I first heard Country music as a boy in the 1950s...Iris Dement is how it should be. The emotion, the story telling the musicality...it's all there. And of course she is one gorgeous woman. Wow there is a God after all
" When the train.... pulls... in the station..." makes you sit up and pay attention...her voice is angry,, seductive , innocent, yet vulnerable ... That leaves me with a heartfelt experience of just what it means to face your own truth. Find out who you really are...
Anyone notice the great Duane Eddy Fender bass style riff at the end of Iris’s version ? My maternal Grandfather, whom I never knew, was a station agent on the old B&O Railroad in West Virginia. We have old friends from our time in Bakersfield in the early 70s. Recontacted them quite recently. She came from Arkansas and when I first heard Iris Dement’s voice it was as if I was listening to the same voice. John Prine likes Iris’s music a lot. Ain’t it great how music ties so many threads together in life?
When the train pulls in the station you'll be waiting by the track You're havin' trouble sleepin' nights you want me to come back But that old train will roll on by, you'll know I never came While I sleep good and miss a lot of trains I sleep good and I miss a lot of trains That one way track to no man's love I'll never ride again I used to lie awake at night callin' out your name Now I sleep good and miss a lot of trains Your standin' in the station I can see you in my mind You think that I'll forgive again, but you're so wrong this time Your sleepless eyes and selfish heart are waiting there in vain While I sleep good and miss a lot of trains I sleep good and I miss a lot of trains That one way track to no man's love I'll never ride again I used to lie awake at night callin' out your name Now I sleep good and miss a lot of trains
I don’t think I have ever heard of her before…I have really enjoyed listening to her tonight and I would appreciate it if you could play her music often
Well right you are! I'm not surprised, really. She did strike me as genuine, but then so did some of the others whose singing voice differs from their everyday speech. I'm also new to Emmy Lou, so I'll look out for her. Tho I cant imagine anyone of this class to be as preferable to my taste as Iris. & i'm from the coast, unaccustomed to country music & western twang
You'd wonder if she puts it on, or if she actually talks like that. At least that's what I'm wondering, cuz I know singers whose singing voice is quite different from their personal talking voice. Hmmm, should we trust her in professional interview. I've faved a # of her songs. Been listening to her for a few weeks & only now am considering this
