Just finished this 12" Dobson and flamed maple banjo. It was a really fun build. Jessica wanted a very earthy banjo with natural woods, skin head, and a fossilized ammonite inlay. We decided to put a really fossil in the headstock with some silver leaf behind to catch the light up close. Ammonites lived in the seas in the time of the dinosaurs, between 240 - 65 million years ago. Adding to the theme of this banjo we used wooly mammoth ivory for the nut and fifth string pip. It has a beautiful marbled patina. Taking it for a little test drive on this tune Tim O'Brien recorded with Dirk Powell- Ireland's Green Shore.
