Yes watch the original movie, it's great. Yes, they had a TV series based on the movie. I want to say that about 4 actors from the movie appeared in the TV version as well. The TV show was on for like 6 seasons with the cast always changing throughout the series.
Rip To Actress & Singer Irene Cara Escabera aka Coco from the original Fame Movie!!! My Condolences & Sympathies Go To The Escabera Fam. A New Yorker that made her Cuban/Puerto Rico Pride to the top. Thank U Irene!!! U Will Be Missed But, Ur Music Will Continue To Move On For A Long Time. God Bless The Escabera Fam!!!
This song won the Academy Award for Best Original Song. The other well-known song from this movie is "Out Here On My Own" which was also nominated in the same category as the song Fame. You should check it out too when you get a chance.
I had to come out of my hiatus, if only for this one time for Irene Cara! She is a multi talented performer from New York and is of Puerto Rican and Cuban heritage! She won Academy Awards and Grammys for her song writing, but was given the short end of the stick by the music industry, but I hear she's doing ok now! She's one of my favorite performers of all time! Until whenever, have a great one!
Personal note, I used to sing this song when I was in the school choir at my middle school. We would sing it as the finale of every concert we were in.
Hey there! Thank you so much for all the great reaction videos that you create, and share! I really look forward to them! You may have already heard this particular song, but if you haven't, you may want to include it with your movie theme music videos: TO SIR WITH LOVE by the artist Lulu.... Sidney Poitier had the lead role in the movie of the same name! I hope that you enjoy it!
The movie Fame (1980) is essential for anyone interested in 80s popular culture. It permeated everything for a few years. But it's also a great movie, for real.
A childhood chum's two kids went to that school of performing arts in Manhattan, and now they can do everything extremely well. I should watch it again, being more familiar with that world. It was a response to "All That Jazz" as I recall. Total masterpiece. Bob Fosse. I think George Benson's classic "On Broadway" was a featured song. "Flashdance" was next. Pretty sure that was the order. Another song that will get you off yer ass. :)
I never saw the movie, but I watched the tv show when I was a kid in the early- mid 80s. Some of the actors from the movie (including Debbie Allen) were also in the tv show.
The "Fame" TV series was really, really good. Can't imagine it's streaming anywhere nowadays, but if you can find it, you should definitely watch it. Also, knowing your fondness for solid guitar and '80s hair bands, you should add...Giant - I'm a Believer...to your list. They've got more excellent songs from their Last Of The Runaways album, like 'Innocent Days,' 'Can't Get Close Enough,' and 'I'll See You In My Dreams,' but 'I'm A Believer' should be first. The guitar solo at the beginning is just so tasty!!
Irene Cara also played in the movie "Sparkles" in the 70's which put her on the map. She played a singer and the girlfriend of Phillip Micheal Thomas from "Miami Vice"
Irene Cara was in the movie theme. Which is a great movie one of my favorites. She sings on the movie soundtrack. Also Fame became a television series. And Janet Jackson started it. ♥️♥️♥️♥️
'Out Here On My Own' is another track she sings on this. Beautiful ballad, beautifully done. Don't miss it. I auditioned for that school. Never heard from them again 😂. (I was NOT ready)
The TV show came out after the movie with some of the same cast. Man I LOVED it!!! I was obsessed. They made two albums from the songs from the series too. It was SO good. I think some of those tunes were Starmaker, I can do anything better than you can, It’s gonna be a long night maybe …. It’s been a looooong time :D
Most of the people in the TV show was actually in the movie except they switched Irene Cara with A girl who looked a whole lot like he. her her character was named Coco
Hey there, Angela, _Fame (1980)_ is a good movie, IMO. Some comedy, some pathos, an interesting look into a high school focusing on the performing arts in NYC, with great character development. The TV series _Fame (1982-1987)_ is also worthwhile. Captures a lot of the movie's endearing qualities, but with the pacing and more-tame 'made for broadcast TV' scripts, given that's what it in fact is. The later TV series _Fame LA (1992)_ wasn't really my cup of tea. I found it derivative of the original formula, without really adding much except for more up to date costumes and plots, and it was canceled after only one season. But it's rated not far below the others (5.5/10 on IMDB), so it's even-money that you may find it to your liking.
Yay! Thanks for reacting to my song suggestion! 😀 I remember this from the TV series back in the early 80s. They made an album and this was the first cassette tape I bought - showing my age. lol. Another great song was 'High Fidelity'. The TV series might be a bit corny nowadays but it was exciting to watch as a young pup when you dreamt of being famous.
This song won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1981. Also, another song from the film "Out Here on my Own" was nominated in the same category. It was the first time in Oscar history that two songs from the same film were nominated.
The TV show started in the early 80s not long after the film came out. I remember we watched it as kids. A few of the actors from the movie were in the TV show but Irene Cara was only in the film. Another actress played her character "Coco" in the TV show.
Great song, great movie. Directed by the great Alan Parker who later went on to make The Commitments as well as many others ( Angel Heart, Mississippi Burning, Midnight Express, Evita, Pink Floyd's The Wall )
Irene Cara became a bit of a move soundtrack queen in the 80's. Lots of people have mentioned 'What a Feeling' from Flashdance and that is well worth a listen.
Irene Cara sings. She is also 1 of the actresses. 1 of the great dance 💃 movies 🎥 in the 1980s. 😃 Strongly 💪 suggested video 📹: Flashdance (What a Feeling).
I don’t know if this is true but I believe the school in the movie, the show was Juliane where I think many famous arts students actors singers I think robin williams and George Michael went to. The professors were famous too.
There is a fairly recent movie out called "The Hating Game". Its opening song is "Mercy" sung by 16yo Angelina Jordan (WARNING: This girl is addictive, and you will get HOOKED!) I think you will really like this artist and song.
just watched your stayin alive video. if you want another one to trip you out try, buck cherry - "play that funky music white boy". also from the 70's.
Irene Cara was also in the movie and sang several songs in it. You actually have a bit of a resemblance to her. She ultimately became known more for her singing than her acting. She was a good actress and a terrific singer.
The original FAME movie is amazing. A must watch! It’s a very substantive movie with both lighthearted and gritty moments. My family watched the TV series when I was a kid. It was good, though IDK how it stands up 4 decades later. The FAME “remake” is unwatchable. It was made during the High School Musical craze and the movie studios needed a vehicle to make another HSM wannabe.
The movie was very dramatic coming of age.. All the teens have issues.. but are also very talented.. love, heartbreak, failure, success.. it's all in there. Several of the actors in the movie went onto the TV show.. the TV show was less dramatic, less pain.. but was very musical. Tv show Glee reminded me a bit of fame TV show.
It's too bad you didn't watch the Fame Promotional Video that featured much more of Irene Cara's performance. I believe you would have enjoyed it much more, Angela.
