No wonder Phoenix was so convinced that the Dahlia he knew would never be capable of evil. I did not expect that confession in the game, and it was phenomenal to hear she was the one who loved Phoenix for those 8 months
It's one of my favorite little touches in the story of AA3. It's by no means difficult to believe that Phoenix was just a naive kid confusing infatuation with love in the first flashback case, and it's actually pretty funny since it's treated with humor and played for laughs. But then they hit you with this reveal right at the very end and it totally re-contextualizes that whole case: Phoenix was never an idiot, and he wasn't even completely blinded by puppy love. The person he thought Dahlia was really did exist all along. Such a cool bit of writing.
@@ThrillingDuck I legit apologized to Iris so much after being finally convinced she is indeed the angel Phoenix knew her for,who would knew Phoenix's gut was right,I was so wrong
What would have been even more heart wrenching is if Phoenix showed her the sweater. It had been years since the incident but Phoenix still cherishes it.
I mean....kind of, I remember that in the game she said that if she knew that her sister was planning to murder Phoenix that day, she would have had to choose between "her life or mine". My suspicion is that Iris might not have any intention to kill but she will kill if she gets forced to.
Really makes you wonder, if 2 people were placed in the same terrible situation, would they both deal with it in the same way? Or are personalities there even before a person goes thru life experiences?
The kindest thing Dahlia ever did for her was leave her at Hazakura. And even then, it wasn't her intention to be kind. But it's nice it worked out that way. She spared her twin from a life a misery she was already coming to know.
That moment when you realize the sweet, kind Dahlia that Phoenix fell in love with and believed in until the end actually was Iris. I like how the anime added the touch of her knitting the sweater, even in the cold. She didn't have to do that. She really was falling in love with him. That's why in the game she mentioned that Dahlia must have "noticed her feelings for him."
@@PajamaPantsStudios yeah. The game doesn't say anything so you believe she had it custom made at a store. I didn't watch the anime (I just finished the game) but wanted to see how nice Iris is in anime with VA so I came here and honestly I couldn't hold back my tears at watching her confession with her knitting the sweater.
She had such an awful life, terrible mother, terrible twin sister, spend six years feeling guilty, then another murder happens because of her terrible twin sister, and then when she finally confesses to the guy she likes, she ends in in jail... and all of this to such a sweet innocent girl, give her a break and let her be with Phoenix in the next game, please.
b u t . . . M a y a i s l i k e 19 yrs old in PW:T&T (Season 2) and Phoenix is like 24. Plus the fact that Phoenix and Maya don’t really like how Pearls ships them together. Iris and Phoenix should probably be the same age.
@@invokemtf2 well, since Dahlia was Pheonix's underclassman in university and she was Iris's twin sister so that's correct. Around the time of this trial, Pheonix is around 25-26 so it made Iris 24-25
@@mr.thomaswaffles6700 yah, for being a co-conspirator of the murder, she helped move the body after all. It is not as serious as actual murder itself and depend if Godot himself got justified self-defense for his trial, her prison sentence would probably be for a while
This was devastating - Iris really loved him and was willing to try and talk Dahlia out of this. What Iris went through was beyond cruel, even if the legal system saw her as an accomplice to what Dahlia did.
Actually, she wasn't going to prison for being an accomplice to Dhalia but to Diego. She said herself that she understood the risk when she agreed to participate in the plan to avoid her sister of killing Maya.
It might interest people to learn that Iris was in no way unpopular as a character in Japan during the Trilogy's run. She actually got 5th place in the official 2005 popularity poll, losing only to Edgeworth, Phoenix, Godot and Maya (in that order), which is crazy impressive for a character with not even a full cases worth of screentime.
@@adamryamizard5560 People just...connected, I guess, to the reveal of her true relationship with Phoenix. That's something in that reveal that makes it feel in a really...real kind of way how much she loved him.
My only fan fic scenario is when Iris finally got released from detention. She and Phoenix continued there relationship, somehow from that moment she concieve his child. But when "Feenie" lost his badge and adopted Trucy, she told him she needed to leave to go back to Sister Biniki to help her in the mountains once again. In truth, Iris decided it's best that Phoenix needs to focus on Trucy, to help her be at ease after her (Trucy's) father was forced to runaway from the law. Iris hid there child (most likely a son) from Phoenix and was taken care off together with Bikini. I still can't think of where to go from here. Other than her reappearing in that story together with there son.
@@sainttan I still don't get why they weren't married after phoenix lost his badge. I mean he clearly needed some emotional support and Edgeworth isn't capable of that job and Trucy needed a mom.
While it's missing a few aspects of the original scene (notably the part where Iris said she would have done anything to stop Dahlia from attempting to kill Phoenix), this came together pretty well. Here's hoping Iris shows up at least one more time...
I don't really see the Phoenix and Maya ship holding water after this case. To be fair, Iris was his first love and he was hers, even if Phoenix thought her name was Dahlia. The person that he actually cared for was Iris, after all, she was everything Dahlia was pretending to be.
in the game, iris asks "shes your girlfriend, right?" (she as in maya). phoenix doesnt deny this (not hating feenris, i think that nick & iris would be a very cute couple)
@@FLUFFCHIRP correct me if I'm wrong but I remember that line was delivered by Dahlia (in Maya's body) when she was testifying about the murder. And honestly, I think that's more like Pheonix being surprised by her change of attitude (the Iris he met up until then was too polite to make such a remark) and he was probably deep in thought of the possibility that it was Dahlia who is standing in the witness stand
@@FLUFFCHIRP that doesn't mean anything, Maya was also talking to Phoenix about how he acted in front of Iris as if he felt in love with her, then starts singing something about Phoenix and Iris being lovers or something, and Phoenix also didn't deny anything of that.

Sad what happened to her, but at least Phoenix visited her afterwards. I just wonder if he still did during Apollo Justice and all his shenanigan years. If anyone is wondering, it was at the credit scene that showed him visiting her.
Ummm can you send/tell a link where you watched that last scene? It was written on the wiki but for the life of me I cannot find the visiting scene in the face of the internet, only mentions. I'm a huge Iris stan and I *need* to watch that scene.
@@timothygrayson5065 Don't have the link rn, but if you search Trials and Tribulation chapter 5 Bridge to the turnabout Ending, that part should be in the credit scene.
@@GouAndSotsuWereMistakes ohhhhh you meant in the game. I was really looking forward to the anime version seeing as how good the anime portrayed those type of scenes. But fr this was the first time i saw of that scene in game lol i just skip through all of it.
Even though Iris said "all I ever did was deceive and hurt you", I feel like only half of that was true. She did deceive him, but she never had any intentions of hurting him. Dahlia did, and at first, I was confused why he would want to see her again. Then, when Iris confessed, everything became clear and I actually felt genuinely sorry for her. Because when she confessed all of this to Phoenix, he wasn't hurt. He did what he always set out to do: find the truth.
Well then I can assure you that what she said originally actually is "ただ、あなたを欺いてしまったのです", which means "all I did was deceive you badly", no "hurt" part at all. Didn't know why they subbed like this though. BTW I've been living in Japan for more than 5 years so you can trust me ;-P Also I completely agree with your opinion. Phoenix was severely hurt in the incident 6 years ago, but that all came from Dahlia's evil conspiracy, and Iris just tried to save both her sister and Phoenix, then ended up falling in love with him. Maybe their relationship itself is filled with lies, but Phoenix and Iris's feeling towards each other is real. I still hope we can see her in future AA games.
After learning what a sweet girl iris is, and seeing genuine tears fall from her face after seeing dalia's false ones (considering they have the same face), my eyes just started watering just because of how much this girl suffered through and yet still held herself together. I just felt really bad for her. her undying loyalty and willing to repent for anything is just beautiful. That girl deservers better. and her husbando (don't kill me for shipping phoenix with iris).
iris is really matched with Phoenix... she even willing to pose herself as dahlia so, she could stop another damage from her sister... that's take bravery and competent...
@@acedemomuse7685 one of the reasons according to them is that she's lying to feenie and make a fool of him. i'm not one of those people though since i shipped feenie x iris
As much as people say that Iris needs to return in future games and be with Phoenix, that it wouldn't work because everything would leave Phoenix traumatized, or that Edgeworth is the only possible choice for whatever reason, I think Iris would still work to some degree. People who say it wouldn't work most likely see it as "any normal person wouldn't want to be with someone who lied to them and took part in these awful events." But Phoenix still trusted her up until the last case of the trilogy, when she confessed and Phoenix said "You really are the person i always thought you were. Even after Dahlia was found guilty, I still believed in you.", which means that he still sees her as a good person, not just some liar. And in the credits of T&T, Iris says she's happy that Phoenix would visit her and that he would only look at her (until Pearl smacked him and gave him a nosebleed), which means that even tho everything might have left Phoenix traumatized, he still had at least a shred of his feelings for her and he most likely visited her often off-screen, maybe even when he got disbarred. But if she makes a return, I want to see some character development, not just "oh, I want her to return and be with Phoenix!". Like how Phoenix would react after she gets released, how she would assist in the cases or whether she would treat Pearl and Maya as family and vice versa. Hell, even whether Trucy would see her as a mother, if you go by them managing to still have feelings for each other.
I think its way too late for seeing Iris's release. There is no way she would still be in prison by Apollo Justice, let alone by Spirit of Justice. She's likely been out for years. Salmonella and Adrian Andrews got out of prison before the Phoenix got disbarred. I'd love to see Iris again and also not have her just be there to pair up with Phoenix (not that we'll ever get that since I feel like Phoenix is forever doomed to be single to prevent upseting the shippers on the dicks that would fail should a ship get confirmed.
The frustrating part about the series as a whole is that it truly has a colorful cast of characters but once a case is done very few ever return. It truly is difficult to imagine the likes of Gumshoe, Iris (even if she is in prison) Franchezka, not reacting to the events that set the stage for Phoenix in Apollo Justice. Yet you don't see or hear a blip of them. Heck Maya only just returned.
What can be said? Dahlia was just concerned with covering up her crime, and treated Nick as a pawn intending to poison him and take the pendant back. On the other hand, Iris had genuine feelings for Nick despite initially trying to get the pendant back
@@nisdebeste I found Phoenix x Maya kinda weird too :// and I personally ship WrightWorth more, but Iris and Phoenix are cute too :]] Though, as cute as their relationship would seem to be, I worry about the fact that back then, in college, Phoenix seemed to worship Iris (disguised as Dahlia). They were happy, but their relationship didn't seem too healthy. It's the reason why I ship WrightWorth a lot more.
Wait, why do people ship Miles and Phoenix in the first place? They're literally rivals like Naruto and Sasuke or Goku and Vegeta. Jesus Christ, can a main protagonist have a rival without the fandom shipping on it cause it's really just getting annoying now?
@@fred9515 have you played the games at all? There's a lot of tension between the two that can't just be explained by being rivals or even friends. Also, you don't just completely base your career choice to meet a friend you haven't seen in years. Phoenix literally became a lawyer just so he can meet Edgeworth again. That's not something you do for just a rival or even a close friend. There's also that "Thanks to you, I am saddled with unnecessary... feelings." comment from Edgeworth. And a lot more moments between the two of them in later games. If I decided to list all of them this comment would become an entire essay. Honestly all it takes is to play the games or at least watch playthroughs of it to see why people ship these two so much. Also, why is it your business which characters people ship? Do you really care so much that you get angry over it? Literally who cares if people like to ship rival characters? Let them do what they want, it's not like they're harming anyone.
poor iris, she's such a sweet girl and an amazing character. i remember finding out that she was the one who actually dated phoenix and could not believe it. those two were adorable. even if iris doesnt end up with phoenix, i want her to have a happy ending
I finished this case in the game, and as someone who doesn't like shipping characters in videogames, I can honestly say that these two are sweet together. Iris is a genuinely great character.
This game... I mean trials and tribulation is without a doubt the most amazing of the whole serie. I will never forget it. The final trial was far beyond what I could ever expect. It has been now 7 years ago I finished that game but I remember it just like it was yesterday.
Iris Hawthorne. The embodiment of goodness. She knew how much of a psycho her sister was but still tried to help get the necklace back. She even fell in love with Phoenix and couldn’t bring herself to break his heart. Deep down for the next five years she was probably suffering on the inside as she believed she could never face him ever again after that fateful murder trial
I feel so scared to say that this is my OTP from Pheonix Wright because of the fandom shipping Edgeworth and Pheonix so strongly. I've heard many people call Iris and Pheonix Toxic and I'm just over here liking it because their love story was actually really sweet and they truly, truly loved each other. Phoenix ended up not falling for a devil like Dahlia and instead fell in love with Iris the whole time.

"You know how characters voiced by Yuki Kaji tend to have love interests with miserable luck?" "Yeah?" "Let's have him voice Phoenix Wright in the Anime Adaptation."
My headcanon - since the game ended with that trial - is that after the trial, Phoenix visited Iris frequently until she was released and the two of them tried to restart their relationship. Only being barred by Pearl insisting that Phoenix solely belonged to Mystic Maya
Same. Even if they don't have feelings for each other....I wanna see Iris still in the temple, free of all those incidents caused by her sister and mother; or out of the temple having a different life like a writer or a teacher.
Agreed. Phoenix+Iris doesn’t get nearly as much credit as it deserves, despite being one of the most well-developed romantic relationships in the series and one of only a handful to date to be definitively confirmed in the canon storyline itself.
It really baffles me that Phoenix never brings her up again after this. These two really should have gotten together, assuming Iris wasn't given a long prison sentence.
I just finished rewatching both seasons of Ace Attorney right now in like less than a week just because of this scene. Words cannot express how amazing and wholesome this anime is. First of all, I believe before watching the anime, play the game first. The anime is obviously rushed because it is an anime and a lot of the small details were skipped out on. The anime was based off the game after all. The ending of the anime though was amazing. Everything just came around in a full loop and no confusions or questions were left behind. Dahlia got what she deserved. Godot’s legacy is gone, but never forgotten. Most importantly though, Iris is waifu material 😂
At first, I was like "aww cmon phoenix, she literally tried to kill you and you still won't accept the fact that she's a demon" but now I understand how attached young Phoenix must be with Dahlia (iris).
I agree but I kinda hate the fact that they didn't include the moment when Iris says that she would have done anything to protect Phoenix from Dahlia, even if it meant Dahlia's life or her own. It showcased the fact that Iris was willing to do ANYTHING, even kill her beloved sister for Phoenix, and also, more importantly, that she has a dark side. She's not perfect, she's just human, who could have resorted to murder to protect the man she loved: murder to protect someone else, and not herself like Dahlia did. And I thought that was both brilliant and awesome.
Nah, I could definitely see Maya shipping Iris and Phoenix after hearing the full story (and creating various diversions for Pearl so she doesn’t ruin it for them). 😉
@@kandiiyuutaamu It’s hard to say. I don’t recall if Pearl is still as much of a Phaya shipper now as she was before, Older Maya only appears in SoJ (in which Pearl does not make an appearance) as far as I know, and Iris is never mentioned in the post-Apollo era as far as I can remember. Maybe if Maya makes an appearance in AA7, we might get more of a glimpse into her current thoughts on Wright’s love life.
I appreciate that she's a sweet girl who cared for Phoenix and her ill twin. She never meant any harm and would've been seen with him catching up. I can see the point of miles and Feeney but he wanted to help his friend to not be sad. Where it get messy it's people pulling things running with it in different directions and fighting instead of enjoying the bond and story
@L Z yes. She was forced by her trash sister, but she's so sweet she accepted her fate. I would really like to see her making a cameo in a future AA game.
Literally JUST finished the game maybe an hour or less ago. Love these two. Searched up their ship stuff and it's so wholesome! Ahhhh! They're so amazing together! And then I was immediately shot down when I read she doesn't appear ever again. God. Damn. It.
An idea of mine: Shortly after the events of ‘Spirit Of Justice’ (including Turnabout Time Traveler), Iris was finally released from prison and she reunited with Phoenix. The two later got married (all their families, relatives, friends and allies were invited to their wedding), and Iris becomes Trucy’s mother.
Honestly if Iris were to come back it might offer a killer angle about other ways the law offices could be expanded. Hell maybe she could become a defense attorney to or at least manage an office in a separate part of the country
What I dislike about this dialogue was how it diminished the level of devotion Iris had towards Wright as well as diminish Dahlia’s cunning and perceptiveness in manipulating people’s feelings...in the original, Iris said that her sister never told her of her plan because she picked up on her feelings for wright and knowing that she would do anything to stop her regardless of her own life or Dahlia’s subtlety hinting the common determination these twin sisters had for achieving their goals. In that sense, Dahlia still respected her sister for her cunningness too if not for the fact that she was too sentimental.
I shipped... well tbh I was shipping Phoenix with Maya and Miles at the same time haha but I feel like now there's a clear winner in my heart and that's Iris. Idk if she'll ever come back in games or anime but she reaaally should.

I love how the anime expanded on a lot more things compared to the game. Plus, it makes you feel more for Iris (not like I didn't lol). Still weird they never brought her back tbh.
I know having Iris and Phoenix together in the future Ace Attorney games is bad right now, considering the game is all about courthouse battles and investigations. But I wanna see a standalone series with them as the main characters. Like somewhat of a parallel series of Phoenix and Iris going on dates while he's taking a day off.
I don’t think Phoenix likes her back. This is more like a learning experience for Phoenix than a “oh I love you too” statement. Think about it, he just suddenly found out his past was a lie and that the person standing before him is who he was “enamoured with”. I would be shocked too, he needs time to recover and I still think it’s hard for him to ever develop feelings for her as he still thinks of dahlia and still connects iris to her and that would hurt him a lot.
@@satorikis Iris is marrying Larry Butz after Spirit of Justice because Larry Butz received the blessing of catching the newly married couple's flower bouquet. I understand why Phoenix still believes in her because Iris is a good person, she was being herself while dressing up as Dahlia while Dahlia was always pretending to be like Iris for her own advantage. I don't blame Phoenix for getting over that part of his life, I don't think a romantic relationship between them would be any good now even if they do hold some semblance of feelings for one another because they both need to heal from Dahlia's misdeeds in their own ways, Iris seems happy at Hazakura while Phoenix has his job to focus on. They both need time to think about themselves which is something neither of them do to be honest.
As much as I like Iris in this series, I can't say I ship her and Phoenix beyond the murder. It just works better in my eyes as a "learning experience" for Phoenix. As cutesy as they probably were, I don't think it was a healthy relationship considering the way he worshipped her. Kind of felt like he was a tool.
this describes pErfectly what I was gonna say! I feel like it’s a bit too late now for them, and it should be something to build a friendship on or bond more than focusing on being in a romantic one, after what they’ve both been through.
@@alishaanimations3058 yes exactly, also I feel like Phoenix has moved on and as different iris and dahlia are I think it’s still hard for Phoenix to differentiate them and it would traumatise him a lot to date her anyways. It feels more like a learning experience
Exactly, even how they met it was developed through lies and deceit and ended with someone being murdered. Even if they could start over in a romantic relationship….in the end, I don’t think they can since what happened was traumatic enough for them both.
The Fey family is pretty terrible, all things considered. The only good members seemed to get kicked out (Misty, Iris - even Misty isn't exactly the best person but at least she didn't really DO anything) or otherwise be caught up in the drama and scheming of the bad ones (Maya and Pearl) and Mia left of her own accord because the Fey power struggle was something she coming from a mile away and wanted no part of.
I'm as big a fan of the whole gay lawyers thing as the next guy. I mean there is a very homoerotic energy between Phoenix and Edgeworth. It's a fun idea. But I know it is more of a meme than anything. In reality, what I hope is that in the next Ace Attormey we get something showing Nick and Iris are together. Whether the way it was portrayed in the game or in the anime, this scene is just so sweet. She went through so much to try to protect Phoenix cause she cared about him. In return she was subjected to so much pain by Dahlia. Another person Dahlia hurt. I want them to get their pay off to this. Iris deserves to be happy after everything and to be with Phoenix as herself, with no strings attached. She doesn't even have to be a regular member of the cast or out of prison. Just have Nick visitng her in the detention center or something.
