Irina Slutskaya - triple-triple combinations

This is the new version of my video with collection of Irina Slutskaya's triple-triple combinations. I added a few new ones I've recently found.They are from her whole career. If you know more of her triple-triples please let me know so that I can put in my video and re-upload it.
Irina executed three kind of triple-triples: 3T+3T, 3S+3L and highly difficult 3Lz+3L. She had only three succesful attempts at that combo and became the first woman ever to land it at 2000 Grand Prix Final. Sometimes Irina added a double toeloop to her 3S+3L combo and she became the first woman ever to land such a combination at 2001 Worlds. Her achievments in figure skating are really admirable.

I love the reaction of the commentator at 6:18, when she expects a double loop and Irina does a triple loop in her combination!

The 3lutz/3loop at 2005 worlds was spectacular. She did not cheat there.

What makes the loop so difficult is you have to land with the free foot in front, so if the first jump is even a little bit off the loop can't happen. There's no reaching back like the toe. IRina was definitely at her best after her comeback when she rediscovered her joy. Her jumps were huge so she had time to complete the rotation.

+ChristineTheHippie I think the 3 loop as the second jump should be rewarded more because its very difficult if done properly.

I found it ironic that the clean ones are the ones after her comeback from serious health issues. I guess what doesn’t kill you really does make you stronger!

I agree! Many of these jumps were very underrotated (I so didn't realize that when she competed, I kinda idealized her :P), but the ones she attempted in 2005 were perfect! And oh, those double biellmans. Some of the girls today are so flexible, I wonder why none of them tries those.

Because it's not just about flexibility,...Irina could spin in both directions which is unique

Doing a toe off of another jump is SO much easier that a loop. Trust me, I have done these combos, just as doubles, not triples though. Here's why: I can do a double toe off literally anything. Double loop, not so much. Common problems are off axis air position and simply not getting enough height. Irina was a WONDERFUL skater because of all her gutsy attempts at triple loop combos.

That loop is actually hard to connect if you don't get enough height and speed on the rotation ! :O WOW !! She's amazing for pulling it off that many times :) She's still one of my favorites

@tinymavy She would surely be known for her ability to pull off a clean programs many times, for double biellmans, big exuberance and speed across the ice, amazing height on lutzes and flips (a bit higher than Yu-Na) and notice that all her three attempts on triple-triples under IJS were actually given a credit. I think she was just overall better skater in her late career after comback in 2004-2005 season and she got even 3Lz-3L combo ratified then.

My personal fav was Maria, but I also loved Irina’s personality and power.

@saveangel That is certainly not true. She did mistakes on them because they are damn difficult! Her solo jumps were usually spot on with height, distance, speed, difficult entries etc. It is because of the high difficulty of those combinations that she stepped out, fell etc. She put a triple loop in her triple-triples which is much more difficult than the toeloop. And there are just few girls in the world who has attempted 3Lz+3Lo since Irina did it, let alone succeeded with it.

She's always cheated them and never had any run through on the last part of the triple. She always landed it at a stand still.

ManuelPabloArnao A couple of them are clean, ironically the ones after her comeback from her serious health issues. The 3S+3L’s from the Grand Prix events in 2004 and 2005 look clean, the one in the 2006 Olympics practice looks clean, and the 3L+3L from her 2005 Worlds win looks clean, although it was landed at a standstill like you pointed out. The rest of them look underrotated, but at least she landed some clean ones unlike Sarah Hughes, who cheated most of her jumps and even the first jumps in her combos!

@@evanperilstein5308Her second triples in the combination, the first half of the rotation was always done while she was still on the ice (pre-rotation) and she always completed the last half of her triple on the ice at a complete stand still. Props for trying but they always looked messy.

I don't understand why she often added a 3loop instead of 3toe to her combos bc her 3loop look underrotated every time and her 3toe seems stronger

Billy Ng Also, notice the ones after her comeback from serious health issues when she was under the new system are the ones that are fully rotated. And yes, Sarah Hughes won Olympic gold with many cheated jumps, including the first jump in some of her combos. What a fluke win

The ones from 2004 on are much cleaner, probably because IJS is much stricter on underrotations.

i never understood why she got rid of the 3t-3t, or do 2a-3t and 3s-3t. Kwan wasnt attempting anything more difficult. imo irina couldve been even more successful with a mindful approach to her jumps layout. she was trying to go with that "oh im incredibly athletic" vibe and it never fully paid off. i would even understand if she would have had a short career, but with her longevity it always annoyed me how she and her coaches never trained with any sense and logic. you would think that after her 2002 olympic loss, introducing a new scoring code she would do everything to maximize her chances at winning, but no lmao. im sad for her silver in salt lake city, but in turin she was the only one who robbed herself of the gold. and im not even talking about the fall on 3lo, just in general, her jumps layout was as dumb as alway.

Irina had speed and attack in 98 with her 3 toe/3toe and then in 2000 she slowed down and the 2nd toe suffered.

The only time she ever did a good 3lutz/3loop was also the last time, at 2005 Worlds. That looked clean to my eyes but these strict callers would probably find a way to downgrade it today.

@sanfransisca19 Miło zobaczyć komentarz w języku polskim pod filmem z łyżwiarstwem figurowym ;). Na szczęście w tym sezonie obowiązują nowe zasady dotyczące niedokręcenia skoków i dzięki temu widzimy więcej poczwórnych skoków, bo teraz po prostu warto je ryzykować, kara za niepowodzenie nie jest tak duża jak jeszcze w zeszłym sezonie. Może nawet Miki Ando spróbuje jeszcze poczwórnego salchowa. Btw, dzisiaj wrzucę video z quadami Miki i drugie z jej kombinacjami 3-3 ;).

Сейчас с такими 3-3 даже в десятку бы не попала :-). Хотя каскад 3S-3Lo мне понравился, жаль его наши фигуристки не делают.

She cheated so many of those 2nd triples. She is lucky she competed in the era before the judges verified the completion of jumps.

Almost all of these would have been underrotated. They're not done well. Her skating has not aged well.

Her left foot at the end of the combos is always too high and wild. In addition, you could see she has a Flutz as almost all skaters from Russia.
