As a Welshman I remember watching this live whilst in work going absolute crazy! Just buzzing! Looking back at this video almost 10 years later I feel sorry for the Irish lol what a heartbreaker, didn't realise it at the time but that was no penalty at the end. But that's sport, swings and roundabouts. They've had their revenge since.
Are you mad?! It was definitely a penalty at the end. Clear dump tackle; feet were lifted above the waist and upper body hit the ground first. Penalty all day long. But it 100% should've been a red card for Bradley Davies doing the same but worse 64 min in.
Jonathan Davies is amazing!! But fair play to the Irish through out the 6 Nations they have scored some amazing tries! Tommy Bowe x2 against the French was amaazing
Brilliant Celtic brothers game, I'm all in support of Ireland beating France now, and then England and then Scotland, and huge respect to the Irish commentators, 100% unbiased, compliments all round, Ireland are now my 2nd favourite team in the world, after Wales ofcause
You know, we've seen the game enough now - it was close, but what happened, happened, and there's no point arguing about it now. What I would say as a Welshman, is what great unbiased commentary by the Irish guys...don't know who they are, but fair play.
But in response to this i disagree, this commentary is one of the least biased i have ever heard, you can always trust the Irish in that, He sounded ecstatic when Wales scored, because it was great Rugby, and accepted the penalty as a penalty, Yellow or not it would have made no difference whatsoever
i think we both agree dan carter is rugby's type of play maker =) I like play makers to be able to do everything (a lot like berrick barnes) barnes can make the cut out passes no look passes and great offloads he makes his tackles infact is really good at tackling can take the ball into contact hard and unlike quade cooper can kick just like dan carter almost the same
I think Bradley's tackle was worse than Warbuton's against France, prob a red, he got lucky. Ferris' tackle was not as bad, but still warranted a yellow. Wales were fortunate that day, but still remember it as a great defensive victory and just the start we needed to get another Grand Slam. PS, i thought the commentary was very good, and not as biased as you say. Can't wait for 6N 2013
Leinster have won the Heineken Cup two years in a row, 3 times in 4 years. 3 Irish teams reached the semis this season, there is obviously something wrong with Kidney as a coach. Some of his selections are questionable eg Murray ahead of Eoin Reddin. Yes you have a fit and absolutely tanked squad, but technically the Irish are superior, and at least 2 of those past victories were very controversial - including 2011 when you won from a quick lineout throw after the ball went out of play.
bloody hell what a pathetic bunch of comments! Speaking as a welshman i personally believe that Wales are better than Ireland, but not a great deal. Gatland has come and given our team a massive lift, but its down to the strength in depth wales now possess which won them this game and ultimately the grand slam. lets not forget Ireland were missing BOD, personally i believe hes one of the greatest centre's to grace the game. Had he been playing maybe it would of made a difference. who knows?
Are you joking, the irish game was won by a tip tackle and 3 outstanding trys, the england game was a fare win, strettle had no downward pressure on the ball = no try, italy were destroyed, scotland were destroyed and france were out classed and out muscled. another Wales Grandslam well deserved. the welsh will be eyeing up a forth next year.
Yeah but wales won a grandslams in 2005, 2008 and 2012 not to mention the championship in 2013. 11 grandslams for wales in the history of the home, 5 and 6 nations to ireland's 2. Wales beat Ireland in the quarter final of the world cup in 2011 and ended up coming 4th. So the statement of "Ireland always loose to wales" may not be true but wales have certainly have been consistently better than Ireland. Not having a go, just facts.
@7dayspking Rugby not about being the biggest on the field.I suppose in the modern era you need to be big enough so you wont be demolished on the field.Being able to run through everybody every time you get the ball isn't skill, its just being a beast. We need players like Quade Cooper to put a bit of skill and fun into the game.Theres too much playing it safe at the moment which can be quite boring.I hope the next generation will be more adventurous and risky in their play.(Irish by the way)
Wales outmuscled us, granted, but they shouldn't have won on the grounds that Ferris never should have conceded a penalty for that tackle - you all complained about the Warburton decision against France so you can't argue in favour of that decision. I don't think Wales have a stronger team though, Kidney isn't a great coach, Wales have plenty of battering rams but lack finesse - what we have in Leinster isn't seen in our international squad as Kidney's tactics undermine our skillful players.
Halfpenny is a fantastic kick make no mistake about that, but as a general fullback Rob Kerney is the best of the two. He is safer under high balls and has better running abillites. Halfpenny is a great player but as a fullback i think Kerney is better. This is from a welsh person :)
Actually Evans Legs were in the air so thanks for commenting and except that Wales didnt Lose 30-9 to england and Walees beat you Have a good day Sir.......... :-)
That 'try' England didn't get wasn't a try according to the proffesionals who had slo mo replay to look at it. Anyways even if that 'try' had been allowed the kick would have been right in the corner, and England didn't have any experienced kickers on the field so almost no chance of getting the 7 points. sour grapes.
Interesting that you bring up Cav, I saw an interview where he was desperately defending cycling when it came to drug abuse. Afterall, the poster boy and most famous person in cycling ever has recently been found guilty of drug enhancing abuse. You watch the rugby training vids and you will see why George North is a big guy. Why put comments on youtube basing them on 'unfounded accusations' as you said?
Oh look Feargface here you are again, you have deffinetly got a grudge against the Welsh! If you don't like the result of the game or the Welsh team don't watch the video mate.
@TehOriginalExceL who gives a shit who won!!! rugby needs more players like george north like stephen ferris like jamie roberts like sean o'brien and tony buckley not like quade cooper not like dani cipriani not like sonny bill williams sadly these players our taking over our game ireland and wales fans can agree on this (i'm Australian by the way)
Two yeas in a row wales beat us because of a dodgy peice of play. In 2011 that quick lineout which won them it should not have been allowed, and 2012, was stephen ferris tackle really worth a yellow card?
In the crowds defence, there is no way it was a penalty let alone a yellow card! Bradley Davies' tackle was 10 times worse and Ryan didn't even have the f*****g ball!
Wales have been shite the past decade. This is supposedly one of the great Wales teams now packed full of stars and they are ranked tenth in the world with Tonga threatening them. Ireland have been fairly consistent finishing up in top 2/3 in the 6 nations for over a decade now.
quade cooper lost the world cup for Australia (aussie by the way) so we need more fairy players who can't tackle and are scared of up front contact i agree with play makers but leaguies just don't cut it they have the flashy flick passes and side steps but thats not enough you need to be able to take on the bigger guys and have a bit of that up front style rugby has and league is lacking a bit in without it the game will be a bunch of people who never get past the 50 cuz there scared of pain.
So sad, im really upset i think that Ireland deserved this win... Im not just saying this because im Irish. And i admit that Wales dominated first half but second half was the opposite... I dont think that the last tackle deserved a penalty.... :( - :'(
hmmmm not really though all teams have got decent play makers except for some of the european ones but theres not a lot of wingers willing to get in there and put a shoulder on which i just found disapointing
In look back at this game in March 2024 hard to believe some players on the field then played in Ireland vs Wales recently, second the Ferris penalty would never ever happen today, tip tackle is virtually gone many referees will give a penalty now for lifting a leg, both tip tackles would be red in 2024... the critics of Jack Crowley saw Johnny Sexton miss that conversion Sexton went on from there .Finally Gatland is still Welsh coach and Wales ended up with the wooden spoon 🥄 too ,each team has its time it can change quickly the success Ireland have now was built on those defeats
cont. - There's no way of testing for AAS cycled off season, the halflife of testosterone is WAY too short for any kind of reasonable testing, i'd know i've done Test and Dbol myself, the moment you're in PCT it's practically untraceable, i stand by my assumption that EVERY sportsperson, especially women, have at least dabbled in Steroids, in Rugby i imagine almost everyone is cycling, hell half the people at my local club cycle, and they aren't even semi professional
There are some very sore losers commenting on this video. At the end of the day the ref's decision is final end of story. If we argue about whether a referees decision was bad or not just about every game of rugby would would end up being called into question. P.S Ireland got over hyped and ended up loosing to England when near enough everyone thought they were going to win a grand slam, Ireland are not as good a team as you think get over it.
I dont like this commentator. He says that Bradley Davies' tackle was a straight red, even saying 'by the letter of the law', but when Ireland pull off a tackle which is 'by the letter of the law' a straight yellow he just downright denies it! I always like to credit the Irish with open minds and evenness but on this occasion hes just being one eyed!
I'd put my money on you being English. Bet you've never said anything about any of the young players coming through in that squad have you. George North has got a lot of hype and talent, I think you've just got sour grapes he's Welsh.
Jesus be a long time b4 we see Wales DESERVEDLY beat Ireland ..long time b4 we give em a game if WRU have anything to do with it killing off atmosphere of stadium with pathetic ban on delilah etc . Just woke gone mad
Just watched the full game, didn't realise how much Barnes gave the home side over the 80 minutes, makes the win even more impressive. Can only assume Barnes thought he needed a big decision to even it out hence the no red for Davies
But saying "fuck wales" is alright? It cuts both ways, so I do honestly think that if one person needs to learn your 'respect' then the other person should as well. Just saying, perhaps you should mention the other comment :)
judging by our defence, particularly the display against england and france we are by far the fittest team, nothing wrong with kidney he's is a great coach and we have beaten ireland in our past three games we are a much stronger and fitter team. you talk a load of shit, lol.
Maybe you're not aware Wales' bad run last summer and autumn was without key players, and with a caretaker coach. Fortunately it was turned round. Both Wales and Ireland could have done with greater strength in depth.
Sorry, last I checked Ireland were fighting it out for the wooden spoon and Wales are in contention for the title. AGAIN Kearney has been fucking dogshit this season, as have the rest of the Irish backline. No strength in depth, no world class talent, no hope. I will enjoy seeing Ireland presented with the spoon in a weeks time
@TehOriginalExceL take off the goggles mate. 60% poession and 60% territory tells it's own story. It was a penalty live with it. Best team won despite having 4 from the pack out.
Wales deserved to win but Bradley Davis should have been sent off. His tackle was much worse than Ferris. With that and the wrong ball incident from the previous year we didn't have a whole pile of luck around that time v Wales.
@mizofan well ireland is getting a new coach in three weeks and hopefully that will turn thing around for us. To be fair mate the injuries you had in the summer and autumn was nothing compared to the ones ireland had in the six nations :)
It's crazy to see this comment and realise the difference between the Kidney and Schmidt eras. We could barely win a 6N under kidney and with Schmidt, 3 6N wins, Australia Tour win, 2 All Black wins and managed to reach rank no. 1 in the world for the first time. Incredible the progress in 6 years. Let's hope Andy Farrell continues the progress
