The constitution does NOT say a woman’s place is in the home……it says, IF a woman chooses to be a homemaker to raise her family then the state should make that financially possible. The referendum wanted to remove that protection and this was rightly rejected by the population. In the second referendum, the Care referendum, the government wanted to change the constitution to shift the burden of care for the elderly and disabled away from the state to the families. This was also rightly rejected.

the amending of the wording to include the term "durable relationship" was also a very sneaky and underhanded ploy at easing the migration laws as the only place that one finds this term in any law is under Migration Laws in EU. So this would have had massive bearing on the numbers and the latitude that the Government and EU would have had in increasing numbers coming in to Ireland. This was mentioned by Supreme Court Justice Brian Walsh whom also sat on the European Court of Human Rights for close to 20 years so hardly a Right Wing Extremist whom our Government seems to flag anyone as whom disagrees with them on anything.

@@joelyons886 yes that’s right. It’s the playbook of the woke left to brand anyone that disagrees with them a right wing extremist. I agree with you that “durable relationships” would have caused all kinds of problems, including immigration. It was disingenuous and intentional. It is cheese that the government are not representing the people at this point, they showed their cards with these two referendums.

@@tiglishnobody8750Yes you’re correct. The constitution cannot be changed without the will of the people. He’s referring to the post result interview in which Leo Varadkar said that his government didn’t explain themselves very well to the electorate, thereby hinting that we didn’t understand what we were voting for. Prior to the vote, all the opinion polls would have told them that we do not want unlimited immigration, which this wording “durable relationships” would have enabled. Also, by removing the word “Mother”, we would then be opening ourselves to a multitude of definitions of what a women is. They knew all this beforehand and yet wasted €25 million. Great result yesterday.

@@teomac Of course but look welcome to democracy as one human one vote and speaking about "Unlimited immigration" as not big issues yet someone can't tell different between asylum seeker (Like 200k Ukrainian who fled war) and legal immigrant (Who came here for study and/or work and more willing anyway Irish government just show firm stance on illegal immigrant and maybe we should be bit more tough on illegal immigrant while dealing with asylum seeker but anyway result is result and that final point

@@DROGOC0P If they failed, it couldn't have been a part of the evolution to turn Ireland more liberal. It stopped the evolution, or it interfered with the evolution, but it definitely wasn't a part of it. This statement would only have made sense if this referendum was another win for the liberal side. It wasn't though, this was a major win for the conservative side.

Immigration problem?????..... Ireland has had the same about of Non-European immigrants for decades and there was refugees from Ukrainian is 2022 but why after the Winsor Agreement on the Protocol on Ireland/Northern Ireland in 2023, did rhetoric similar to Brexit rhetoric get spread in Ireland, including a lie last week made up by the Loyalist Hermann Kelly's Irish Freedom Party or UKIP Ireland and why does it require a hard border on the Island of Ireland with rhetoric "to close the border"...... In 2018, a british minister threatened Ireland with Food shortages and in 2019 the English Prime Minister said there should be a border between Ireland and the EU, while in May 2021 another british minister met with the UVF to encourage terrorism against Ireland, in 2023/24 there has been several terrorist attacks..... just saying....

The constitution of Ireland does not define a woman’s duties at home, that’s more of the spin that we were subjected to. It says that a mother should not be forced out to work outside the home out of economic necessity (forced, not choose), it also acknowledges all the unpaid work done by women in the home and in society caring for children, elderly, disabled, (98% of carers are women) - “In particular, the State recognises that by her work (life), woman gives to the State a support without which the common good cannot be achieved.” (The wording may be a bit old fashion but is honouring the work women do). The Irish people voted not to delete women and mothers from our constitution, and rejected the woke ideology pushed by the Irish government.

Irish people were too disinformed by misinformation to understand the term 'Durable Relationship' and so panicked and said 'No'. 'Durable Relationship' is of course a very concise term, with a meaning even more concise than the definition, which of course never states that the definition would mitigate against the term in any real and meaningful way unless and until that inference drawn from the interpretation of the parameters of the term might and might not exclude consideration of the term in a concise and meaningful way that could disadvantage the term used and so provoke a breakdown of confidence in the term and constitute a serious breach of comprehension as to the specific meaning of each part of the term thereof. Simple. But of course, the Irish didn't understand. They never understand!

A " durable relationship " which is not a civil contract, is not as durable, as one which is. That's because it has stopped short of accepting mutually binding in law, the obligation to pool resources against risk of sickness, unemployment, loss of housing, need for care of elderly parents, care of children within a common home. There's no judgement being made about people who opt not to mutually bind in law. But they're not equivalent in terms of the State being able to rely on civil marriage, be that hetero- or gay.
