about profit these days and NOT the survival of humanity.

Iran's convulsions look so ugly to us in the West, ====================================== so it is good to see something truly positive that pre-dates the recent tragedies. I hope men will be found to carry on this tradtion for centuries to come. I know that Iran has a heart that is being suppressed by powerful forces, but I am certain that one day Iran will be free. .

I dont understand why a mighty country like Iran does not turn these dry places without life as he said in the vdo into more plantation landscapes. turn these dry desert like landscapes into green paradises. Israel is already turning much of its deserts into farmlands. It is possible. I think the Iranian people would want that too.

@Persianboychannel
@Persianboychannel 4 года назад
Kariz كاريز is one of Iranian ancient technologies which still using in Iran villages. The word Qanat is Arabic and they don't have such a history and technology. Some old Persia books translated to Arabic then to the other European languages. Perhaps Canal is one of those words.

How did they prevent transmiting disease from the died animals which fall down into qanat?
@Persianboychannel
@Persianboychannel 9 лет назад
vahid ghadirzadeh Probably they could prevent at the first place, protecting the Wells from animals.Hope you know some Qanats are still active in Iran and producing water for villages which surrounded by deserts.
@comradethoth9629
@comradethoth9629 7 лет назад
vahid ghadirzadeh Im sure most had covers to protect the mother wells from intrusion. As far as the distribution area goes (I.e where water was sectioned off to different houses), I'm also quite sure this was located in a specific building which would almost certainly have ways to prevent animals from getting to it.

Just shows how clever and resourceful humans are, and it was men who did it all, as apart from giving birth to these male children who grew up into the men who did it women had zero contribution.

In Ancient Iran women had rights which no body had it. There are lots of women in ancient time which were architect, engineer, army commander, navy commander and so. Go to history you will see most of them.

In ancient Persia, women enjoyed a level of gender equality unmatched even to this day! Female emperors ruled over the Sassanian Persian Empire. Many ancient Persian cities and states were ruled by women and had their army totally under control of female commanders in order to insure loyalty. Just some examples : 1-Arteshbod Pantea - Commander of the Persian “Immortal” Army 559 B.C 2-Commander Apranik of Sassanid Army, Great Persian Patriot and Nationalist 632 AD 3-584 B.C. - Mandana was the Queen consort of King Cambyses I of Anshan and mother of Cyrus the Great, ruler of the Persia's Achaemenid Dynasty (the 1st Persian Emperor and the writer of the first declaration of human rights in the globe, named The Cyrus Cylinder). There are references to Mandana's death as 559 B.C. in the history books. The name “Mandana” means: Eternal. 4-485 B.C. - Artemisia I: became the ruler of Halicarnassius (A Greek City-State and a colony of Persian Empire). She ruled under the overlordship of the Persian Emperor Xerxes I (Kheshayar Shah). She was the legendary Grand Admiral and leader of the Persian Navy, She was Xerxes' great love. A great powerful, independent and intelligent woman who won many battles during the Achaemnid Dynasty Era. You can see the spirit of Cyrus in the sky at the background of the painting. She is a living legend and a role model for Persian Women. The name “Artemisia” means: The great speaker of truth. and many more if yo want to check all just search for it.

Just for your info:Iran, commonly known as Persia in the Western world is home to one of the world’s oldest continuous major civilizations. Throughout the Persian history, women contribute a significant role in each era. The ancient Persia shows the great participation by women in all facets of life. Many cities and states of the ancient Persian Empire were ruled by them, and also had their army totally under control of women commanders. The significant role of women in Ancient Persia was both terrified and fascinated. They were very honored and revered and were treated like goddesses esteemed as mothers of creation before the imposition of the Judaism, Christianity, and especially Islam. This article just is a little glance to some most famous, beautiful and brave Persian queens, who wisely run the country for thousands of years. This partial list of historical Persian Queens, Princesses and Empresses and other women warriors runs from the legendary Amazons.
