There are many viable reasons for abortions including, but not limited to, rape, incest, fatal deformities, and saving the mothers life. It's not like women just want to be able to kill babies lol The appropriate cut off time for abortion is arbitrary and debatable, but to believe that there is no reason it should ever occur is ignorant, disingenuous, and infringes on women's right to have authority over there own body.
No Name, actually the example of having 2 heads is a good one. When one of conjoined twins is in such poor shape that both are going to die, it's normal medical practice to take steps that will end the life of the poorly twin. The principle is that the healthy child has a right to self defense. The same is true of abortion. A woman should not be compelled to risk her life and health for a foetus that is - like the conjoined twin - essentially parasitic on her body.
It's so sad to read these awfully rude comments from ignorant chauvinists. But I'm so glad about the results. Congratulations Ireland, you've made the right choice! This is a glimpse of hope that the world is moving forward and getting aware of human rights.

I would vote no if they were getting rid of it for no reason because you can just put it up for adoption without killing it and then yes if the baby is sick and is going to die anyway and risks the mother's life

Outstanding argument. Cherry pick the situations and ignore the majority which is abortions on healthy babies( in the uk). Only thing I can think of after this as an Irish person is the thousands of dead babies who had the potential of life which is brutally taken away from them by women.
You people have no argument period, most pro life people would agree with the termination of a pregnancy under strict conditions such as the two you mentioned. The problem lies where the overwhelming majority of abortions worldwide are not the result of such cases, but instead are performed due to the ignorance, stupidity, selfishness and complete blatant irresponsiblity of the masses. While I understand womens' desire to exercise more sovereignty over their physical being, what is unfathomable in all this is the public jubilation over the "right" to snuff out the existence of another. There is something awfully sinister and nihilistic in the public display of joy over this legal "victory". @@User-pz9cc My wife was an internationally certified midwife (since retired) and I actually assisted her in delivering a few newborns at a clinic in Mexico's poorest state where we lived for two years. The "circumstances" were, I am certain, significantly more horrible than anything Ireland could dish up. I just fail to understand how anyone could muster a celebratory mood over such a grim right; without regard to any moral or philosophical objections to abortion. I doubt these young women would publicly celebrate the advent of a legal "right" to kill newborn puppies at will. And rightfully so. I'd expect a more somber reaction to what was granted to them, that's all.
@@User-pz9cc I'm not arguing the choice, I'm simply saddened by the public display of elation over the choice being legalized. Unless, of course, Ireland is bursting at the seams with rapists. I'd be more inclined to agree with you if that were the case, but even without any data, I highly doubt that young women being forced to carry the product of a rape to term is anything but a statistical rounding error in the grand scheme of things. We're simply arguing different things XY. I just hope, sincerely, that the young women celebrating this in the video don't hang their heads in shame 20 years from now when they realize how narcissistic their celebrating looked. If the Irish Parliament tomorrow passed a law legalizing the abortion of pre-birth ponies, no one would hold a public celebration. And rightly so.
Looks like the yes side got a huge win. It was over 60%. I am so happy for those women who really needed the service without having to be subjected to the punishment of the law. However I am a bit worried about the unrestricted part still. I voted no for that. Still happy for the yes side that I agreed with. I was hoping we could get a middle ground.
May those that celebrated in Dublin Castle when the 8th was repealed never have the joy of feeling a baby grow inside of them. They voted to end the life of a baby and even deprive that baby of pain relief when they were being murdered....6600 in the last year alone.....sick.
@@whitiemarsh3671 I've had an embryo removed from my uterus before. Wasn't a big deal. You're aware that 50 to 80 percent of embryos are lost naturally during the process of reproduction, right? And that embryos are routinely destroyed and disposed of at fertility clinics, right? Are you concerned about those "babies" too, or just the ones inside women's uteruses?

The vast majority of abortions take place very early one, so I don't understand what your issue with abortion is exactly. I like to save my concern and energy for actual human beings, not fertilized eggs.

what it sounds like... there is no scientific evidence that suggests that life begins on a specific day on a calendar at the end of the first trimester.., even if this was so abortionists would have to agree that some children develop faster than others and so will be an aborted past this supposed developmental deadline... which sucks for them for them i guess... oh well However, specifically, the only precise moment where the conditions for life are scientifically held to be met is conception... this being so, removing all rights to a host of living humans is egregious and is based on no real evidence other than that "we" want it to be changing human status based on what "we" want has been done before, the confederate south of america for example ... there was no logical , biological or ethical reason to remove rights from black people... but , the south thought the needed slavery so they decided to overlook that what we want does not get to determine objective reality.. that is the route to maddness, we do not get to arbitrarily confer or remove human rights to and from innocent people, that too is a slippery slope there are some medical justifications for abortion, which were already provided for in the constitution, but they are rare. most abortions in the UK an US are carried out for social reasons, NOT AT ABSOLUTE NEED .. which is why , in america, a black child is as likely to be aborted as be born, there are no more downsyndrome people in iceland due to their abortion policy... i would love to know what a downsyndrome person thinks of that... it must be quite terrifying to know that people born like you are being exterminated by state due to a change in the constitution to allow it.

My question for “pro-choicers” is always, what is it inside the womb? The unborn child has separate DNA and separate organs and limbs. Also, if a woman goes to her doctor while pregnant, the doctor has the interests of two patients in mind. But if the woman doesn’t want the child, the child suddenly becomes sub-human? Seeing those rosary beads in this video, I'm reminded of quite a good saying from this Referendum: "take your rosaries off our ovaries!" The only result of sex is pregnancy. The only result of pregnancy from day 1 in the womb is a human being. Abortion is a cover word a word attempting to hide an act of murder. Congratulation Ireland,It's a great tribute to Indian born Savita Halappanavar....India is one the most conservative countries in the world...with undoubtedly the highest birth rate(1.2 billion !!!!) and also with a highest abortion rate.India although is considered as a third world country and Indian society is in no way a milestone for women's right..but even then since our Independence in 1947,Indian women had all the right's given by the constitution itself that a man had.Right to vote,right to property,right to abortion etc...it's pretty draconian in this day and age that a religious institution can actually decide what a women can or cannot do...esp in western society.Nevertheless this is a landmark decision,and hopefully would fuel debate and changes in other latin american countries and hopefully in Catholic churches.
