A hillbilly in South Carolina used to make moonshine in tons of flavors. He also had a dark liquor with a laser printed label. "The Illigitimate Leprechaun" and below it "its whiskey!? Ish? Take a shilleleigh to the skull!" I tried it once. Couldnt tell you how it tasted. I dont even know how i got home.

Some day I'd like to take my wife through Co Cork to Co Kerry, the home of my late Father., (she as Cork ancestry) but all our Irish friends now live in and around Dublin. Irish Whiskey is next on my list to try to get accustomed to. I spent a year trying bourbon (and closely related whiskeys) trying to develop a taste, and it never happened. Then suddenly Scotch, and I can sip it.

Love the story about where getting shit face comes from. In north shore Boston in 1919 there was a hug 2.5 million gallon (8.7 million liters) of molasses spill and had covered a area of 5 miles(8km) square in molasses. Makes you think of the expression, "Being up shites creek without a paddle.

Another possible origin of the phrase 'shit-faced' is that in Edinburgh many years ago, people used to empty their chamber pots by throwing them out of the window of their houses. But this wasn't done at random times, but when the bells of the church would ring. People would then open their windows and shout, “Gaurdy-loo”, and throw the contents out. Locals would know this, and take cover. Tourists would follow the lead of the locals, and also take cover. But drunken tourists would look up on hearing somebody shouting from the window and get a face-full.
