"He's a legend?" The word legend can't even begin to describe how monumental Jack Charlton was to the Irish people. Jack was so revered in Ireland that when he went into a department store to buy something, he would sometimes write a check. But the store cashiers would pay for the items themselves and keep the check as a souvenir.
Jack was also an expression of how much us ordinary English folk do love the Irish, their culture and their country. Some of us also appreciate enough history to know why why the feeling might not always be mutual. But I for one am glad he brought so much joy to repay some of the hurt. RIP Big Jack.
The greatest English man to ever set foot on Irish soil. He lifted a nation and its people and in my opinion its economy. Done more for this country than any of our politicians ever did. R.I.P Big Jack you gave the Irish nation such happiness. 🇨🇮🇨🇮🇨🇮🇨🇮🇨🇮
I was only 8 during the World Cup ‘94, so, my memories are vague but, I’ll never forget a neighbour bringing her big (fat back) telly out onto the field across from us when played against Italy, had to use about 3 or 4 extension leads just to make it reach, but there was somewhere between 50 to 100 of us, all watching the match on that field on that great sunny day in Ballyfermot! Adults with their beer, kids with their sweets and lemonades, after the win we’re just kept singing ‘Ole Ole Ole’ over and over again! We were all part of Jackies army!! Go fishin Jack! RIP!
I really hope everyone understands how much we loved Big Jack Charlton, World Champion, People's Champion Great man! And yes we do say he is an Irish Legend, Jack and his teams, gave us so much joy whilst we lived in a torrid time,God Bless him ,his brother The great Bobby Charlton, and the entire family! Belfast,Ireland.🙏🇮🇹
You have every right to call him an Irish legend. A working class Geordie lad who fell in love with Ireland and its people and became an honorary Irish citizen. Something he was extremely proud of. His humble background was no different to any other working class lad who followed Irish football and I think they knew that and that’s why they saw him as one of their own. Rest now Jackie boy. God will never make another like you. From a Brit.
Ireland's history stretches back almost 2000 years. No man in the history of the country has been more loved than Jack Charlton has. To the Charlton family - the Irish nation is with you at this difficult time.
@@SccrPlayza Michael Collins, Eamonn De Valera, Roy Keane,. Sean Kelly, Eamonn Coughlan. Add them all together and the lot of them, though all brilliant men, would not hold a candle to the unifying qualities Jack Charlton had for the country. Jack Charlton is the most popular person the country has ever known.
When I was a boy in Dublin I'd watch the World Cups and think how amazing it would be if Ireland could ever play in one. I thought it'd never happen, until big Jack took over. It was a great time to be Irish in early 1990, knowing we were going to finally take part in a World Cup, the whole country was lit up with anticipation. And it was beyond amazing when the competition began, it was complete hysteria, nothing else mattered but Ireland in the World Cup, nobody wanted it to end. RIP Jack, thanks for giving me some of the finest days of my life.
Big Jack is a sad loss to the world. A real down to earth man. How can you not like/love him? had time for everyone but at the same time took no shit from anyone. Sleep well big man, you've had a wonderful life and brought so much joy to others.
Thank you Jackie🇮🇪 You were the most loved English man in Ireland RIP To all of his family sorry for your loss He will be sadly missed but his memories live on "We're all part of Jackies army"
RIP big man. He took no shite but at the same time was loved by all. There is a lesson there methinks. I lived in London during Euro '88 and '90 world cup and the pride he and his team gave me and my friends will stay with me forever. Thank you Jack.
I can honestly say jack Charlton brought Ireland n England that little bit much closer that no politician could ever do! Thanks for the memories big Jack! R.I.P xx
Jack wasn't liked loved or adored in Ireland he was worshipped (naby god is an Englishman after all). May he rest in peace and may his family find comfort from their loss.
@@hughgrection4205 millions more is right but a bit of bollocks unfortunately still needs to dropped in both countries, but thankfully most people all ready have.
I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that the early 90s were a heyday for this country and that Charlton had a lot to do with it. The Celtic Tiger and the peace process all started during the Charlton years.
Grown men crying, children clinging to their mothers, police dancing in the streets. I saw it all during the Charlton era. The country will never ever forget Jack Charlton.
@@brianmckenna1024 Godbless you to Shelly he was a down to earth bloke, not like the footballers of today.I got his autograph many years ago and got it framed with his photo still on my wall.I was just a kid then and couldn't believe how tall he was, I'm 60 now and the memory is still fresh.Takecare and Godbless 🙏
How many players could poke one player in the eye, stand on another's players toes, tug another player away from the ball, by his collar, and then rise on another's shoulders to head a corner home from 3 yards. RIP Jack, old Boro fan.
The Jack Charlton era in Ireland is hard to describe. It felt like everyone stepping out into the sunshine after a long storm. He was one of the catalysts to that golden moment in our history. He gave us hope and pride and joy. Thank you Jack. We'll always be your army! 🇮🇪❤️
When I was a child I dreamed of playing for Ireland because of Jack Charlton I looked at those players as superheroes, thank you Jack for those amazing memories RIP :(
Not Irish but i loved watching that great Irish team because i loved watching MASSIVE nations struggle against them..R.I.P Big Jack..Revered in Ireland as a God..And rightly so..YNWA
Have had a few tears in my eyes over the loss of Jack Charlton as he was just an immense force in Irish football and a truly genuine human being. His kind we will never see again unfortunately but we are truly blessed to have his in the 1st place. Heartbroken from the joyous legacy he left, thank you Big Jack, may you R.I.P. ☘🇮🇪☘
I was talking to my friend yesterday and he was at Sheffield Wednesday when big Jack took over as manager. He said his first meeting with the players left him loving the big man, all the players turned up early for the meeting suited and booted, big Jack turned up late dressed like he just been fishing and said in his warm North East accent "Right lads, I treat men as men and boys as boys" then the meeting was over. Big Jack never complicated matters. R.I.E.P big Jack 💚
RIP big Jack ; huge respect for the lonely Englishman who honestly loved the Irish nation and truly helped her to progress in football, grateful thanks from France !!!
Celtic tiger destroyed Ireland and took its freedom away for eternity. Ireland is ruled by Brussels . When people say it was a colony of England smh 🤦♂️ get real now .
More honest than any politician he done more in ten years than any of them. How dare they talk about him. They got there free tickets when the ordinary man played his way .ten great years thanks for the memories god bless
Sean with all due respect, and I know you mean well, but politicians should never be mentioned in the same breath as Jack Charlton. Jack was as genuine as genuine could be. Politicians are...... well.........
Micheal Martin at 2.11 kinda lowered the tone of the piece but to be fair, Jack Charlton became one of us. At that time and place, that took some doing! He was an amazing man who gave the Irish hope and memories. RIP Jack
I was there today in ashington there was thousands gathering the streets, I was born in his hometown, Jack Charlton has always and always will be remembered in ashington...
Don't forget people, don those jerseys and make sure those flags are out for Tues. Let his family know we're all behind this grief they are going through.
