This 78 year old Canadian has loved Cherry Blossoms since my flat coated retriever (my dog, Jet) could pull me on my skates to the convenience store in the winter to get one for a nickle, if my memory serves me. To this very day, if my kids want to please me, this is what they bring for me to enjoy. I do not share it at all, no matter who. This was fun to watch. PS my heritage is Irish on both parents sides. When chocolatier George Ensor and businessman Arthur Ganong would embark on fishing expeditions, they would take chunks of chocolate along in their pockets. However, they found that the chocolate would melt in their pockets and make a mess, so they began wrapping bars of chocolate in cellophane. In 1898, Ganong started selling individually-wrapped chocolate bars,[2] the first company to do so in North America. In 1910, Ganong added nuts to their chocolate bars, and they adopted the name "Pal-o-Mine" in 1920.[3] According to one version of the story, Ganong and Ensor would give the leftover chocolate to local children, and one girl would respond each time by declaring "you’re a pal of mine."[4]

Never heard of it. My snacky snack time was 1970 to '74. In New Brunswick. An Irving gas station near home on the highway (one lane, each direction!, with scattered grey wooden buildings near the road). My older brother bought sports cards there. Kept trying to complete the set. What he didn't know was the owner bought a bunch of cards. One order. Parceled out for the whole season. So they second batch... Well. The store never got any. So he kept buying the same cards. So many duplicates. 1/2 the cards (numbered) never showed up. Chatham New Brunswick. 🇨🇦 1970.

That was a selection of stuff that I remember form the 1960s/1970s. Don't fear offending we Canadians by swearing. Most of us could make a sailor blush. I was once on a trip through Ohio, in the US, with a friend and his girlfriend. I tend to take my social cues from locals, but they were just apologetically themselves. The looks on the faces of the young servers in the Applebee's restaurant, who had previously just been doing Bible trivia questions together, were unforgettable.

My mum is 91 the youngest of six, two of her older siblings are still with us. Pink popcorn was a massive treat if her family were given it or, if by some good fortune, their dad was able to buy a box for the kids to share on the family farm in Port Dover, ON, Canada. (Maybe the pink candy coating causes longevity?!) I still get it for her for her birthday and Christmas. I remember when I was a child, I got 'thrills' out of one of those coin operated spinning candy dispenser machines. This was before I could even read, I just saw them and thought, "Wow! That looks tasty!" So I asked my mom for a 25 cent coin, and I was so disappointed. Nothing could have ruined my day like thrills gum. That being said though, I tried them again as an adult, and they're actually a joy! Goes to show how differently your tastes change with time, as well as when you know what to expect.

Very old Canadian here. You are correct about some of these products being from the 1950's. I hated the pink popcorn as well. It was always stale tasting. Cherry Blossom was produced by a company named Lowney. Thrills chewing gum was always good for refreshing your breath.

The Pal-o-mine is the OG chocolate bar. When I worked at Ganong's on what they call the cooking floor, I would make the fudge center from the original recipe. We would do 3 or 4 batches a week and would often sneak down to the enrobing cooler to grab a hand full of the them before they got coated. Their is nothing like it, they would just melt in your mouth.

Pal O Mine (made by Ganong) were made where I grew up (well, grew older) in St. Stephen, New Brunswick (Canada). Funny the comment of "pot of gold" because Ganong also made a "Pot O' Gold" box of chocolates, which I think you had on the channel before. Happy to see you approved of these snacks. No worries on offending us (with anything in this video). There's also a lot more to Canada than BC, Toronto and Quebec/Montreal
