@3:44, was that offside? The replay suggests Baggio was well onside! Maybe the officals thought that Schillaci got a touch, but he didn't. @5:31, what a stupendous shot from Schillaci, listen to that smack against the crossbar! This really was his world cup. Looks like it hammered down onto the goal line. Thanks for these great uploads.
Baggio was well onside. If you pause the action @3.49, the ball, in flight, can be seen on the right-hand-side of the screen. Baggio was approx half a yard on side. Italy was also robbed of Berti's goal (great header off a fantastic Baggio pass) in the third place game against England.
No it was not offside, neither was the 89 minute goal that was also ruled out. I am from Ireland but we were well beaten here, only one chance on target (Quinn, from a super cross by McGrath). 3-0 would not have flattered Italy. They should have won this world cup, leaving Roberto Baggio on the bench until extra time against Argentina has to be one of the most baffling decisions ever taken by a manager. Maybe he was not fully fit (not surprising given some of the tackling here).
As an irish man watching the game, it made me so proud to be irish that night, and a big rip to schillaci, so sad to hear the sad news, even though he knock us out of the quarter final he was a legend,
Jesus Christ that was a penalty at 6:24 no offside! And yer man from Stans free was right on top of him when he hit it. I'd forgotten what a homer this ref really was!
Lol what a reach. Ireland only gets anywhere if luck is on their side, that was offside & this Italy team was superior, they only did enough to win, they could have thrashed Ireland
@@jackmurphy6864 We played horribly that game specificly, like Romania was around the same as Italy and thanks to Patrick bonner we defeated them, the goal that we lost to was sort pf a mistake,
We’ve had matches like this Algeria v Germany 1982 Cameroon v Argentina 1990 Ireland v Italy 1994 A World Cup favorite has a bad opening match. They come back to finish second or third in the group but somehow get their second wind and sneak past tough competition in the knockout stage only to lose in the final
A lot more than that. Italy had 2 perfectly good goals ruled out for offside. Ireland (which 8 of the 13 were foreign), were very fortunate in this game.
Ireland should've went to three at the back for the second half ... drop mcgrath back to defense and beef up the midfield to five. Aldridge could've remained on the pitch to spearhead the midfield attack with both Quinn and Cascarino up front .
Why the poor editing on the goal, disappointing as I've wanted to use in my stories but can't because of the dismal editing of the goal's buildup. Also some of the goals that were ruled out are missing the buildup and we can't see that they were in fact wrongly ruled for offside. I'd say Ireland's chance where they were wrongly called for offside would not have resulted in a penalty, even in this soft woke era with VAR, but Italy would certainly have had at least three goals.
@@jackmurphy6864 Don't make excuses lad, you're some Irelander anyway, but Italy failed at the expense of the Soviet Union, and they were far, far past their past in the 90s compared to the 86-88 team, in fact, the majority of players left the Russia after communism collapsed in 1991. Italy should've qualified as a group of Netherlands-Germany-Italy would've been epic.
@@elmariachi11 Not from Ireland (don't make assumptions, lad ;) )and not making excuses - just telling it how it is. And even if I was from Ireland, that would have zero relevance to my point. It was far harder to qualify back then than it is now. Italy shouldn't have qualified - they weren't good enough. But nowadays they'd have been through in 2nd or even lower. Those qualifiers were all played before the collapse of the Soviet Union, were they? Only 7 teams qualified back then, so the pressure was on all the time. Not like today where average teams can get through in 2nd or 3rd or via other methods.
@@jackmurphy6864 Ireloser name, ireloser, no two ways about it. And yes, you no hopers weren't there in 92 either, your hideous kick n rush sadly was in 88 and 90. Italy was by far one the top 5 teams in the world around that time, 3rd best tied with France around 92, the Serie A was strongest and best league in the world and attracted all the big stars, seriously, La Liga was nothing in comparison and the "Premier League" didn't even exist. There was zero reason for Italy no to have easily qualified for Euro 92, but laziness and stupid internal quarrelling, as it is still today, was their downfall.
