A Gobshite is definitely worse than an Eejit! You can call a child an Eejit but never a Gobshite. I think a Gobshite is what happens when an Eejit comes of age!

K Gall. Used to here my co-workers talking their Irish to the girls walk in by the job ( a new apartment being framed) ...it sound like how's the girls as they walk by this smart ass guy red haired fuckin guy was giving us all stomach pains from laughing are asses off. Every time these girls would flirt and laugh too ...took me a minute to figure it out (he was really saying how's the gash..her pussy") oh and these girl's ain't got a clue...every day at break and lunch. More funny than jackass. . .the fucking red haired guy was from cork , fastest talker shenanigans flowing ..that was San Francisco on Fillmore &haight in 85....I kinda knew back then what he was saying ..but never asked...my mom from Tipperary ...but Cork takes it to another level . If you had the balls to say that to girls in Ire. ,u might get laid every now and then....but you would be getting slapped and fighting the brothers and then the dad ...lol

@grainnemckeown1681
@grainnemckeown1681 9 лет назад
Spailpin (with a fada over the second i -stupid phone ) means a labourer. It could have another meaning if your dad used it this way though...although these 'spailpins' were very much looked down on and mocked.
@danielthompson6207
@danielthompson6207 9 лет назад
Grainne McKeown It was my uncle who had always used it, he said it was a sort of insult reserved for people who were useless beyond simply being a body at work. It is derived from spailpin but I was spelling it out the way he pronounced it

The first Irish Gaelic insult I learned from my Great Aunt in Drumlish was póg mo thóin (or Pogue Mahone) 'Kiss my Arse'. She was so coy and sweet when I asked her to teach me a few Irish insults when I was about 12. When I got back home to England it became quite popular in the school playground after I spread it around. That old cottage was so cold sometimes and there was no TV so we had to make our own entertainment... she also taught me how to wring a chicken's neck.
@dhog41

Yeah, got my education in Irish insults from Father Ted ("arse!" "feck!" "drink!") and my Galway ex...., who used "shite' and 'gobshite" quite liberally. Got me using those words as well. Addictive. Love those words.
